My main concern with PSA is the issue of them messing up their grades (higher than deserved) and damaging cards submitted for grading. They don't even answer submitters' concerns or refund for damaging people's cards when it's clear they damaged thrm. PSA is getting away by being too big and people not accepting anything else.

Also, the reason there's no perfect 10 SIR Charizards is because they don't do that score anymore, they don't do "Perfect" 10's anymore, the highest is Pristine 10.

@@Rub3nAlexanderI prefer CGC. Much better slab as you mentioned. I do miss the old blue labels but the black ones are growing on me. Reason I went for CGC in the first place is because to me I see PSA as being more for sports cards. I do own some PSA sports cards and once I got my first CGC card I could really feel the difference. Plus the label looks much more cool. Anesthetics matter. I collect slabbed Zubats by the way 😅

I think you'll find CGC Pristine 10 sell for more then a PSA 10 on average.
PSA is the legacy company therefore the defactco industry standard and for many the standard for their collection uniformity.
However I believe this is slowly changing for Pokemon cards, as CGC is more affordable and has the possibility of a Pristine 10, which typically have a higher monetary return than Gem Mint 10. Also PSA has more lawsuits against them from clients/ customers than CGC, which to my knowledge currently doesnt have any. Which may also just be a byproduct of having a larger customer base.
Most newer collectors are building their collection uniformity around CGC and in perhaps 10-15 years from now if this trend continues, it could be the defacto standard for Pokemon collectors collection uniformity, and continue perpetually until it eclipses PSA.
CGC will need to start grading packs, sealed items, and coins if they really want to draw in the uniformity crowd. Right now they grade a few things that PSA doesnt like certain types of error cards. Which for anyone looking to have their vintage error cards labeled, CGC becomes the defacto grading company for any collector looking for uniformity.

i've only JUST started collecting a couple graded cards, and i started getting cgc cards. they're cheaper, sure, but the bigger reason was that the label just looks way nicer. plus, you can buy the regular 10, or you can get the 'fancy' 10. both feel nice to own, the pristine is just a little 'extra'. regular 10 is comfortably cheaper without feeling like you cheaped out or something. while with psa, it's 9 or 10. 9 is usually much cheaper but it's like it's constantly saying 'haha you couldn't afford a 10 lol', and 10 is just 'yep best grade you can get in this.'
cgc it is for me. but i'm not opposed to picking up psa if it's cheaper or if it's just an investment buy. but for my personal collection, the looks matter a lot

I wish PSA would be more transparent with their grades. I know they don’t offer subgrabes but knowing what reasons a card came back with a lower grade would be nice. You often see a batch submission to PSA come back with mostly 8-10 grades and a random 5 or 6 that appears to have no real significant flaws.

Great video Danny but I would be weary of posting buy it now listings around Christmas and using that as a price guideline. People wayyy overpay on buy it now for Christmas shopping. Plus people get confused with CGC cards about Pristine/Gem Mint so I am sure some people are accidentally paying Pristine price for Gem Mint. I mean what do you expect? PSA is the market leader currently, but the tide is changing direction. I personally think PSA is meh, their slabs are stupid cheap feeling, and worse yet they have zero UV protection. Isn't preservation the point of encapsulation? PSA also has way longer lead times, and it costs more. I personally have PSA and CGC slabs, but for my own grading I use CGC exclusively for now. Also CGC 10 Pristine trumps PSA all day long.

First allow me to say that you are a king among men Danny! Bless you for always caring and doing what you can to help the community! You are amazing!
CGC has the lower value because they are no longer reputable and it's only going to get worse as more shady business practice information comes out ( like tipping off people pre 9.5 becoming 10's).
PSA sadly is just so well known and recognized that they command a higher dollar value. I say sadly as the group I'm in has had many horrific experiences with them from them damaging multiple cards to incompetent graders. Something they graded for a group member was graded as a 7 and it was cracked and subbed to BGS and received a 10. PSA is trash.
BGS is just too expensive and only desired for their black labels.
AGS would actually be my favourite but grading with them even if you get 10's adds next to nothing in value over raw and certainly not enough to cover the grading fees. Sad as they are probably the best grading company by far but will likely go out of business.
Thanks for the great info as always!

Ever since I found out PSA deliberately downgrade some cards to protect their populations I've had issues with them. I get they're the more "sought after" but in terms of business practices I'm not about it. Doesn't help I've seen a couple of badly damaged cards come back from them which were mint when they were shipped to them...

If it is like this, is it possible to buy CGC 10 and crack it open, submit it to PSA to get 10, and then resell it? Repeat, and profit?

    • @aheadatime
      @aheadatime 10 месяцев назад

Not a viable strategy. You have to pay PSA for grading, and wait months to get your card back. Between the cost of grading, the shipping costs, and the cards fluctuating in value over the months it takes to get it back, you have no idea if you'll profit or not. On top of that, a CGC 10 might not be a PSA 10. Alot of people experience PSA giving weird grading. They'll grade some cards a 10 that aren't 10s, and some cards 8-9 that are clearly 10s.

Hey bro loved just loved chilling watching this content. I still haven't graded anything yet I'm getting a small bundle together over time so I can do them all at once to save some coin! Can't wait to see what happens when I send them off . I might take you suggestion and try the three big companies first.

PSA is definitely the more popular grading company which is why their value is so much higher. However I like that CGC is trying to separate themselves with the pristine label. Regardless pop control in the PSA market is what upsets me. I see them grading some cards a 10 that should be an 8-9 and grading some a 9 that should be a 10. Human error with grading is real, but I think PSA does show favoritism to those who send in a lot of cards.
BGS is by far the worst when it comes to pop control and favoritism.
