About 35 years ago I was fishing the South Jettie at Ponce Inlet and got. 2 oz. Pyramid sinker stuck in some rock about 50 feet out. I pulled on the line to break it off but it came loose and that sinker came launching outta the water like a Polaris Missle going about 200 MPH and it and it hit me right square in my right knee cap. Yeah..... That hurt.
Jeez can't imagine. I've been pretty nervous trying to pull a 4oz sinker loose with full mono. Switching to braid now so I don't have to worry about that haha
Yeah I never pull straight up for that reason I always want the water to absorb the energy from whatever is on that line or even the line itself I had that happen too if there is tall grass, bushes or a tree definitely stand behind that. Some people don’t want to be looked at weird but you will be looked at a lot more weird with an eye missing
Wish I knew this 30 years ago when I used to fish the jetties underneath both the Whitestone Bridge and Throgsneck Bridge in NY. Always got my stuff stuck. You have to cut the line and lose your lures and everything. Rats were huge and the currents unforgiving!
How do you suppose to know the correct depth? or Do I just go out there, put on a slip bobber and bam, I’m automatically not getting snagged and my bait is just right off the bottom.
But how do you fight the current? It's very rocky at a big spillway I go to, but obviously there's a very strong current. Even lures I've tried get stuck in the rocks.
Are you gonna focus on ocean city for a summer or keep going around the country? I remember when I met you at the jetty small talk you had maybe 20k or 10k subs and you were making videos on stuff similar to this, but also to this day I have all your original knot tying videos saved on my old account ahd I just miss the old school let find a random spot and see if you could catch fish like by bridge at Hannah’s or i don’t think you’re done an assateague in s while. Maybe try stinky beach or the hole by MR Ducks
What he's failing to explain is that you need a 10'-12' rod to get a 3'-4' leader for this to work. If you have a 7'-8' rod, your leader won't be long enough to get to the bottom.
It works just fine, we use a 7 foot rod and any leader length you want, a shorter leader will make it easy to see when the fish bites. The advantage of a slip float is you can set it whatever depth you want, I’ve even fished 40 feet deep with a slip bobber.
@@1BigMistakee because you put a small bead above the slip bobber.. and you set the little string knots that come with the beads to whatever depth you want.. the knots are small enough to reel on spool and cast but they stop the beads and slip bobber when it sinks that far
@@1BigMistakeeI should make a video about my slip bobber setup for fishing jetties. You get a string bobber stop that can be tightened anywhere on the line to the depth you want to fish. I usually fish lingcod and rockfish with a slip bobber. If the water is dirty I use a short leader (less than a foot) and fish very close to the bottom, and if the water is clear I use a longer leader (2 to 3 feet) and keep the lead weight further off the bottom. Good luck!
I use something in moving streams called a flex-o-drop sinker. It has a swivel at one end, you run it like a fish finder with a small jig or some bait. Its essentially a pipe cleaner filled with shot so it undulates like a snake. It almost never hangs up unless you pause and it drops into a snag. Otherwise it scoots over them. Which is where the fish are.

Not to mention you probably want to keep your presentation much higher off bottom if it’s that rocky … 2 foot above the top of the rocks . Fish feed up . But they won’t find it in the rocks
Np! If you found this helpful you gotta check out my website, I custom make a ton of gear to help you with your next fishing trip! www.heyskipperfishing.com 🤗
Problem comes with current… nothing worse then fishing with strong current and your bobber gets sucked all the way across the bridge/river in 1 second… anyone have any solutions? I fish a really rock bridge, bites always great, but too many snags for shrimp forced to use artificial swim baits to stay off bottom.
I avoid where the current is strongest, my best catches are at the edge of the current spill. Carolina rigged live shrimp is my go to. Avoid current that is pulling the bait towards you. I try to target where the bait might be pooling. Rarely get snagged but it will happen eventually. if you're using a bobber in current make sure you have some type of weight holding the bait straight(jig head/splitshot)
It seems a great idea, but could you be more clear about measures? How long should the line after de sinker be so that it works? And what's the approximate distance from the float to the sinker?

Wish I knew this earlier this week. I had been fighting a rock and the rivers currents for an hour thinking I had a fish😢😂. Till some guy came along and broke the news to me
I thought that was the point of the sinker to begging with? To get the line to sink, but mot enough that it touches the bottom. Hard part for me is knowing what weight will do. lol i fished maybe twice in my life. And bobbers are kinda the same except they float and give visual feed back to the fisher, and from above instead of below. To help, understand my dumb ass… i think of them as pulleys lol no matter, bait has to stay at eye level of fish. So if they seek bugs on surface, bobber? If they eat at floor a sinker? Reminder, I’m no fisher lol

Probably good advice, but I'll have to look up the setup somewhere else because it skipped over it too quick for me.
He has a full length video on his channel
Been doing this for 30 years. It also keeps the crabs from stealing baits.
secret for not getting hung up on the bottom: not fishing the bottom hahaha. using a float. who would have thought lmao
People who've never fished wouldn't have thought, hence the video. No one knows everything, especially going into a new hobby.

The best part of this video was when he showed how to rig the slip sinker bobber rig. Amazing......
There's literally a picture showing what it is..
I must have missed that part.

@@wesleypipesgaming19I guess that person also needed sign language with the video😂
The only question I have is how long are the lead lines from the Bober to the weight to the hook
I’m blown away how many people didn’t know about this. Difference between hobbyist and fisherman definitely 😂😂
I love those Thills. I've caught thousands of fish like that. It's my number one rig. 👍
Maybe I'm completely wrong but I believe those rocks were placed there to stop erosion and the bottom you're fishing could be totally different
I stopped fishing off jetties after I fell and gashed my head open.

wow this man just literally rediscovered -bicycle- float fishing.
Use a bobber setup like you would us on steelhead in the PNW and you can adjust the length of the leader with a bobber knot
😊
I know it works, but i still dont understand how the weight doesnt just slide to the hook
In uk we call it slider float method. Float stopped by a stop knot at predetermined depth.
slip floats, popper/splasher floats, "clacker" float rigs, floating splash or popper plug lure with light dropper jig.. yeah !
What's that combo you set up
Don't onow why i was expecting a mackerel but i got excited when i saw the trout. Damn good eating!
That's a jetty bro... Rocks don't go all the way out in the ocean😅😅😅
this is great when you know the depth. In high currents where there is variable depth a presentation like this won't be very successful.
I tried this. it worked great. I drew a fish in water with a shrimp as bait. No matter how I drew it, my rig didn't het hung up.
Been doing it for years works great
How do you suppose to know the correct depth? or Do I just go out there, put on a slip bobber and bam, I’m automatically not getting snagged and my bait is just right off the bottom.

Hey, Thanks for the Info. That will save me a lot of money.
But how did you make your lure float? Attach something light near the hook???
I like using it for rivers
since the jettys are so irregular, how do you set the bobber up consjdering the shrimp sinks into the cracks also
Popping cork: am I a joke to you
used to happen to me all the time as a kid when I would go fishing by naval base in mayport florida nothing but rocks
