  • The story of our Diné is more intricate than what has been told in the history books.
The stories passed down from generation to generation through storytelling, ceremonies and songs tells of a people who came from the east.
Across the flat lands. Stopping along the way. Sometimes for many years while they searched for where they were meant to be.
These places they would stop on the journey across the flat lands were places of refuge. But they would eventually have to emerge again.
Until they found the future of Dinétah.
This video was shot in Lake Scott State Park Kansas.

I'm so glad you included the Diné language being spoken. It is so wonderful to hear and soothing. It makes me happy whenever an Indigenous language is spoken especially since it has been in much danger of being lost.

Yeah, that's really similar to the estimated lifespan of orcas, which have some interesting matriarchal/matrilineal leadership/ societal structures similar to some human cultures also. I've heard of a few other old cultures where people were expected to live for just over a century, too. Amazing to hear this pop up in this video and reconsider in contrast to what we're taking as a norm for society here and now.

I love this history and the Diné language. I tried to learn along with teenagers where they really didn’t know how to speak in their language. Keeping the culture is very important. Otherwise it dies. Thank you Elder for this video.

I just randomly visited a site near Lubbock called Yellow House Canyon where a plaque was posted telling of the American Bison Hunters attacking a Comanche and Apache village. 1877- such a short time ago really. Your teachings are giving me context far beyond what these “historical markers” and the internet mention. Thank you and I honor the Dine/Ute/ Comanche/Apache etc. on whose sacred ground I live and travel.

Interestingly, in Çatalhöyük Turkey, they built the homes the same way, often combining them and even stacking them vertically. They did that probably 7,000 years ago. Goes to show that brilliant minds think alike.
What a beautiful language. The tones remind of Mandarin which has 4 tones and Cantonese which has, I believe 9 - though those languages don't have the beauty and eloquence that Diné has. It also has the inflections of Sanskrit, the compounding of German, and the nasal sound often heard in Portuguese. Fascinating.

I sincerely hope, as one who's parents are long gone, that those who know Wally personally take the opportunity to learn from his knowledge and life experience. People of his generation from all walks of life should be greatly respected and cherished.

The entrance from the top of the houses reminds me of the kekuli homes made by the peoples of what is now eastern British Columbia. Their homes were built into the earth and provided insulation from the cold winters. "Modern" humans would do well to heed the lessons of Nature and build according to the local conditions. I so appreciate your teachings.

I volunteer each year (except the last few due to the pandemic) on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation where the Ogala Lakota Sioux live. It is wonderful to hear the Dine and Lakota languages. Thank you for sharing. I spent a year in New Mexico, Albuquerque and points north. I attended Pueblo feast days (Northern Pueblos) whenever possible. I felt a strong bond with nature there - very emotional - or maybe just from the altitude (😉). I learned about the origin, the emergence. That was almost 50 years ago - but I feel north New Mexico is my spirit home, if that makes any sense……and now the US Forest Service has (again) burned much of it !!! There are no words for such an evil act !

Many Native tribes mention the "Ant People" when speaking about creation/origin..
My whole life, I've believed in 'hallow earth', and there are many proofs of it in localized areas..
Could the Diné [and others like them] have been Who the elders referred to as the Ant People?
To me, that would certainly make a lot of sense.. [Appearing from caves and/or underground structures]
These stories/teachings are the absolute best! Much respect and thanks for sharing!
