I had a good friend who got sentenced to 3 years because they found a roach in his pocket. At that time, the regular police got very into being NARCS, and breaking down doors to bust kids for a little weed. The whole thing was blown out of proportion…and the “War on Drugs” still continues to this day, at enormous cost. Thanks David, you have amazing archives, and I love that you share them.🖤🇨🇦

I was lucky. By the late 70s police in Toronto would stop and search (based on nothing more than my teenaged long hair) but if one was not obnoxious (or sadly, Black) and if it was just a joint or couple of grams of bud, they'd make me chuck it down the sewer. Hash was too easy to hide. It was getting to the point where small amounts were considered an embarrassing bust for them. I think it was a $53 ticket or a choice to fight it in court. A complete waste of police resources. By the 3rd time this happened I was pleading with the officer not to make me do it myself.

@@Alsatiagent That's about when I first started in the late seventies in Northern Ontario.. Timmins area. All there was, was hash,.. and LOTS of it... lol. In a little town outside of Timmins called South Porcupine, Ontario which was maybe 1500 to 2000 people at that time. My buddies and I would stand on a particular corner in the town that was near an arcade and sell hash by the gram. There would typically be anywhere from 2 to 10 people selling and customers would either walk up or drive up to get some from one of us. All of us would regularly go through about a quarter pound withing 3 or 4 hours a night. It was just unreal the amount of hash that was flowing through that one spot. Looking back on it, it was amazing the supply and the quality of the hash back then was pretty damn good. You of course would run into GARBAGE every once in a while. But for the years I lived in that town whoever brought it in (bikers I'm assumming) had one hell of a consistent supplier... lol.

I have been 'a despicable' since 1970. My dad called it "taking the pot". Tried it my first semester in college and, at 70 I am a "despicable" to this day. My favorite story is getting arrested in the 80s for smoking a joint in the parking lot with 3 other people at a reggae concert. We were charged with "Criminal loitering for the express purpose of buying, selling or using narcotics." The Pot is now legal in our state and I've even told my grandson about my arrest. My sister went to the John Sinclair concert in Michigan. The old views as represented in this video really shows the prejudice we were up against.

We spent a great deal of our days off in the city getting high and attending rock concerts at the filmore , avalon , and winterland . the police in San Fran were pretty mellow as smoking weed was done by everyone from hippies to guys in 3 piece business suits . The cops pretty much ignored what was going on.

My jazz drummer dad, who had been smoking weed since the 1950's, recently quit. He said that decriminalizing it took a bit of the "fun" out of it.
I first tried weed when I was about 13. An on duty police sargeant who was a friend of my mom's then-fiancé, rolled up in his patrol car, and produced a joint out of his uniform pocket as he stepped through the door. His advice to me, "If you want the best weed in town, be a cop. If you want the freshest weed in town, join the coast guard..". Several years later, this officer finally got busted for taking too much cocaine from the evidence room. He wasn't leaving enough for the other cops, so they ratted him out, basically...

In 2011 when my father was dying of cancer, the nurses at the clinic he was going to for chemo asked us if we could get and give our Father some marijuana, as he was suffering so much from nausea from the chemo. We did have that option, although in my state it still is illegal, even for end of life care. He refused it as he felt it wasn't something his Dr's or nurses would ever recommend. We told him they did. But he refused, he was of a generation where that was considered evil. He suffered so much, and perhaps that would have helped him. Medical Marijuana needs to be legalized, plain and simple. And as far as I'm concerned, if you want to smoke it recreationally, so be it. Grew up as a teenager in the early 70's, was no stranger to that!

Very interesting thank you! I'm an occasional pot smoker and the way I see it is i treat it like booze, specifically whiskey. If I fancy a joint I pretend it's whiskey and ask myself
Would now be an appropriate time to have it ?
If the awnser is no, like it's still morning, I'm on my own and it'll be boring or I have something important to do today I leave it be.
Much nicer to smoke in the garden with my boyfriend

The #1 rated business in my town is a weed shop. It was rated against restaurants, goods stores, pubs, a brewery, etc…
They give lots of money to our town, and school district, lots of good people frequent there and it’s a cornerstone of the community….

@joejoe7434 what school district? Not ours. Ours is good with the kids, all sorts of programs and dependable people to run them, also, with small communities, most of the faculty working for the district also have children in attendance. So B.S. gets shut down pretty quickly….

people tryna tell other people how to freedom and ruining their lives over some grass
    bunch of pharisees
i got arrested and put on paper for 18 months in my early 20s for one marijuana cigarette
    now I'm 50
    i got my weed card
i go to a weed store
i have choices of strains and modes of ingesting
when i was a kid after school hiding behind the air handler on the side of the house trying to get high with a couple of friends and my dog before our parents started getting home from work you could not have convinced me i would ever be walking in a place of business and shopping for weed like i do cheese or steaks 🤣
    perfectly legal
    zero worries
and all the cool kids are still doing it

... so much judgment by older people altering their minds with legal alcohol consumption, which was known at the time to be very addictive and cause great physical harm when overused. To me, our national war on Marijuana use has been a terrible public policy that's ruined many lives and wasted government resources that could have been put to a good purpose.
