It's a damn dirty shame that the Beatles couldn't have stayed together longer, because Mr. Preston would have made a fantastic permanent addition to them. Bless his name.
Great work. I love that Preston used the same weird 4th and 5th voicings that the Beatles used in their harmonies in In My Life, Don't Want to Spoil the Party and all those
When you watch what they were doing before, it really does feel a lot less emotional in a way. My father had told me for years Billy Preston was an honorary Beatle but until the docu series came out I had no idea. Biggest role is hard to say, undeniably a phenomenal piano player, and maybe the best organ player in recent history. Changed the entire vibe of the album, only for the better, it would be so strange without him.
Incredibly beautiful playing by Billy Preston. No other musician ever fit in so perfectly with the Beatles than he did. I feel lucky that I once saw him playing live with his band years ago. He is one of my ultimate keyboard idols.
This is very eye-opening. I never realized how many whole notes there were in this part. As musicians were often tempted to just play constantly all the time throughout the song. Nice to know playing this reserved still works.
People give me shit for calling Preston one of the greatest of all time but look at parts like this. His spectrum of play style is fantastic. Go look at the kids and me, the big song on there “Nothing from nothing” get absolutely decimated by “Struttin”. Truly a genius
0:32 - Never caught this before, but this sounds exactly like the chorus or refrain from John Lennon’s “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” from Double Fantasy
Yeah Lennon was heavily influenced by asian music, probably because of Yoko, and he used the pentatonic scale to catch that as they are commonly used in some asian cultures. I guess he sort of found his own kind of melodies in that scale :)
Most artist's music would suffer when broken down into its component parts (isolated vocals, isolated bass, etc). But the Beatles come off as even greater geniuses than we first thought. Even the people who guest on their recordings (this one with Billy Preston on Rhodes, Eric Clapton;s guitar solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, George Martin's baroque piano on In My Life, etc) seem to rise to a whole other level in their creativity. It's like it rubs off on them
Dude thanks so much for putting this up and having the ability to slow it down I've been able to learn up to the 30 seconds of the song. But that was still 30 seconds I didn't know last week and wouldn't have know since there isn't any good tutorials on how to really play a certain part of this song
Don't let me down, don't let me down Don't let me down, don't let me down Nobody ever loved me like she does Oh, she does, yeah, she does And if somebody loved me like she do me Oh, she do me, yes, she does Don't let me down, don't let me down Don't let me down, don't let me down I'm in love for the first time Don't you know it's gonna last It's a love that lasts forever It's a love that had no past Don't let me down, don't let me down Don't let me down, don't let me down And from the first time that she really done me Oh, she done me, she done me good I guess nobody ever really done me Oh, she done me, she done me good Don't let me down, don't let me down Don't let me down
I’ve learnt every instrument for this song left this to last because I thought it would be the hardest to learn as I’m not a natural piano player but got it a lot quicker than thought. Thx for this helped heaps
So great to see that. I can only read music or try to follow along with your hands, but it's hard for me. I saw a Billy Preston concert in the 70's (not with the Beatles though, unfortunately!). Even their "Beatles Recorded Keyboard Book" is nowhere near your transcription. So awesome (although you could use a better Rhodes sounding keyboard -- sorry!).
Guys stop asking for transcriptions, chords, sheet music, tutorials, etc,... They have the internet on computers now. You can download the 'Guitar tab' app for less than $3.00. The sheet music for the rhodes is available right there.
Great video. I'd love to know what settings to make to achieve this electric piano sound in a plugin. Most electric pianos sound brutal but your settings are excellent.
Nice that you stripped the Nord. Reminds me of John Lennon who stripped its Epiphone. Looks much better than the original red colour which IMHO looked too modern (especially to play tunes from the 60s).
Brilliant transcription. Looks like you're on a Nord E2/3? Good Rhodes sound.. I could never get on with mine so I sold it some years back. Even try slaving it up to a midi controller with weight action but that never felt right either. I've been flirting with the idea of getting the Crumar seven, but I hate the knobs on the front panel.. and I'm afraid they'll come out with a mkII as soons as I buy it.
Between 3:24 and 3:27 did you play an accidental on that D Note ?? I only ask because it kinda sounds like this happened on the actual record and if you recreated that on purpose then I’m super impressed. ❤
Austin Hutto - yes, you are correct. I remember reading about them trying to get the wurlitzer to EMI for billy to use but something happened and he stuck with the rhodes. Im also seeing that Nicky Hopkins played Wurlitzer on Revolution. Anyway, thanks! I’ll change it back
I can't think of a single Beatles song with a Wurli. They used a lot of Hohner in the early years and then went on to Rhodes but they still used the pianet in some songs (Getting Better, Let It Be (album version)). The pianet has a similar sound to Wurli but it has that characteristic click when a key is depressed.
Hey great Job and wow great tone. Please Tell me did you play over a vox ac30 ? Or how did you recorded that Song ? I have Seen the Blue Bulldogs in the back. Thanks for the asnwer
It's a damn dirty shame that the Beatles couldn't have stayed together longer, because Mr. Preston would have made a fantastic permanent addition to them. Bless his name.
That's exactly what I've been thinking when listening to this song a lot recently. Maybe it's for the best to keep us wanting more.
Ehhhhh if that case with the 16 year old boy is trie then maybe he wasn’t such an innocent soul.
He original was going to be the 5th Beatle but Paul didn't want him in because he knew it was near the end of the group's time together
@@thebookofeli849 thats just wrong
@@Gas2311 not exactly, he said in the get back documentary it’s difficult enough keeping the four of them on the same page

Aren't you the former keyboard player of Dream Theater?
3:04 and on is just pure genius! Thanks for sharing.
wow bily preston plays the biggest role in this masterpiece
I think ringos drumming played a massive roll as well and the vocal harmonies also played a huge roll

Incredibly beautiful playing by Billy Preston. No other musician ever fit in so perfectly with the Beatles than he did. I feel lucky that I once saw him playing live with his band years ago. He is one of my ultimate keyboard idols.
Beautiful job. Preston’s work on this track is so smooth, classy, and understated. He was really something.
This is very eye-opening. I never realized how many whole notes there were in this part. As musicians were often tempted to just play constantly all the time throughout the song. Nice to know playing this reserved still works.
My favourite Beatles song. Billy Preston was amazing.
Billy’s ability to just play something that works so well is unparamount
Beautiful and Soulful phrasing from Billy Preston.

Leeane Dominic I see what u did there
good catch!!!! same thing!
Yeah Lennon was heavily influenced by asian music, probably because of Yoko, and he used the pentatonic scale to catch that as they are commonly used in some asian cultures. I guess he sort of found his own kind of melodies in that scale :)
@@possibletrees- Whole song I'm a Jealous Guy is pure pentatonic scale.
It was great to see Billy in the GET BACK project and also on the rooftop, he brought many Beatles songs to life
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONT IVE WAITINF FOR THIS
Such wonderful stuff. Thanks for uploading
RIP Billy Preston

Yes Billy Preston was amazing. So thanks for the piano or whatever it is called. Love that song that was sung on the roof.❤
Finally someone REALLY playing the piano of the song and not the copy-paste of the vocals and guitar.
I really love u for this.
It's such a long shot that such talent could be in one town. It's mind-boggling that they found each and formed a band.
heaven plays. Good thank for Billy Preston. True musician. Always love it.
Absolutely amazing! Watching you play gave great insight into Preston's magic.
Billy Preston was just great. When I've first heard Don't Let Me Down, I was straightaway nailed to this piano line and wondered who was on it.
Billy really did a stellar job on this track. Masterful
I've just noticed yesterday that mistake at 01:56 and Even you replied here. I was not expecting so many precission
Thank god someone did this. Thanks so much everyone else just did the vocal lines and now I can play with my band.
Praise you mate 😀
I wonder which planet the Beatles came here from.
kevin byrne - Im not sure of the planet, but Id guess Zeta Reticuli or Alpha Centauri for the star system
They came from the Earth.
Liverpool
I often wonder that too

My cover band just landed our first gig and I blew their socks off at rehearsal thanks to this video. Thank you and great playing!

Mrs. Featherbottom - Thank you! It took a long time to figure out, memorize and play
@@AblyHouse I was thinking this is archival quality, too. Just awesome to see it.
Love Billy's playing, he nailed on Rhodes and Hammond
Billy preston was a genius...
Wonderful
Holy shit! You play it pretty much 100% like Billy Preston. And you even play the ”wrong notes”. Amazing job.
this gives me the goosebumps
AMAZING
WONDERFUL
Pretty damn impressive 🙌 excellent performance
Gorgeous!
Love your stuff. Now I can work on playing this on my Rhodes :')
Thank you for making this video.

What’s wrong with your Nord?It looks infected with 70’s furniture. Great playing

Wish the background track was louder. Anyway your playing is spot on.
I thought he had the track volume spot on, most Beatles fans have it encrusted in memory so no backing track needed.
Have you got by any chance a transcription of the solo? Thank you. And very well played!!

Preston actually used a fender Rhodes
