Wonderful! I played alto, bass, and contrabass clarinets in high school. Is it true that these early clarinets weren't able to play in the chalumeau register and that the chalumeau wasn't able to play in the clarion either?

Your second statement is true! The first is not, however the Baroque clarinet's chalumeau register is really out of tune, so Molter rarely uses it.
