Loved this forever. Since I first heard it sometime in the early 70’s. Have never quite stopped humming it every now and then since.

Same here. And I found the recent updated stage version of Godspell to be even better than the original---which back then, I didn't think was possible.

Developed from the prayer of St Richard of Chichester!
      Something old made new.
The Holy Spirit does that all the time...
      Including to me!

@@sidpheasant7585 Thank you for sharing your knowledge of St. Richard. I am an enormous Godspell fan, but never knew the origin of this prayer. BTW, I am named Richard too!

@@seascape35 Fine to find your comment and contact on Good Friday, surely a sign in and of itself! The Holy Spirit does them; many, many, many of them (even in the awful 2020s) - through Scripture, nature, culture (as here) and Rapture (not long now). My best friend at school was a Richard, and that name goes back in my family several centuries, even thuogh it is not as common among ordinary British folk as we might think... I no longer live in the UK, but of course I love it dearly (for all its faults it has a LOT of Holy Spirit divinity - noticeable/tangible with the death of Her Late Majesty and then the Coronation) ... but the effect was for my family to return there for loooooong holidays (once we could afford that!!), and I saw the very best of my own country as a tourist! My father-in-law was a Richard too, and his life ended in a very looooooong decline through Parkinson's, and wondrously (TBTG) he was mostly not very difficult to look after. One trip to England, we went to the Cathedral in Chichester (some fine "seascapes" there) and saw the altar to St Richard and bought a copy of the "Day by Day" prayer for the father-in-law. It all became special, and - when the pandemic began - I started to "attend" the online services at that Cathedral - a habit which continues through to today, and I kind-of feel like a parishioner of that Cathedral! On the same British trip, we attended a London play called "Quartermaine's Terms" which is a bleak offering about teachers of English - which I became, my wife and her sister are, and her father and mother too. Wikipedia notes "Quartermaine himself [whose first name is St John - SP] is an increasingly pathetic figure lost in his own confused thoughts", so that fit rather well with my father-in-law.The star was Rowan Atkinson, and obviously we did the London thing and waited out back to try to see the face known as the best-known British face in the world! Eventually he came out and we asked for an autograph dedicated "to Richard", explaining to "Mr Bean" that our now-very-ill relative had been an English teacher all his life. Rowan proved a gentleman, more than obliging and more than kind, and so we had 2 special souvenirs to take back for my father-in-law - whose death was actually the trigger leading to me being Born Again, revealing that we had been FAR closer in spirit than I imagined! Anyway, as we know, Rowan is quite famous for mocking (actually it's more like gentle ridicule) of the Church and vicars, yet both Mr Bean and his character in "Love Actually" have been regarded as angels (Bean is a fallen one, who eventually - and very tangibly - gets redemption on the beach at Cannes); and God has used Rowan for His purpose through the Holy Spirit, with both "Mr Bean's Vacation" and "Love Actually" being (yes, honestly) feelg(o)od movies of divine message and content... Remarkably (or not), Mr Atkinson has faced, but been saved from, death on several occasions ... and he recently UNITED with the Christian Institute (yes, really) in defence of the right to free speech relating to religion (ruclips.net/video/xUezfuy8Qpc/видео.html). The Holy Spirit does wondrous and complex and beautiful things suffused with love and truth and meaning, and digging for them and presenting them has become my thing ... because that is what He wants from me in the name of Jesus. There are many signs in Godspell the movie (50 years old last year) - there was a British Director (David Greene) who knew how to get the best and the most beautiful and divine out of New York (of all places) and the actors. If you so choose (on Good Friday) check out my comments under the film at ruclips.net/video/ndOBdlL6Uwg/видео.html, which features the wondrous and inspired ending of Godspell, in which those clowns prove BETTER than the original Disciples in knowing what to do. Atkinson plays clowns too, is one. I am one when I teach English, though obviously I'm also a very serious person! 1 Corinthians 1:18. Many more signs described under Godspell's ending by me (including as regards the mockingbird - three signs in one) ... for those who are ready for them. Hope that's you, my friend! Love to hear your story if you have time!!! Caring online for someone we do not know and will never meet is pure Jesus!!! Otherwise God bless you and be with you! And search out the Holy Spirit with all his signs and gifts. Who would say no to all that wonder? I didn't.
