    watching your videos makes me want to grow out my beard, retire, move to a tiny cabin on a small lake in conclusion, and wake up every morning at 4 am to go fish the only problem is i’m a 19 year old girl
    i also have the strongest urge to make a woodshop in my garage and i don’t even think i’ve ever touched a saw before

    I would like to see your attempt at making a life-size bullfrog lure.. in which the back legs move in a swimming motion as the Frog lunges forward. I think it would be a very challenging lure and I can see how that could be done on paper😌 but I'll let you give it thought.

    Dude, you never fail to amaze. You truly are an amazing artist. I think if you could get it to sink, you could catch some giant musky/pike, because that action is just AWESOME! You could maybe try adding some weight at the nose on your trace to pull it down and if casting is an issue, you could always troll it behind a boat. I think I once said (when I first started watching your videos) that’s you should try playing music or something on the sped up parts. I wholeheartedly take that back. Your videos are just superb as they are, much appreciated, and I enjoy every minute! Thanks man 😎👊
    Just a side story...
    The reason I ended up on your channel (just over a year ago) was because I decided I wanted to try and make some pike lures. I realised that it was going to get pretty costly to start out (tools, power tools, materials etc, and I always go real head on to everything so I know I would have ended up spending a fortune!). So, whilst having a mini marathon watching your videos, a video of a fly being tied by Niklaus Bauer was in my recommended. It was the first time I had ever seen a pike fly and straight away, I realised it was something I could do with less expense (how wrong I was, fly tying is expensive lol). I ended up buying a load of materials, a vice, and started tying pike flies..... then I went out and bought a pike fly combo. This is where I fell in love with fly fishing. It really is a totally different fight and from day one, I have never cast a fly tied by anyone other than myself. Don’t take that the wrong way, I’m no snob, but the feeling of catching a fish on a lure/fly that you have put your heart into making, is one of a kind feeling that I’m always chasing!
    Anyways, I’m sorry to bore you with this long post and if you’re still here (I really hope it is ok to do this?!), and you would like to check out some of my flies/pike, my insta is @donw3st
    Peace and tight lines everybody ✌️

  • @devdeque7846
    @devdeque7846 5 лет назад +14

    Awesome lure dude. I can't imagine the hand cramps it took to carve this bait. But I feel ya', its so hard to design action....But I imagine so much weight just on the bottom could have used some weight on top, maybe half, to counter act the bottom from swinging so much. And you can't really tailor the tail movement if the body isn't right. Regardless, I'd hang that lure on my wall. Your rotisserie needs a little bit of love. Recently, I 3d printed one that uses gears, servos, and an Arduino. I can use like timing and logic. For example, lure weight isn't a factor because it adjusts the up and down pace so they're equal amount of time. Normally, the down is always a shorter time. I've also experimented with a jitter motion that works quite well. Just an idea. Looking forward to the next vid!

    here are the most wanted fish lures on this moment:
    1) a scuba diver
    2) a sturgeon
    3) a catfish
    4) a seahorse
    5) a pike or pickerel
    i dare you to pick one and make it (or, whatever, make all of em😆)
    if you agree he should make one, like so he will see this and comment which one you want or if you want another one!!!😊😊😊
    wanted baits i also see passing by:
    1)barracuda
    2)tuna
    3)squid (didn't thought of it yet)
    4)bird
    5) rat or mouse
    6) bat (i like this one)
    7)stingray
    8) gar(cool)
    9) carp
    10 a nemo-fish (clownfish)
    11) a fish eating a fish eating a fish (this would be some weird bait)
    12) topwater frog lure
    13) lizard
    14) clown knifefish (if you could make this it would be so f*cking awesome)
    15) ice fishing lure

    So friggin cool man. I swear your videos are like watching Bob Ross, lol. But yeah, I wonder if maybe if you filled the mouth cavity with clear epoxy or plastic...so that you could still see the detail of the mouth, but could shape it to cut through the water better? Also I bet if it could sink below surface, that it might would swim a little better as well. Just some thoughts! Definitely a beautiful piece as always!

    Beautiful job on the Rock Bass! Definitely too much a work of art to use as a functioning bait. You are a very patient master of this art. I enjoy watching so much. My dad used a pocket knife and sand paper and a few very crude tools to make top water baits when I was a kid in the early 1950s. He was a master of that. Most of his were replicas of Heddon lures. Crab Wigglers and Lucky 13’s were his favs. I have a few of his made in later years when he was in his 80s which are not the same as he crafted in earlier years, but are treasures to me. I’ve only been.watching for a couple of weeks so I’m going back to catch up with some of what you have done. All great and inspiring to see how you do this. I have been restoring some old lures and just learning to air brush. Keep it coming. Thanks!👍🏻🇺🇸🐡🐠🐟

  • @loonatticat
    @loonatticat 5 лет назад +5

    Since this will be a display piece, are you going to darken the mouth since it’s wide open?
    For added realism, have you considered casting fins in thinner, semi-transparent silicone or soft plastic?
    Eventually, you may tend towards hyper-realism, and cast each little scale, paint them and glue to the body...teeth...silicone gills under resin gill plates...get nutty with it, bait boy.
    Really enjoy your videos- from your techniques to your presentation, including cameos of Chip and Chelsea. Great content.

    You could make money making world record reproductions,and making molds of them.I made one of a Smallmouth Bass using a pic of Hayes holding it for a pic,and blowing it up,then tracing it out..For a long time,I didn't think they had a smallmouth bass reproduction..But then saw one eventually posted in Archie Phillips taxidermy catalog one year..I'd make world record reproductions,not lures,and get rich,by marketing yourself that way!Your lures are awesome though!I bet they don't have reproductions for them all!Take your redeye Rockbass for instance!!You could sell it as a "world record replica"!

    It’s ok the thing looks amazing regardless of it’s riding the short bus movement still has plenty of blood sweat and tears invested and your big baits like that are going to be just like all those old duck decoys that everyone foams at the mouth to find and buy and that’s something you can always be proud about so keep it up ur a joy to sit and watch always and hope ur new year is a great one

    It wouldn't be a bait, but have you ever considered carving a large fish swallowing a smaller fish, or crawfish, or other natural meal?

    Stinnett sticks on RUclips has an interesting way to create scales on snakes for his handcrafted walking sticks, the technique may be useful for you on projects like this.
    Love seeing a craftsman out of my home state! Great vids and love your humor! Cant wait for the next build!

    • @dawgletsgame7198
      @dawgletsgame7198 5 лет назад

      @@lsedanolg about the size (and even bigger) of that picture. I usually go jigging on rocky bottoms with a crappie minnows for crappies and end up getting at least 3 to 5 of them about that size. Everytime they bite it feels like you have weeds because for some odd reason in Wisconsin they don't fight. I also haven't measured or anything because in my opinion rock bass are almost as ugly as bullhead and rock bass taste nasty. I usually throw them back.

      Rock bass pretty much bite on anything where I live. My dad has caught one on a 14 inch pike colored musky rapala. They are very aggressive but don't usually give off a great fight.

    I have very little experience but I would say in making large lures like this when gluing 3 or more boards together leave a hollow void in center mass for the lead. It in theory would prevent the roll effect and still alow for good motion. Extremely nice work!

    Man this is one of your coolest lures. I live in Northern Michigan and there are literally Rock bass everywhere here it's insane. You got the colors exactly right, and i've caught/seen close to state record rock bass. I know you dont sell any lures you make but you should seriously consider doing it in the near future. i know it takes awhile to make them but im sure some people out there would pay a pretty penny for some of your lures.
