    Video games were an entirely new medium back in the early 1980's so there wasn't any legal framework regarding infringement. And once companies saw the enormous profit potential coupled with the lack of legal protection, they naturally took advantage of it until it was no longer possible to do so. Thanks for the video my friend, good stuff indeed!👍 👍

    I’m surprised Hyper Pacman didn’t make it onto the list, probably one of the better knock offs in history

    At 8:20 that was not K.C. Munchkin, it was the sequel of it called K.C.'s Crazy Chase. There was a huge difference in the two games, the first game was more the clone which went to court.

    The early footage got my mouth wide open... because I definitely saw people use screenshots and footage of Konami "Space King 2" AS Space Invaders. I was wondering what was that colored version... Turns out it's a completely different game.

    Actually Galaxian NOT Galaga was a direct rip off of Space Invaders. Gorf (even though Midway Owned the American distribution rights to Galaxian and Space Invaders) utilized clone ports of Space Invaders and Galaxian to their game. Also you forgot about Popeye Pacman.

    I found a Pop Man machine in a sub sandwich shop in Mesa AZ in late 1981, cabinet had the screen verticle not angled like most other arcade game. Scores for eating ghosts and pellets was double, the maze had two side exits each side, and the ghosts had japanese names. Had no time to explore and find who made that but that is the one clone I saw.

    Lock n chase was cool, yes a rip off of Pacman, but enough differences to stave off any lawsuits.

    if you really think about it (and the developers acknowledge this), wolf3d is a pacman clone, and doom is a pacman clone, so all doom clones would be pacman clones.

    Pac-Man clones even made it to home computers. I owned MunchMan for the TI-99/4A. Instead of gobbling dots, you link chains in a similar Pac-Man type maze. You have creatures.(that changes every level) called Hoonoos, which you gobble Texas-shaped power pellets (remember it was Texas Instruments that developed the TI-99/4A) to gobble Hoonoos the exact same way as ghosts, with Hoonoos blinking colors to warn you they will no longer be safe for gobbling just like the ghosts on Pac-Man. By 1983 Pac-Man made it on the TI-99/4A.

    Good video, but you showed the wrong game in the KC Munchkin segment. You showed the sequel/replacement to munchkin called KC's Crazy Chase instead of the original.

      Oh Shit! is the funniest of them all. Just a bunch of Dutch guys thought it would be a perfect idea to make a nearly-identical clone of Pac-Man on the MSX (which already had an official port by Namco), with the major difference being the lack of ghost AI and well... swearing Pac-Man :D This voice sample is of ridiculously good quality for a base MSX1 model.

    Crazy Otto is not a copy, is the original mis.pacman, Hackers modified the game and the creators, seeing potential instead of suing them, won the permissions thus making mis.pacman

    • @philipdefibaugh5683
      @philipdefibaugh5683 Год назад

      Yes I have played it back in 81-82 at Patony's Pizza. It was on a cabaret cab and had no pacman graphics, just a plain lit Popeye Pacman. The game is the exact including the intermission screen except Pacman was replaced by a yellow POPEYE!

    Konami made clones of somebody's else games and then they were suing others for making similar games they made. Hypocrisy capitalist pig level.
