That sexy commercial aired in 1968. I saw it in 1968, and it has stayed in my head ever since.

Royal Crown was always something of an also-ran in the cola wars, but it was far more popular then, to be sure. RC's diet entry, Diet Rite, was a formidable challenger to the offerings of the other two major soft drink companies, Diet Pepsi and Tab (Coke's entry, long before Diet Coke arrived). Diet Rite had a 5-year head start in the market over the other two, which probably contributed to its success, with sales that occasionally surpassed Tab and Diet Pepsi.

A catchy tune that's emblematic of the "Swingin' Sixties."
1960s television commercials were fun. Popular music was often used in advertising. Herb Alpert's "Mexican Shuffle" was theme music for Clark's Teaberry Gum (remember the "Teaberry Shuffle"?). " No Matter What Shape" by the T-Bones was theme music for Alka-Seltzer commercials. The Brass Ring's "The Dis-Advantages of You" was theme music for Benson & Hedges cigarette commercials.
    The nostalgia is killing me!

I love these 1960's retro commercials! Nancy Sinatra was hot in her day and she's got some great cat moves on stage. This commercial jingle has got a hip beat to it....RC Cola is very good! Shake the cola drag! It's a mad mad mad mad cola!!

I was so intrigued when I saw this ad the first time, years ago, with that BIG champagne glass full of cola on ice, that I drank it that way for some time after. It was quite decadent (oh but I used Coke® and not Royal Crown®, don't tell...)

My local Walmart has RC Cola so I do buy it once in awhile, as a 'treat.' It's become a cult food item, like Booberry cereal.

Yes - I saw both of these when they were first shown on TV in the ‘60s, and remember them both, and now that you mention it, they DO have a certain resemblance.

My favorite has always been RC Cola! It tastes better than Pepsi or Coke. I only allow myself though, as a treat, every once in a while.

I picked up a 12-pack at the Fred Meyer in Lynnwood Wa three days ago. They've gone from a very modern, almost "EXTREME" can style to a retro, 70s style. Even reviving the slogan "Me and My RC". I only wish they'd gone the whole nine yards and given the cans real pull tabs.
*I'm sure they didn't because it's one stupid kid swallowing it, and they're up to their eyeballs in lawsuits.

lol - I remember this from when I was about eight years old. I didn't know what "mad" meant other than angry. Kept thinking - why's that cola mad?

This is definitely the music and lyrics I remember for RC Cola, but I think that it was an outside group dancing commercial with Raquel Welch. I was a little kid in Chicago at the time. Must have been before she became famous.

If you are going to be a shill, it's best to sell out in style as she did here. I think it's fine as long as the endorsement is genuine. Too bad RC hasn't been able to match Coke or Pepsi in the modern market.
