Just had to come back over to this video to say I started reading Journey to the River Sea because of your recommendation. I'm a little over halfway through and am really enjoying it. Maia is such an angel. I thought the story might encourage me through our time in Florida (I don't like hot weather😂). I love the line where Maia reads in the book, "For whether a place is a hell or a heaven rests in yourself, and those who go with courage and an open mind may find themselves in Paradise." I'm trying to keep that in mind during this sweltering summer! I'm so glad I picked up this book as my first Eva Ibbotson read.❤
Wow your Florida trip sounds amazing!!! Journey to the River Sea made it's way to my TBR. It sounds like such a great summer read. I've been reading the Book of Bayern Series by Shannon Hale and I recently finished Summer Pudding by Susan Scarlett (who is really Noel Streatfeild) I've been reading her books lately and have become enchanted. I can't wait to see your vlogs of your Florida adventures. It was really fun to watch a vacation reading wrap-up! 📚🌴
Some of my family from here Massachusetts moved to Florida years ago. Great wrap up..i hwve many works of Jane Austen and i hwvent read her work yet but im aure ill love them. Looks lovely there. 📚🪁🍄🥤🌻🌈
Thank you for this lovely video, Emma! I read Journey to the River Sea a couple months ago and I loved it too! The corset scene cracks me up. I love Miss Minton too! I bought an illustrated copy of it because I loved it so much.
I love Miss Minton! 💕💕💕 Have you read Dragonfly Pool? Oooo! Love the Shakespeare/Austen comparisons. 😄 Harry Potter stuff at Universal looks so fun, Emma! Can’t wait to see more.
Aww I’m soo glad you liked Journey to the River Sea ❤ it was my first Eva Ibbotson book and also my first venture into British literature 📚 I’m definitely in due for a re-read! Your Florida trip looks soo much fun! I honestly feel too scared to ride the Tron ride but I love it’s look so much I may have to give it a go one day 😁
Journey to the River Sea sounds so interesting, I think I will pick that one up. Based on what you have said I think it would fit well with some feeling I have been having about the world right now
When you mentioned pop culture references that don't land after 200 years, I just read a book published in 2014 and I even forgot the pop culture references there, written only 10 years ago. 😂
@@BookishPrincess the really funny thing is that I'm reading a book written in 1986. And I'm getting the pop culture references THERE BETTER than the book written in 2014! How's that for irony? 😂
This looks like such a fun summer vacation, Emma! Would love a video on your dresses! 😍 We’ll be headed to Disney next month for our honeymoon and we’ve been toying with the idea of a day at Universal, so it’s great to see you enjoying it!
Thanks Alley! I ended up including the dress deets in my substack post, although I filmed lots of vlogs I'm sure I'll be getting around to editing at some point. Ohh, a Disney honeymoon will be so fun, hope you have an amazing time!! I am so glad we got to experience Universal - I think if you're super into thrill rides and don't get motion sick, you'd probably enjoy it even more, but I still loved wandering around and getting to know the place.
I own all the Harry Potter books (hardcovers and British paperbacks) but have yet to read past book 1! I need to make it a point to read them. I just can't seem to motivate myself. Thanks so much for sharing your vacation, Emma! Really enjoyed the video. Barbara
Thanks Barbara! I read the first three or four Harry Potter books - for the later books in the series I might have only seen the movies. 🙈 But it'd be fun to revisit sometime!
If your struggling reading the Harry Potter series, try playing the Harry Potter music/ ambiance videos found on RUclips while you read them. It helps set the mood and makes you really feel like you are at Hogwarts!
Thanks! 😊 A Midsummer Night's Dream is so much fun and quite a quick read, I'd definitely recommend it. Magnificat is just lovely, I always feel better when I take the time to do the readings and prayers every day.
I love your comments on Elinor, especially the idea of her learning a bit of sympathy. I hadn't really thought about that aspect of her character and found it interesting to think about. How was your time in Florida? We're still living here for the next several months, and the heat is getting to me.😂 I wear flowy dresses every day to beat the heat, and it seems like you do as well from your videos!❤
It was fun but sooo hot, I was definitely happy to duck into the air conditioning frequently, but flowy dresses help a bit! Hope you're beating the heat and staying cool! I saw a lot of people in the parks with those fans that you wear around your neck, but I feel like they would just make me more hot and sweaty, lol.
1. Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish 2. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen 3. Merchants of Virtue (The Huguenot Connection Book One) by Paul C.R. Monk 4. The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe 5. Jane Austen in Real Life: A Life in Small Things by Paula Byrne 6. Charlotte by Helen Moffett Just like last year, I read books that aren't Jane Austen related as well Jane Austen reads.
Thanks! Several of the dresses I wore on this trip were from an etsy shop called Mr. Waters New York - I love their styles. 😍 That blue butterfly dress towards the end was a sales find at the Kate Spade outlet. I've also had good luck searching for retro/vintage dresses on Amazon.
@@BookishPrincess I bought a couple of skirts and dresses like yours because they were ao beautiful and the compliments they get! I still struggle with wearing dresses, but your style is very classic and beautiful that I want to wear dresses more, but struggle with how I look in them.
Marianne to Elinor: "I compare [my conduct] to what it ought to have been. I compare it to yours." So good.😊
Yes, I love that line!

Thanks for watching! Ohh I didn't know there was an illustrated version, I will have to look that up!
Wow, that Tron ride definitely fits right in with Tomorrow Land.
It was so cool, such a great addition to Tomorrowland!
❤❤❤
✨✨✨
Love dress😊
I love Miss Minton! 💕💕💕 Have you read Dragonfly Pool? Oooo! Love the Shakespeare/Austen comparisons. 😄 Harry Potter stuff at Universal looks so fun, Emma! Can’t wait to see more.
Miss Minton just can't be beat!! I did read Dragonfly Pool a few years ago, it was so charming as well. 😍
I read SANDITION and other stories in a collection for my first Jane Austen July

Lake Okeechobee! Such a beautiful lake! Maybe one year I'll go back to my homestate and see its beauty again!
It was so much fun exploring Florida during our trip, the Everglades was beautiful!

😂 Pop culture references don't age too well in books!
@@BookishPrincess the really funny thing is that I'm reading a book written in 1986. And I'm getting the pop culture references THERE BETTER than the book written in 2014! How's that for irony? 😂
I'm so bad with more modern pop culture references - half the time I have no idea what people are talking about. 😂
I rediscovered Grace Livingston Hill recently and am reading Coming through the Rye I believe it is called about Prohibition

Really enjoyed watching your vlog. I love your sense of style 🤩 the print on your dresses! I'm about to start Sense and Sensibility.
Thanks!! Hope you enjoy S&S, it's so good!
Sad to say, I haven't read A Midsummer Night's Dream yet :). I love the Magnificat, too. Lovely to see you're enjoying your vacation.

Would you consider listing where you get them?
