Hi Richard, No, luckily the coil packs do not need coding like the injectors. Which makes it great for identifying miss-fires. Although this car didn't have a continual issue, the plugs and coils seem to have fixed what it was doing on the highway. In reality, it's amazing the coils that were in it lastedso long.
Not a silly question at all. My take is generally the coils should be changed when you start having problems. If you experience a miss, or rough idle those and the plugs are normally the cause. This car did over 200,000ks on the stock coils. So they are not a regular maintenance item.
So I just got my 325i a couple days ago and went to oreilly for a diagnostic scan and there was a misfire in cylinder one and just replaced that myself today but check engine light is still on. Then it says something about intake camshaft position timing- over retarded (that’s a weird name) 😭 but could that second reason be why my cars power keeps shutting down on the road?
Hi guys great video, just wondering as you didn’t do it in the video. Do the coil packs need coding like the injectors?

Been binging on your videos, love the content😊
Thanks Pete, appreciate the support!
Hi,
I've thge same model but I have different UI on dash. Have you updated it or something?
My N52 is having some very rough misfires, assumed to be coils. So of course I'm watching a zero to 60 episode on it haha
maybe stupid question, but it's better to ask (haha): should I change coils every oil service or not? (if not, how often).
