No external drive support seems like a massive oversight and could be a deal breaker for many. Hopefully they will bring that feature at some point.
i was thinking the same thing.
Or editing off a NAS (though editing 4K ProRes over WiFi can be pretty iffy). I wonder if they plan on going more "Pro" in the future adding these kinds of features... of focusing on small 'social centric' projects only.
Having Mac-to-iPad portability would be another requirement.
Maybe not in version 1.
Would be amazing if the port in the Magic Keyboard could act as an independent connection for external drives - while the iPad Pro is connected to a big camera that is exporting RAW video via an HMDI to Thunderbolt 4 cable.
Why would you want external storage when you can pay 10 times as much for internal storage on iPad? Or even better, buy a new iPad if you run out of storage.
Especially when resolve for ipad can access external drives
That’s gonna be pretty cool! Happy they’re finally bringing it to iPad! 😁
Very disappointed by the monthly subscription. I am too using FCP from years and I honestly think they should do a fix price and then maybe some purchase in app. I just upgraded Lumafusion last week with the multicam editing and it works great. It was an “in app purchase” that feature and there is no monthly subscription . I think I stick with Lumafusion then…
I can’t wait for this. Being able to edit from an SSD is going to have to be available at some point. It’s insane not to. But FCP on my iPad is going to be amazing.
No external storage support is garbage. Hopefully that’s changed in an update.
Just buy 1T iPad
@@ThomasC_ 1TB not enough for pro editors. We need access via external SSD when working on multiple projects. Some projects have their own dedicated external SSD as part of the workflow. External storage access is crucial.
@@GrandFyre yeah ik but if you have to start a project while you’re traveling you can build the structure of the project and then send it to your MacBook if you have one and 1T would be enough, of course external SSD are something you can’t get rid of if you’re a pro editor, but it’s a good starting, and I believe that once all the iPad will have the usb-c port apple will allow external devices access
@@ThomasC_ just allow external SSD support.
Why would you want to make the workflow more difficult. Side with the customer, not the company. 👍🏽
why not have an external SSD?
Wow, I'm super excited about this. I am a windows user so didn't invest in a Mac just for video editing for my RUclips channel. So all the videos on my channel were 100% edited on my iPad Pro using Lumafusion! LumaFusion is great and run super smoothly on all current iPad models and even older ones ... it doesn't need the M1 or M2 chip like Final Cut does .... but it does have its limitations. So, I am definitely going to check this out and will do a comparison with Lumafusion as well!
I’m so excited for this it looks really great and I was waiting for you to have a video on this Justine! I’m really excited because it means that Apple hasn’t forgotten about Final Cut and I can’t wait for some of these updates to come to the desktop version!
This one feature is the only reason I would update from my 2017 iPad. I will wait for real world reviews and see if it is worth it and not been crippled , great video, thankyou .
I am happy that Final Cut is finally on iPad, but the subscription fee is a huge negative and not being able to work from a hard drive. The features you showed looked really cool and maybe in time I may check it out. Right now I’m using Lumefusion to edit all my content.
It kind of makes sense for the iPad imo. A lot of people are not going to be able to access it if they kept the price at a one-time-purchase $300. Making it a really cheap monthly subscription service makes a lot of sense since iPad users usually aren't doing any heavy production / doing it professionally. It gives a lot more people access for when they need to use it temporarily. I just wish they kept the option to do a one-time-purchase.
Why is the subscription a huge negative? Isn't paying $5 a month a lot easier to afford and budget vs $300 all at once? I make pretty good money but a $300 purchase is still pretty rough. when I was a student it was pretty much impossible without a loan from somebody. $5 a month is 16 cents a day. It's insanely affordable and costs as a single Starbucks.
As for the external storage I get it and yes it's kind of annoying. At the same time editing on the iPad is about portability and being able to use it on the move. Dangling an external drive to a tablet is just not very practical. This is also the default way FCP on the desktop works. Any imported media is copied to the library which is by default on the internal drive. Users of the desktop FCP have to go into the preferences and set the libraries to always leave media in their original location and link to that location in the library. This is what leads to the missing media in FCP projects when that media is missing.
The entire point of on the go iPad editing is the minimal device and not being tethered to a bunch of other gear. It's not really meant to edit at a desk bogged down. Thats what the other Macs are there for. If its the only device one has I get the frustration but I would argue a lot of desktop FCP users don't know to change the preferences from the default and always work by importing to the internal library.
You can of course still plug in an external drive and import the media to the iPad library. You just need to have the space free to edit that project. What I have found with iMovie is you can archive the libraries/projects to an external drive and delete them from the iPad. Then import the projects back into iMovie. I'm sure the same will be true for FCP. It uses the Files feature of the iPad to access all the locations including iCloud and external drives. This is a way to move the completed projects to an external drive to free up space for the next project.
Would be nice to always work from an external drive but I think that would be more annoying than what it's worth for the kind of work one might do on an iPad. I just don't think it's going to be normal to buy a iPad to edit a 2 hour movie with fCP from a large external raid. There are much better tools for that kind of work. The iPad and FCP are a set of tools for mobility and being able to edit 100% on the road away from a desk or tethered to any other gear. It's about being completely free with just your hands to shoot, import, cut and be creative. Yes that means users will want more storage but that should kind of be a given if they really want to work with video. The 512 GB iPad Pro is still a somewhat reasonable price. The 1 TB and 2 TB models really sky rocket fast and I could see those being a major setback for budding artists wanting to use an iPad and FCP. 512 GB should be enough for quick creative shorts however. Especially if each completed project is archived to an external drive.
Personally this setup is not for me. I have a 128GB M1 13" iPad Pro so I will play with FCP but it will likely never be my main tool of choice. I have a 14" M1 Pro MBP that will edit circles around the iPad and isn't any less portable. For me that is still the best solution. I love my iPad Pro for watching HDR content and daily tasks but I'm not about to upgrade it any time soon.
@@digitaldevigner4080 Damn I agree but bro why did you write a 5 paragraph essay lmfao
@@digitaldevigner4080 wtf i am not reading this long
I hope they add external drive support soon! Kinda makes my 256gb iPad Pro useless for FCP for most of my projects😞
They already have it. You can use a Samsung T7 or San Disk 256k flash drive
@@TriedTrue where’d you get your info? Everything I’ve seen says no external SSD.
@@Bas20hz I have an iPad 9th generation with lightning that supports the San disk 256g flash drive so why wouldn’t the pro?
@@TriedTrue They can from apps that support it such as davinci or luma fusion but for now final cut pro doesn’t seem to support it. I believe they will soon tho. Probably at WWDC23
I am so excited!!
Awesome Video and in-depth breakdown on how everything works and has changed.Appreciate it ✌️
I bought the original Final Cut Pro when I was at university and I’ve had all the upgrades but I agree with you. It is well worth paying the monthly or the yearly subscription to get all the upgrades if you are going to be using your iPad for editing or for anything else to do with Adobe or Apple software, dealing with television editing photography or motion picture editing why not pay the monthly or yearly subscription to have all the upgrades as they come out the right on to your device and I am so pleased that they’ve done this because it makes my life easier. I love my iPad 12.9, and when they come out with the 14.1 or the 16.1 I’ll be the first one in line to get to use this software and other software that I’ve been using since 1997 keep up the good work with the videos and I’m going to be buying your audiobook soon on your bet on your book
bummed about it not having external drive support hopefully that will change in the near future
Wait - what?! I just bought a M2 iPad Pro with only 128gb storage, as my Luma Fusion and Resolve projects are on external SSDs - are you saying the iPad FCP will not support external strorage? Wh…how…what is the point, if you have projects over 1-2TB nowadays easily (and record onto SSDs right from cameras)
@@draxxicek We can hope it comes in near future, I was insanely annoyed no tracker is coming on iPad version, only on MacBook. But on a subscription, a very first version of app, I think lots of potential to come in future, especially since ssd editing is so important, as you say even the 2tb won’t be able to do some big edits
Don't worry, it will be released on the Final Cut Pro Max... for an additional $9.99😉😉😉
They need something to add in 2 years from now.. you know the name of the game is incremental updates lol
No iCloud offload?
Nicely done, Justine.
TBH im not in favor of subscription plans. Ill stick with Lumafusion cause it just works and does 4k 60 on my 2018 iPad pro (No FCP due to not being M1 or higher).
I am so exited for this! 🎉
Justine and I are the exact same age born in ‘84, not all of us grew up with computers but most millennials eventually did. In junior high (late 90s) I started editing non-linear video on these pro VHS, Hi-8, and VHS-C decks in my video production class. We had a decent setup but it was quite challenging to edit physical tape that way. My class also had a Mac and we started to learn Final Cut, and while it was easier and more convenient, it took AGES to capture video on to the timeline! It’s beyond incredible to see that we can do ALL of this and more with these slim, portable, but powerful devices! What’s next??! Well, I can’t wait to edit audio and video in VR! 🎉 😮😮
I didn’t do any video editing in school ( born at the very end of 81 ) but to think the iPad or iPhone is more powerful than the computers we used when I left school in 1998 is insane to me.
I love my ipad air 5 for photo editing and soon video editing ( only short 60 second videos I think ) is amazing. I am able to edit on the go and free up my SDcards when I forget to dump photos on to my pc.
My teenage daughters grew up with this technology and have a grip on it at the same level as I do. But I have always had a technological mindset, even taking apart my dads stereo when I was four, and I mean I stripped that sucker into pieces 😂
Thanks for the exclusive footage! Loved seeing pinch to zoom in the timeline, and working with the Apple Pencil seems fast and intuitive. Did you try it out with the Magic Keyboard to see how keyboard shortcuts work? Or to see how it works with the trackpad?
Lumafusion has been at this for some time without a subscription model, external drive and now recently, multi-cam editing support.
Will be interesting to see if they integrate the iPad with the Mac too, like Logic Remote on steroids. It is disappointing it can't use external drives or fully compatible with Mac version.
That’s awesome news about Final Cut Pro coming on the iPad Justine ❤
Nice video iJ!
It’s about time finally
Awesome job Justine
So excited!!!🎉
Ok now this brings iPads to whole another level with a pro-level editing suite which no android tablets could match! Great work Apple and also to Justine always for your great work.🥰 Yesterday I was literally amazed seeing Apple's official youtube channel video on this and was thinking how come no tech youtubers were talking about it till now. Deactivated(eventually account got deleted) my twitter though so couldn't get the conversation there as well.
Pro editing? Capcut has been there for long. Apple is only catching up
@@supremeblix capcut? This is not an answer any professional editor would give haha
@@supremeblix bro said capcut 💀💀
@@supremeblix Capcut? Get out of here
@@supremeblix whats wrong with this guy? Capcut profesional editing 😂
THIS IS beautiful !!!!!
Your excitement excites me😊
It's cool to see that Apple is investing some time and resources into FCP. It's a good sign for the future of FCP (on the MacOS version too)!
Love you Justine! 🫶🏽
Lumafusion can do voice isolation, six tracks of video multicam, USE EXTERNAL DRIVES, Export to Final Cut and more. It’s $29.99 one time, $19.99 one time for multicam. Apple is insane
That's true too. I have it. But I'm looking to see what Logic is gonna be like on the iPad
Final cut has many features that are not in Lumafusion and you chose the ones that they both have😂
You forgot the horrible UI of Lumafusion (which I expect to be better on FCP, but we’ll have to wait to confirm that..)
I’d rather edit on the Mac. No thanks Assholes. I mean…. Apple.
Ah yes, good ol crappy Lumafusion. I’m going with Final Cut.
We have all wanted this for so long! I have the M1 Ipad Pro so will run on that fine. Can't wait to try it and do simple edits from my Iphone to the Imac and get some cool edits made :)
Hi nice to see you here love you videos about camcorders
@@lesleyhaan116 Many thanks :)
Glad I’d gone for the 1TB for my 12.9” M1. Never thought it would come in so handy.
depending on the bit rate your 1TB iPad may last 15 minutes or so, LOL
Thanks, I couldn't think of Mac OS & iPad OS backward compatibility issues since I never owned an iPad . It was helpful & Can't wait to see the full review 🙂
Wait no external drives! I was so excited for this, but this is nearly impossible for anything other than super short clips. Wow thats a bummer
@Alan Hughes such a weird omission when they allowed lumafusion and DaVinci to do external storage editing. tells me this is aimed at the social media crowd for videos 60 seconds or less
How do you compare what's coming with FCP to Lumafusion? One thing I do like about Luma is working files on external drives. Is that an option that will come in future? All my videos on my channel are filmed on phone and edited on the iPad. I hope that external drive support is added.
DUDE I LOVE IJUSTINE ❤
I just bought an M2 iPad and can’t wait to use this to push my podcast creation further.
If they released it in a press release, WWDC is going to be intense. They usually save announcements like this FOR WWDC
“Hello Little Goats 💕” 😁 you are adorable Justine 🥹
8:28 thats kinda the point, you don’t remember when you bought Final Cut last yet you still get to use it and get updates. FCPX was like $300 when I bought it about 11 years ago and I will have paid about $588 with this pricing model so far…and it never ends. Most would prefer the option to pay per month, per year, or a one time much larger fee to have a lifetime copy and not have yet another subscription.
Plus don’t forget it’s 5$ *NOW* lol nothing stopping them from 19$ a month in two years like Netflix starting at 6.99$ and now it’s 18$
Thanks for the video
I wonder how it stacks up with Luma Fusion?
I can't wait.
I think it's gonna be so cool on an iPad
Your videos are always the best
Many of the new features, would love for them to be in the mac version!
Hi Justine, the note-pad with kick-stand is like it!
With Xcode Cloud last year, I am fairly convinced now that we will see a Beta Xcode for iPad at WWDC, BRING IT ON.
Left Handed 🔥
I'm disappointed at the price. Luma Fusion is one and done price and supports an external hard drive. I am a FCP user and this iPad version should be included with the desktop version. I see this being an excellent app for the price if the content was interchangeable between desktop and iPad. My two cents.
A note about the Scene Removal Mask feature, the video has to be on a tripod/still and it gathers the background from the first frame of the video. So if you are wanting to use that feature, make sure to have yourself out of the frame before you start recording.
smart thanks
WE REJOICE!!!!
I’m gonna need a RUclips channel to come out showing simple “how to” videos with iPad Final Cut Pro. I plan on doing light video editing so I’d love to learn tips and effects.
Ill take care of that
❤ your sweater
Is this a light and basic version from FCP’s original? How lighter it is?
Yess finally woop woop!!
Great video! Bummed out about not being able to external drives and not being able to send your projects back from the Mac to the iPad. The shooting in ProRes right inside the FCP app on the iPad is cool. This would only work on the 6th gen iPad Pro M2 correct? I own the M1 and would like to shoot in ProRes on the iPad. Can't do it right?
excited AF!!!!!! but on another note, what band are you using on your watch??? been looking for you like that forever
Quick question! For this video, your little masked circle over the footage-did you create that in FCP with a mask? Like, add a mask, make it a circle, adjust the scale and position of your video over the other footage ... Or did you use a program or plugin that saves time and gives you that little circle shot of your face more easily?
I have final cut pro , I downloaded from torrent and the best part is , it get updates too.
*FINALLY SOMEONE MADE A DAMN Video on this. I wanted to see SOMEONE talk about this as I've seen twitter post on it, and THANK YOU iJustine & I would Pay $4.99/per month as will use this on My iPad Air but I'll probably upgrade to the M1 as I don't think the 4th Gen will be able to Run it*
Oh my god I’m so so so happy
Will these new themes and music be added to Final Cut on Mac?
Justine i bought my iPad 12.9 pro after watching you speak about them I also bought my iphone 11 too now it is time for a new phone and a iPad Pro ,so please fill me in ,what’s the best ! Thank you
OMG it comes out on my birthday!!
Please do a video when this releases that was fully edited on iPad! That’d be cool
I want your sweater!! 😄
Finally for 4 years of waiting
Will the pro camera mode be coming to iPhones too?
Amazing ❤
Love your sweater
And I am super happy Logic Pro is also finally coming to iPad which is way more advanced than garage band.
I’m excited for it and this is interesting. While I agree with everyone about external support, I know for my workflow, I solely use the iPhone and iPad to capture out in the field, so this will be a win considering our investment within iCloud Drive as well. Anyhow, great move and this couldn’t have come at a better time seeing I just recently went all in on the iPad Pro with 1TB and thinking this will suffice.
Great vid as always well shown & told goodthings thanks...hahah...
great video thanks
Yes! Question :)) I bought the MotionVFX mKeynote because I love your videos & simplicity and you recommended it. Where do I find instructions on how I can do the "Circle Video in Video" for Mac??? Is that one of the options for mKeynote or is that a separate tool? I think your "video in video" starts at 6:30 on the one above)
Amazing
What if you have the Final Cut Pro full app- can it work with this new update ?
Do you think at some point you would be able to edit off. Of an external hard drive ?
So I already have Final Cut on my mac and like a lot of apps they transfer from iPad to I phone and you don’t have to pay for it twice so will I have to buy this for I pad since I already own it
OK, wait... The intelligent music length thing... is that just exclusive to the iPad version of FCP?
Hi Justine!
I have several plugins from mMorion and I was wondering if these plugins purchased to be used in FCP on the MacBook can be used on the iPad?
We appreciate Justine's dedication and commitment on this channel. God bless her.
She has more channels?
You mean that she doesn't already make a fortune out of it? why shouldn't she show commitment to a fountain of money and fame???
LAte upload let’s go 🔥🔥🕺🏽
Pretty good launch feature set. But not being able to go back from Mac to iPad is disappointing but hopefully fixable in the future.
Now i can use my ipad pro m2 ❤
FINALLY!!!!!
Question I have a IPAD 6th Gen 128gb M2 Chip 2022. Do you know if the Logic app will work with it?
I have been waiting for this program. but I was waiting for it as an adapted version for the iPad with the same price (that is, if you bought it for a poppy - you can just download it!)
Should we purchase it again even though we have FCP on Mac?
Sadly now that Apple has set the standard for charging twice for the same product I would guess when third party plugins launch we'll see a secondary fee from many companies as well for the iPad version.
Seriously just don’t get the iPad version. Don’t support this dystopian future.
Rock on so amazing.
Saw apple post earlier and wanted to know if they’ll also support adobe premiere?
Interestingly, Logic Pro for iPad has the ability to transfer projects back and forth. I guess it's easier for audio. Though third-party plugins are super popular in music making, so it's gonna be interesting how the compatibility works in Logic.
Not related to FCP but what watch strap is that on your Ultra? Looks veery sleek.
And now I wonder if Logic Pro (not just the remote) will also come to iPad
Yes.
Both Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro are arriving on the App Store for iPad on May 23rd.
Waiting to see this new fcp options on Mac
Omgawdddd yasssss 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾
So if it's a decision to start from the beginning. Do I learn Descript or do I learn this?
