2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review - Improved Enough For Nearly $70K?

  • The 'Nismo' moniker has historically carried high expectations from driving enthusiasts. But with no available manual transmission, and only a 20hp bump over the much cheaper normal Z, does the new Z Nismo offer enough performance and thrills for its nearly $70K price tag?

      It’s Nissan. Their entire business model for the past few decades is existing off bottom of the barrel cars that are mostly lease/sold to rental car agency. It’s all they really know to do, and it shows even in their “top” offerings.

      @@joeracer302 Hmm... Who makes better sportscars out of the Nissan-Renault alliance then? Nissan/Infiniti or Renault/Alpine? 🤔 The Alpine A110 technically has a dual-clutch, but it's just the transverse Getrag dual clutch that comes in lots of things. Honestly, the Renault PK4 manual gearbox is decent enough (much stronger the old Renault manual box in the old Clio RS) and would suit the A110 nicely, but emissions and all that (higher WLTP CO2/km for a manual A110) is against it I guess.

      And you can buy a 370Z for $15k, which is basically the same car as the Z without twin-turbos! I'm not sure it's fair to compare used cars. The 991 is certainly better 'value' being a depreciated used car -- presumably parts are more expensive because they come in a box that says "Porsche Genuine Parts" on it and not "Nissan Genuine Parts" but I don't know if that's necessary true... Only a 20hp increase? That will be from a minor tweek in the tuning. The 370z Nismo used higher compression pistons for it to have more power than the regular 370. Seems like they are either penny pinching or just being lazy with this Nismo Z.

      Nissan has been lazy for a long time.

    • @Unicornpirate
      @Unicornpirate 9 дней назад +4

      No. Learn your stuff before commenting. The Nismo 370z only had a mild ECU tune and a H-pipe exhaust to get that 350hp over the base 370z 332hp. The engine internals and everything else is the same in the motor. Add to that the non adjustable coilovers, bodykit, and the Yamaha body dampers. 19 inch Nismo wheels and slightly wider tires. A Sport package 370 gets you the same brakes and oil cooler you find on the Nismo. Nismo also has the seats but not real actual Recaro Sportster CS. The bottom seat is the same as the Sport package Z only the seatback is Recaro. Compare the bolters of a real Recaro Sportster CS to the Nismo sets and you will see what I am talking about.
      It was the Nismo 380RS which had a higher compression, stroked built engine from Nismo. But that was only available in Japan. That's where you saw the jump from 306hp to 350hp. Also since its a Nismo 350z, it has a seam welded chassis...something the Nismo 370z never got.

They don't let people take them for test drives or anything, so they really can't be serious. 3700 lb is way too heavy for a 2 door sports coupe… and yes BMW M2 doesn’t get a pass there either, but at least it has more power (now 473 for 2025) and more importantly proper 6 speed manual.

      Is the Alpine A110 (2412 lbs) the answer from Nissan-Renault? Obviously it doesn't have a six cylinder engine and is a physically small car, maybe a touch bigger than a MX-5 or Elise. No manual in the A110 either even though one existed in the Megane RS previously, presumably for cost and emissions reasons.

      Is there a market to sell that as well as the GR86? The GR86 is that already (240hp at the crank now?), same size, same weight -- with the bonus of no turbo (of course there's always the infamous P-plate legal Autech naturally aspirated Silvia with 200hp!).

      @@TassieLorenzo Yes there's indeed a market for a light weight rwd coupe with a backseat like the 240sx. The ridiculous inflated prices of old lightweight sportscars and sportcoupes especially jdm shows how desirable such a car would be. My old mr2 turbo is now worth 3 times the pre-covid prices for example. Same for my old e30 325is.
      A stripped down Lotus Emira with the regular 300hp non-supercharged 3.5 v6 as a new Toyota MR2 would be sold out! Toyota should do that!!
      The gr86 missed the mark by not evolving the 2.0 into a 300hp 3.0 flat 6...imagine that! A real porsche cayman competitor.

      @@jonasbaine3538 It sounds great! I think the worry was that bracket creep of making everything stronger (brakes, transmission, axles, wheel bearings, control arms etc) to handle the flat-six would make the 86 turn into something heavier like the Nissan Z or Supra anyway, since OEMs have to keep a much larger durability margin than someone swapping a EZ30 into a 86 themselves. 🤔

    Wheels look amazing

  • @GeorgeXian
    @GeorgeXian 6 дней назад

    I'm pretty sure the tire chirp into 2nd because the box slam shifts into second gear whilst the engine RPM is still high - too high for the wheel speed in that gear. This causes the engine to exerts extra torque on the wheels trying bring the wheels to the speed at that RPM for second gear but ultimately the wheels win because it has the whole car's weight on them so instead it is the engine that slows down to the correct speed. This is a slush box so the speed differential between the engine and the gearbox cause output torque to multiply.

    Some outlets have noted the Nismo didn't come with a manual because the transmission didn't pass durability testing. Nissan should make the investment to beef up the FS6R31 transmission and install that in all manual transmission Z cars to provide a reason for people to pick this over a Mustang Dark Horse or A91 Supra with a manual. I don't need any of these things in a car. Oh and its a limited production car and it can also chirp the tires going 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear.
    Throttle House did a video of the new Z against a 370 Nismo and it was only half a second faster than the 370z. Best Motoring compared the 350 and 370 and the 370 was only half a second faster than the 350. Not much of an improvement.
