    Thanks for the excellent video. Rsd15, sd38 and u33c high nose, it doesnt get much better than that for a rail fan.

      @@fmnut the opposed piston fm prime mover is legendary. Used to lull me to sleep as a boy growing up along the Ohio river listening to towboats pushing loaded barges up river at night. I remember delivering groceries midstream in my high school years with what was basically a floating truck. After tying our delivery boat onto the towboat, we would come aboard as the boat was under power . The 12 cylinder model I remember was a very long and tall engine. To hear it under full throttle, was amazing, although it wasnt a struggle with two of these "trainmaster" diesels hooked up to each of their separate propellers through reduction gears. From what I understand, there are still great lakes ore ships that still use the O.P. , although I am not familiar with them other than a book that I have. I later went onto work as a deckhand for one of the barge lines I used to deliver groceries to. Our mechanic said that the o.p. FM engine was the best type of engine he ever worked on. He preferred them over EMD, Alco, GE, etc. I know there were some towboats powered by Baldwins, but that was a bit before my time. I'm sure the 608SC engine was a torque monster being essentially a "Centipede" locomotive on water!

    Man, whenever I saw a stray Squaw Creek railcar somewhere on the high iron I always had to wonder "what was that operation like?" So very hard to find footage of them in their day, so thank you for this unique glimpse! Such an incredible roster, classic GE, ALCo, EMD, and even Fairbanks-Morse with high hoods. Underrated, that's for sure!

    Another excellent video Fmnut.That FM switcher near the end of the video was cool with nice sounding horn and prime mover , and those Yankeetown EMD's were a wonderful sight to see. I also thought the Squaw Creek U-boats looked good as well. I love this older footage , thank you very much ! 😁👍

    I've heard of Squaw Creek RR a gazillion years ago but, never researched it. I always assumed they were a relic from railroading past that probably fizzled out in the 50's or 60's. Was I ever wrong and, they even have my beloved SD38.

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  Год назад

      Actually the SD38s were Yankeetown Dock, not Squaw Creek. This line is still active operated by Respondek Rail as Squaw Creek Southern.

    Squaw Creek rebuilt the former Southern U33C in the 90s and gave it a chop nose. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of photos or videos of that locomotive after the rebuild.

    Where is Squaw creek coal located?

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  2 года назад

      Southern Indiana, near Evansville. Yankeetown loaded coal in barges for river shipment. Squaw Creek took coal to a power plant that supplied an aluminium refinery. Both were partially owned by Peabody Coal, using coal from their Lynnville mine.
