In this video, I build a dog gate/baby gate at the entrance to a hallway. This will help separate the dogs when needed, mostly during meals. It has a latch with a secret button that the dogs are unable to open. The style of the gate matches the large barn doors on my workshop. Enjoy!

Great video. You always have great content. Three thoughts. 1. Beams run horizontally, posts are vertical. Posts around a door opening are jambs. 2. A wider door jamb could have accommodated a traditional stop molding to keep the door from pushing in (curious to see how the stops on the caps hold up). 3. Mounting the door to swing in to the hallway would allow it to stay open against the wall and be out of the way. It may still be possible to rotate the whole assembly if the current setup proves awkward. Again, thanks for great content. Keep it coming.
Your dogs are just short kids. They always love being where ever you are. They want to play all of the time just like you said. I enjoy watching your videos. Be safe, Stay well and Keep smiling.
Always love seeing the pups "help" :)
I used some of those lag screws on my new workbench - I got the idea from your workbench video, they work great, thanks for sharing!
Right on!
This is great, and looks beautiful. I'm researching making something like this but for outside. As a last resort, if one of the mutts makes his great escape out the front door. lol
I got recommended the work table video yesterday(Saturday) morning... it's now Sunday evening and I've watched 50 of your videos... I love the functional stuff you make aswell as making everything look clean. Plus the consistent quality and hard work you put in :)
Wow!! Now that’s a marathon! Thanks!
This is great timing. I was literally looking online how to build one but none of them this good thanks. Keep up the awesome content
same here! this was just what I needed!! thanks for sharing it definitely helped me... my friend ✌️
even though i dont have any animals, i still watch your videos because i support what you do! keep up the great work!
Really love what you have done! I would need such a door in my flat, but we don't have the right idea, yet. Keep on wood-working!
The gate is beautiful. I like James' comments below, with info from you two, I have a great direction for my dog gate. Side note: I've got 3 Dutch/German Shepherd "puppies" (10 months old, yet the male is 100 lbs-ish) and they "help" me, too. They are insanely helpful. LOL Thanks for sharing the build and pup moments!
Thank you for the relaxing videos. Love the dogs, boy the puppy is getting big fast.
Hansel just reached 40 lbs! Though not sure how much more he will grow
Looks great! My parents used a permanent baby gate at the top of the stairs for my nephew and made it so it would hang up against the wall and out of the way when they didn't need it. It's pretty version of that!
I love your corgi!! He reminds me so much of my corgi, Butterball 💕.
Nice Work, looks great! Best regards from Bavaria
I just stumbled across this video looking for ideas and BAM, this is the one! Great video, you just earned yourself a new subscriber! 👏
nice ben
try putting thin soft side velcro on the black tip of the latch to keep it from rattling in the closed position
Great work!!! I love your "technical difficulties" 👏👍❤😁😁
Did you just use door hinges? Great build
That looks really nice! Your customized cuts on the caps are stellar!
Also: Corgi butt!! 😁
Great work as usual!
Great video! I would have it open into the hallway so it would not be in the way when open but whatever works! Cute dogs 🐶
Thoughts about this video:
Fabulous gate!
Adorable pets!
A man with a vacuum in his hands...hubba, hubba!
Trader Joe's should sponsor you!!!
Clean work🔥👍
Haven't seen your cat for so long 0:35 finally here.
I just thought the same thing a few days back and was wondering if it might have died 😂 Glad it's still around lol...
13:38 If I fits, I sits
I think it looks great. Not knowing much about animals do you think they would have liked to be able to still see each other?
Maybe door stop instead of thigh stabbers but thanks, it's inspired me to make one for a relative.
Your dogs are amazing!!!! My staffie cross loves to shred cardboard, sticks, cardboard, garden gloves, tennis balls etc!!!! Belated Happy Thanksgiving to your family, Ben.
Really good idea...
Love your dogs 🐕 the door is great also
Excellent work congratulations.
That’s a beautiful gate!!!!!
Hi Ben, Found you channel recently and am enjoying your innovative ideas. Just a glue up tip: Look up cross grain glue ups and possible problems. I get this is a gate and not a piece of fine furniture but always good to for cross grain gluing.
Interesting build I like the idea!
Isn’t the stopblock on the RHS a massive snag hazard though? First time you catch your hip on it you’re gonna be mad.
Also, it opens outwards into another corridor blocking that one entirely?
Why not build it against the internal wall so that it can be latched open and out of the way?
Thanks 🙏
It’s a beautiful door
Nice work. I would have put the stop at the bottom just for ascetics and made it a little tighter so it does rattle when the dogs jump on it.
Beautiful
Yeah...look forward to these videos!
I love this!! Thanks for sharing!
Good job ben
Wow your very talented that is exactly what I need and want to learn to make
Love it....wonderful video. 👍👍👏👏👏👌👌
Boss lady seems very happy.
Love the video's. This would come in great for our 2 pups. Why didn't you set it up to swing in to the hallway? That way you could leave it open and it would be out of the way
Nice job, looks awesome!
Amazing job! Very well done.
Great work! I bet that the caramel dog will learn to jump that in no time by watching the cat. 😂 I had a little dog that would jump super high fences no matter what my father instaled to keep her in her yard. He is a physicist with lots of engineering experience but she would win everytime. He had a lot of tecnical difficulties with her. 🤣🤣🤣 he even make a yt video of her jumping the fence
Haha he definitely wants to jump it but it’s too high for him. Though not a problem for the cat!
Thank you so much for the vid! Great content!!!!
Was searching for a nice-looking indoor gate that has a barn-style look. This is perfect! Would you mind sharing where you purchased the hardware for this project?
Don’t know if your cat goes outside, but ever think about a catio (I think that’s what they are called)? You could probably make it in a weekend with your skills. Thanks for the videos!!
Thanks!!! This is awesome!
Can you tell us where you got the Latch??
Great idea!
I'm currently battling my two doxies while I rip up the flooring and trim in the house. They need to be separated at times lol. I have been thinking about making a gate for my elevated deck. I need to find a way to make it out of composite railing so it matches...throw ideas at me!
Another reason to sand down the corners, "break the corners," is to protect the finish over time. If the corners are sharp when the finish/paint is put on, over time the corners will break off and the wood will peek through and ruin the finish. Softening the corners will end up strengthening/protecting the corners from wearing down as easily.
Didn’t know that but it makes sense. Thanks!
Nice gate, but use a push stick! I had a close call with the table saw myself.
It should swing inward toward the wall so when you want to not use it you can put it up against the wall.
Congratulations. Excepcional job. Thanks for share.
Does this also work on small children? Asking for a friend.
Just great! I love da puppies
Can you provide info in where you got the gate latch?
No leveling since you pre attached it to the post?
My corgi would jump over that. 2 days after he was neutered he jumped over a 4 ft fence so he could play with our other dog.
same our corgi leaped over our fence because my wife was gardening in the back. Didnt think he could jump that high.
Love your videos
Hi, can you put the link for the gate latch on please 😀
Coolest YT dogs ever.
Great job!
Do you have plans for this? I’d love to make one
Where is the pinball machine?
Out of curiosity, why did you choose to have it swing out?? Wouldn’t it have been a little more efficient having it swing in so just could potentially leave it open,
We contemplated all four options for swing side and direction. This made the most sense with the look and function for our place
cute dogs
How does the cat get through the gate?
We literally built one of these for our dogs last month lol. How about the pinball machine? It still happenin
That's one sturdy door. Love the technical difficulties.
Ben: Say you're sorry
Pups: we regret nothing.
I like those secret gate latches, but I’m wondering why you went out of your way to use them specifically? You said “it took me a while to find one in this color” - why not just use a simpler latch?
I'm a new subscriber just asking if you after you finish your workshop are you going to do a workshop tour?
love your content keep on doing what you're doing :)
Do you have a supply list?
they are so big
Can you tell me where you found the latch?
Damn that things awesome!
Where did you get that secret latch in black? Can’t find anywhere
love it
Grest one.
Hey can i ask...do you know thr color of the kitchen cabinets we see at the end? The grey?
They are from ikea so whatever ikea’s grey color is (I think they only have one grey option). There’s a better look at them in this video: ruclips.net/video/_EaXOrx7TyQ/видео.html
Thank you. Great videos.
I think I would have made that door to open the opposite way around, into the hallway
Agreed. And I might have rigged it to latch in the open position as well
What lag screws did you use? I’m thinking of a project that I may want to go with those on.
Ben did you build the table in the kitchen?? That looks like it needs a video :)
Awesome videos sorry I’m sooo late
How do we get the plans for your builds
That dog won’t need that fence. He needs a door. To smart🤣😂
And still chopping wood on the floor! 😕 Next project - Mitre saw bench. 👍 😎
What breed is your black dog? My girl Maybe looks just like him, only shorter body! ❤️
Yay... more “technical difficulties “ lol
And the cat is like what did I do in my life to deserve this?
Yes... Epic!
Can u please provide a link to the latch hardware you used for this gate?
www.tmhardware.com/rockwood-secret-gate-latch.html
There’s a few color options. I chose model US10BE, oil-rubbed bronze equivalent
@@BenTardif Thank you!!
What are those clamps called?
They are H-Style pipe clamps
Where do you live like in what country
usa
What do you mean "if I go slow I don't need a guide"?! I always manage to mess up :/
Nice job. I will be tackling this soon. Any chance you could post a link to the lock? I cannot find it anywhere. Thanks
Did you get the link? I need one too.
9:55 aaaaaaaaa It's beautiful tHanK yUo does not sound happy lol
My thoughts exactly! Can't make that woman happy, easily.
