  • On September 4, 2016, Mile Hi Church welcomed the Sikh community into its hearts and into its Sanctuary for an historic first.
Over 1,500 people from Mile Hi Church as well as other faith traditions, took off their shoes and covered their heads in honor of the Sikh tradition.
In less than 3 minutes, Reverend Shannon O'Hurley transformed her platform into a Gurdwara, and gave her pulpit to the message of the Guru. She welcomed Guru Ji (Senchi Form) into her house of worship, and gave it full and complete reverence.
"Imagine that the Christian Bible, or the Torah or the Koran or the Bhagvata Gita, or any sacred text was an actual living being. That Jesus, Budha, Krishna, Lao Tzu, or any of the great masters was actually going to come into the Sanctuary. This is the level of importance and reverence that the holy scriptures, the Guru Granth Sahib Ji is for the Sikhs. As such, very special preparations are made for the arrival of the Guru Ji.” -Rev. Shannon O'Hurley
When asked why she took such a bold step, Reverend O'Hurley replied “It’s time. Sikhism is a beautiful religion. It’s a faith that honors all people, that celebrates Oneness, and that is dedicated to service. We all have much to learn from our Sikh brothers and sisters."
Hundreds of members of the Sikh community gathered and felt the significance of this historic first. Said Naureen Singh, founder of the Sikh Association at University of Colorado said, “Everyone was so incredibly inquisitive and genuinely interested in learning about the Sikh faith, something I have frankly never seen growing up here in America. This was truly, especially for me, an unforgettable moment with feeling connected to both my Sikh faith and the community here in Colorado.”

In a world of class division and religious war, Rev. O'Hurley and others are doing a great service to everyone witnessing this; it promotes understanding and unity in a warm, respectful - and even fun - way :)
Even as an pragmatic atheist (of Sikh & Christian upbringing), I'd congratulate the Reverend, the Mile Hi Church community, and the corresponding Sikh Temple community. Well done all!
I hope the Church community get to experience a real Sikh Temple service (and especially the fun langar!) too...
Hopefully, this will promote secular (universal) values too :)

This is beautiful. instead of 2 religions fighting, over here both the religions are collaborating and praying to the only one, that is God.

Even being able to recognize the divinity and beauty of the message in another faith is a blessed gift. All that theres missing out there is more information to be spread about Sikhi. Thanks for doing this Shannon O' Hurley. I see it as God is working through you to unite people.
This event is something historic indeed.

This was a history making interfaith event made possible by some. Though it was achieved with lots of hurdles from close minded individuals who consider themselves the guardians of religion, it was well received by all. I personally think it was a grand success considering that this was an interfaith event & the presentation was short, sweet and to the point.

Please correct me,there might have been a good reason why a projector with English translation was not available.
That would have been really good.I hope in your future similar services a projector can be made available. So that the non Punjabi congregation can understand what is being read from the scriptures.

      Hi Gary,
Great question! Although it can't be seen in the video, there were two projectors on the side of the stage that displayed the english translations so all can understand what was going on.
      Hope this helps!

The Guru Granth Sahib opens with the basic concept of the One Universal, supreme Energy called by so many different names across humanity,.
Ik oankar - One absolute being (God)
Satnam - Eternal truth it's name
    Karta Purkh - Creator
    Nirbau - without fear
    Nirvair - without hate/ enmity
    Akal Murat - Deathless/timeless image
Ajuni - Beyound birth and death
    Saibang - self existant
Gurprasad - known by the Guru's Grace.
This is repeated numerous times and at the start of every section as a constant reminder.
In the words of the tenth Sikh Guru - Guru Gobind Singh "recognise the human race as ONE"

Instead of bringing the Sikhs into a Christian Church, why didn't you just take all the Christians to a Gurdwara??...

    • @NaureenSingh
      @NaureenSingh 6 лет назад +4

      Aman,
I am unsure why you are commenting so much on this video considering you don't have all the background information. Regardless, I will answer your comments here. This isn't a "Christian Church" as you keep saying-- but rather, it is new thought. And since I am going to guess you didn't watch the video completely in it's entirety, this is about showing the Sikh faith. This isn't about who is involved, but more about what it is about.
Also, FYI-- the members of this church did visit a Sikh Gurudwara before this event.

Mile Hi Church is a spiritual community that draws from multiple faith traditions, including Christianity, but also incorporates teachings from other religions and spiritual practices. The church is affiliated with the New Thought movement, which emphasizes the power of positive thinking and personal transformation through spiritual practices. While the church incorporates Christian teachings and celebrates Christmas and Easter, it does not require adherence to a specific Christian doctrine or belief system. Instead, it encourages individuals to explore and cultivate their own spiritual paths.

Dear friends, I hope no body is offended by this step. It's not about conversions. Please withdraw yourself from making such comments. If a Christian brother thinks that he is offended, I apologise for same. I hope management of church would take your concerns in their notice. Being a Sikh, I respect your belief system. If my christian brother or sister feel offended, I request management of church and sikh to stop organising kirtan here. Please it's my personal opinion, not to offend anyone

All of these reasons cleanliness etc etc is all just made up from human imagination... eg that "whisk" is actually originally a fly swat....
