Towner is such an exquisite Composer! His style is so recognizable - the harmonic twists, modulations, and mysterious melodies that lead you down some dark corridors, and back into the opaque light. And SO Nice to hear him on Piano (his 1st Instrument)! 3 things I am Thankful for: Paul Winter giving Ralph such a prominent platform in his "Consort", Manfred Eicher of ECM....for recognizing Towner's Gifts, and allowing him so much Freedom to explore them! - and ... for the Impromptu, private lesson he gave me many years ago - at his home in Seattle.

Clearly the lads don't play this music for fame, fortune or adulation. They do it for the love of music and the atmospheres and impressions that can be created therein.
    I'm very glad they did.
    Thanks for the post.

this is EXACTLY the way I feel about Ralph Towner. He could have written the most mainstream music in his life (his compositional skills are insane) but he is an uncompromising artist and made the music he wanted to make his whole career. I hold in the highest esteem as a composer...literally on a level with the greatest of all time.
