- After inducting RUSH into the Hall of Fame, members of the Foo Fighters performed a near-perfect cover of 2112's "Overture" complete with white spandex outfits and wigs. Then Rush took the stage and performed "Tom Sawyer" & "Spirit of the Radio".

Hall of fame my ass! Rush should have a planet named after them!
John Strange fuck that.... an entire GALAXY
SwiNgMaN 31 fuck yeah !!!!!
Planets don't exist, and nor does space. That's why Rush has nothing in the sky named for them.
Oh ya they should!!
@@seanpatrick7019 Are you a liberal because I can't see anyone else saying something so stupid.
One of the greatest bands of all time. With Neal being the greatest drummer of all time.
Blah blah blah 🤣
Alex Lifeson is probably the most underrated guitar player in the history of time.
.... and "underrated" comments are so overrated.
RIP Neil Peart. Condolences to his family, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson.
Neil was simply the Best Ever! RIP Neil
So glad he was here when inducted :)
Alex is the antithesis of Neil, and Geddy is the glue that fills the void.
Brilliant!
So true, R.I.P.
Yeah I was thinking that too. He was basically saying “it doesn’t matter what I say” and “what can I say that hasn’t already been said by Neil?” and then a big middle finger to the rock n roll hall of lame for waiting so long. That was my take, anyway. It was hilarious.
@@neli250 you gotta have levity when you got Neil around. It would be dead space without it!
Great explanation of the band! It was such a unique and amazing group, no wonder they produced brilliant songs and albums.
The beauty of Alex's speech brought a tear to my eye :')
Blah blah blah, Blah blah blah blah!!! ;')-
He loves to act.
The cheeky prick hahaha

Yeah, then it got old rather quick.
Neil's smile at @25:40, after the line "glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity" being played to an establishment that ignored them for so long, in great part because they didn't compromise.
They got the glittering prize, but they did it their way, and there's no question as to their integrity. And Neil knew it.
R.I.P. to an exceptional human being whose words will no doubt be insightful for years to come.
This comment deserves a standing ovation!
you are definitely a Rush geek lol, perfect, we read between the lines
I've never seen Neil smile while playing so that warmed my heart
I just rewatched this and hadn't noticed that grin before. It hit me like a ton of bricks this time. Glad others noticed it too.

I think Alex's speech was the most beautiful thing I've ever witnessed
Yes; & George Harrison's for the Beatles;)
I had never felt like applauding my computer screen before...
You just never appreciate how good something is until its gone.
Absolutely! I’ve lived in Toronto for 55 years and have seen dozens of great acts as they come through the city. I have never seen Rush. I always thought, “I’ll catch them next time.” How wrong I was .......
I'm so happy I appreciated them from the second I heard them for the very first time, in Venezuela, 1980, the year they released Permanent Waves, till today, in Canada. I saw them live in Edmonton reinforcing that decision to listen to this very different style of Rock. While I will admit that after Signals their sound was different than their first works, it was always pleasant going back to their first 8 albums and giving myself a treat each time I needed.
Some deaths hurt more than others.
If you're a Rush fan, and particularly a Canadian Rush fan... and particularly particularly a Toronto Rush fan... Losing Neil Peart feels like losing a part of yourself. Rest in peace, Professor. Your work will continue to teach future drummers and lyricists for generations to come.
Perfect Eleven I’m not Canadian and I feel that way. I can only imagine how it feels for you guys, Toronto people who these guys feel like a brother to you. It ripped my heart out. RIP Neil
Especially after Clockwork Angels, maybe their masterpiece, and the best way to end up a recording career!
First time I saw them live I was 14, way back in November 1974. Been the sound track of my life. Although the May 2-4 long weekend was last week this year, today is May 24th, and it's a beautiful sunny day at Lakeside Park in St. Kitts, to raise a cold one to Neil. (The Canucks will know what I mean).
Well said.
Man its already been a year. It still makes me tear up. Rip the professor
I just noticed this: Neil talks about family, "those who remain, and those who are gone." True Rush fans will know what he means.
+Rob H. his speech was superb, the bit about each band being but a point of light in night sky..
+Rob H. very insightful yes we do .. love you for that
+Rob H. Those who are gone are his wife and his daughter........
+ken mayfield
Not his legal wife but a life partner and yes, you are correct. He lost his daughter to a vehicle accident on her way to college and then his beloved less than a year later to cancer and what he described as her 'just giving up'.
So he traveled on a bike for quite a while.
I saw your comment and it inspired me to embellish that , after reading the excerpt from his book
I saw Rush play at my high school when I was 17. I'm 60 now and they're still going strong. Absolutely amazing.
Was that in Cleveland? Or somewhere in Canada? Before Neil joined the band right? Lucky.
43 years?
long time
Oh man that's so great
They played in my high school in Scarborough in the cafeteria on the lunch tables put together as a stage in '73 when I was 15. It cost me $1.25 to get in.
@@KungFuBlitzKrieg In Toronto. John Rutsey was the drummer.
And from Toronto...
The crown reaction says it all.
Best rock trio ever and it’s not even close. Rush forever.
Ok, that was the most awesome Rock Hall of Fame induction ever.
Never been a fan of Foo Fighter's music, but man Dave is a GREAT fucking dude. When he started listing off Rush's albums I got so hyped... so did everyone sitting in that audience.
I loved the Foo's first two albums; since then they've been kinda hit or miss. But I saw them at House of Blues in Orlando in the spring of 2001 or so, and they played Cygnus X-1 Part 1, to the complete confusion of basically everyone in the audience except me. They're real Rush fans.
+SoaringMuse I think you would enjoy Foo Fighters VH1 Storytellers. Dave tells funny and cool stories :)
Jim Rasch Haha cool I'll look it up when I get home
+Ian Schmidt
amazing story man. Would have loved to be there.
+SoaringMuse ...He's 100 percent true rocker, that guy. Complete different personality when he was the drummer for......you all know who.......
Three guys. Three legends. One of the best induction performances ever.
"Those who remain and those who are gone..."
Damn...
That hurts, especially with him now joining those who are gone... 😔💔
I love how even though Alex is just saying "Blah" you can understand what he's saying.
Human R2D2
In a most polite Canadian he told the RRHOF to go Fuck itself.
Yup. A big🖕. Very well played. He's always been clever though. I would kill to have drinks with that dude!
I'm positive Alex's speech will go down in history as the most ICONIC RRHOF speech ever given!
That was a little weird. But so what, his talent trumps all weirdness.
Honestly, Alex's speech sums up the whole thing. They never really cared if they were inducted in the hall or not; it wasn't ever really a priority for them, they just wanted to make great music. Plus, it's completely in character for Alex and anyone who actually follows the band knows this. All of them gave speeches that fit them exactly: Neil was intellectual and charming, Geddy was short and sweet and Alex was a clow. It all fit for the band perfectly and exactly.
Jesse Well America did put them on the map. They had a tremendous run playing bars in Toronto and releasing their debut album, but they didn’t break out until Cleveland picked up Working Man and they got signed to an American record deal. It ain’t a competition between America and Canada. We all get to experience the music.

Thank God these guys came from an era in which they didn't waste their time trying to sell us $1000 sneakers or music streaming. I hope I can get my kids to like their music.
Fuck, Dave blew me away when he listed those albums in chronological order so quickly O.o
He's as devoted as any of Rush's fans, of course he has them memorised!
He is a huge Rush fan but maybe the speeches were on autocue also?
mrmercutio224
No, there was no autocue used there. Mind you, Geddy uses autocue to remember his lyrics.
Most elder statesmen of rock now do. I do think that with Dave and Taylor use autocue because their eye line is straight to camera, except for the crowd pleasing bits. No problem with either using it, it was fantastic from all concerned.

I love how everyone knew to kick in with the applause after concert hall.
Yup, Rush has somehow made that a part of the song.
Rush was my brother's favorite band, he idolized them,, and foolishly I always thought it was because we shared the same last name as Neil. Sadly my bro passed away a couple of years ago from a horrible disease caused by a life of hard living at 47. To honor him i took a serious interest in Rush(I was all about punk and rockabilly) and have gained a deep respect for them as musicians, hard workers, consummate professionals and creative intellectuals (how did I not know of their interest in Ayn Rand!?). I'm just.sad I didn't get to bond with my brother through Rush and he didn't get to see this moment in time, at least not on this earth.
Adam Peart to be honest, your brother is looking down and smiling ear to ear. He's always with you and jamming along with you. In other news, it's never too late to become a Rush fan. Neil (along with Bonham) was my inspiration to pick up a pair of sticks/mallets. I've been into them heavily since the Signals album (when I was 7 and old enough to slightly understand the true sorcery that is Rush). From the first notes of the first album (with the late great John Rutsey behind the kit) to their (unfortunately) last album Clockwork Angels, they have never disappointed. Sure, they went thru their synth heavy phase and I will admit, nor completely my favorite era...I still loved and respected every note transmitted thru even the crappiest set of speakers or headphones. I've passed the torch to my now 12 year old son and he ADORES them. Getting back to my point, your brother is right there with you rocking out to La Villa Strangiato and he's loving every minute of it.
Watching this after the passing of Neil peart. Maybe now your bro and Neil are jamming out in the afterlife now 🙏

RUSH IS THE GREATEST MUSICAL ACT TO EVER COME OUT OF CANADA!
Say what you will about Alex Lifesons Blah, Blah speech but I bet every person around the world who doesn't speak English knew exactly what he was saying.
Rewatching this gem after just hearing of the passing of Neil. Death of a legend 💔
"We are only immortal for a limited time." While that may be true, I doubt very deeply he gave much of a thought of the longevity of the memory of his existence will linger on these spheres.
A weird thing happened to me this past week - I’m currently going through some tough times (not sure what the future holds); I posted up those very words you did...immediately upon hearing about Neil yesterday, I went back to my FB page...
...turned out my post was on Monday...the day before we lost Neil...
when he mentions what bob dylan said about arts highest purpose being to inspire... wow, to think of the hundreds of times their music has inspired me. thank you rush
Now That's A Great Comment !!!! Thank You.
Alex Lifeson's speech put me in tears
Tearing up watching this right now. Neil was such a brilliant man. Rest in peace sir.
A real class act, they didn't break up and there was no drama and the performed great.
Two thoughts occur:
1) Some of these hall of fame inductions are such abject failures or so very filled with tension and people refusing to play that they absolutely suck. This may be the very best, most flawless induction ever.
2) Dave Grohl should have a talk show.
John Westcott 3 talk shows*
Flawless? Dave doesn't know how to pronounce "Peart" correctly.
@@CrociatoAzzurro Taylor was the one who kept mispronouncing Neil's name, not Dave.

If there's ever been a better acceptance speech, I'd like to see it. And it breaks my heart to know that we'll never see that again. Who in the world could replace Neil?...............nobody.
The acceptance speech only adds to Geddy’s loving description of his band mates, “just a bunch of goofballs”. They took their music very seriously but never themselves. Refreshing!
So true, and when I thought I had seen the depth of Neil’s talent I read his books Masked Rider and Ghost Rider and found so much more to appreciate...Neil will live forever in my heart!

Are you joking or what? Nirvana, Green Day? I think NOT! Nice try, but no, not even close by a long shot.
Green day and nirvana are not close to Rush, they're way higher on the scale.

After losing the "professor" we have to come back and watch the good memories. I'm only 30 and they're easily my favorite band. He was my father's idol and one of mine as well. Hes a legend. And he will be missed!
Truly one of the most heart warming (Neil) and funniest speeches (Alex) you`ll hear. It took me till I was in my 40s to understand this band. Their music is so deep and rich that it may take a music lover a while to truly appreciate their greatness. The beauty of Rush is that they have continued to grow as a band for over 40 years. Not many bands last this long and if they do, their creative juices dry up after 15-20 years. Not Rush... these guys just kept growing and getting better. Long live Rush!
Ernest Buckley, I get it man! I didn’t used to like Rush, and here I am at 35 just starting to ‘get’ them. It’s going to be a fun ride discovering all of their albums.
In Grade 8 my friend Greg said something like "hey, my brother can't come to this concert and I have his ticket. You wanna go?". I went. It was 1978 and "A Farewell to Kings" tour. Saw them four times from '78 - 85 and have been a life long fan. Hats off to those frost bitten Canadian boys.
Damn. Lucky bastard.
In 1976 I was walking down the hallway of my high school in Rochester Minnesota...I passed a small envelope on the floor, and for a brief moment thought nothing of it. But curiosity got the better of me and I doubled back to it. Low & behold it was 2 tickets to the 2112 tour up in St. Paul!! If memory serves me right(?) I believe the opening act (Starcastle??) couldn't make the trip from Chicago, so they offered a refund over the intercom. We walked out to the ticket window, got our $7.50 "back" and walked right back into the show. I was PAID to see Rush....LOL
Almost 10 years later, and this is STILL my favorite induction!! I’m not just saying that because these guys are a huge piece of my musical backbone, I’m saying it because IT. JUST. IS.
Sincerely heartfelt, hilarious, and brilliant just like these lads. I feel blessed to have witnessed them live only just once in my life and with my best friend who’s equally a big fan. It was my Wayne’s World experience with her with what seemed like all the luck in the world on our side that night in April 2020 in Louisville, KY.
@Brandi the Butcher check out the Led Zeppelin induction. That was epic
Definitely. They were (and still are) such a class act. Each one's speech fit them appropriately and was absolutely perfect. There'll NEVER be another band like them, for 1000 reasons. When our creator made them, he threw away the mold. ## BestBand Ever
I love that the two songs they played were "Tom Sawyer" and "Spirit of Radio". One is a statement of who they are, independent thinkers walking outside of the status quo in the music industry, and the other a rebuke of the music industry for the compromises musicians are forced to make at the expense of the musical soul. So perfect! Thank you Geddy, Neil and Alex for the life-long act of being good people and sharing your profound gifts of music and joyful living with us. Without your music and your being, my life would not have been nearly so rich or imaginative or rewarding. You have my undying gratitude.

If you break down Lifeson's speech, it really is quite genius. Through all the "blahs", he talks about how Rush played around the world, recording and selling millions of albums, to have the HoF say that they're not good enough for years, to which he replies "Oh? Fuck you!" Then, one day, after more years of more playing, recording, touring, the phone rings, telling him that they've finally been inducted. So he gets dressed up nice and, with everyone expecting a formal, color-by-numbers acceptance speech, forgetting that they had been cast aside for the better part of two decades, he decides to do the opposite. So finally, to the Hall, Pratt, Dirk and you, the fans, Lerxst says 'Thank you!'
that was one of the most Brilliant speeches ive ever seen.

It took WAY too long for them to be inducted! Cheers to Dave and Taylor for one of the best if not THE best HoF induction speeches ever.
I was a fan of Rush in the 80s , saw them in Philly in '84. Got a best of double cd.
I say watched the R40 and clockwork Angels tours on you tube . And I recall hearing about the personal loss of his daughter and common law wife within 10 months and his self imposed exile on his 55,000 mike journey.
So I read a sample excerpt from his Ghost Rider book..
This isn't just some rock and roll guy writing a memoir, this is a brilliant writer of Rush's awesome music, taking us on his journey and how he came back from what would have someone else (like Keith Emerson) end their life.
The book is now on the top of my wish list.
And I'm even moreinto Rush's music. The live experience has gotten more state of the art than ever. I'm not a musician, but I create visually and the ideal job for me would be part of the team that designs and produces the live design of concerts like theirs.
And as Alex said on his great acceptance speech, Blah blah blah blah-- you get the idea!
We've been missing Rush since their last tour and now we sadly say a more permanent farewell to the great Neil Peart. Thanks for the wonderful performances, percussion, passion and lyrics!
