This was one of the first interviews I watched of David Bowie after I just discovered him (just last month actually) and I wasn't aware he had a cocaine addiction at the time. He was just delightful and charming here in a peculiar way. He still gave great answers and remarks, and his smiles and chuckles made you smile with him. Maybe I did get a whiff that he seemed more giddy and fidgety than one would normally behave in an interview like this one, one considered more on the serious side. Still, he was engaging. :) I don't know how that's even possible when one's drugged up.

Dick Cavett was a phenomenal interviewer, I've seen him get the most genuine answers out of some of life's most fascinating artists and I think it's down to how conversational he is. The first time I've ever seen it stumble was when he asked Bowie about being nervous, and the second Bowie pulled away from the question he backed off. Fascinating interview from both sides of the table.
There's something VERY asmr about Bowie... I've always felt this. I'll just watch interviews with him to feel....sane, and good, and understood. Something about his extreme creative theatrical artistic expressive side....coupled with a very real introversion. And a sort of provocative exhibitionism. He was a confident introvert.
