    This is the most impressive sweep that you hardly see anywhere. In Capoeira it's "Vingativa" and in Tomiki Aikido it's "Gedan Ate" or "Gyaku Gamae Ate." Thanks for walking through it so clearly!

      @@thecubeman381 It's like a sukui nage with an upper body trap and twist instead of a leg grab. Could this be the new no leg grab kata guruma?

      @@austin9693 Kind of a mix between sukui nage and tani otoshi, but without the drop.

      @@edwhlam Yeah, tani otoshi upper body, sukui nage lower body. Judo looks like the go-to system for throws, but no single system covers everything. Cross training is important.

    jeff is great, this sweep is great and its been in traditional martial arts for over 100 years.
    Its in the second shotokan kata, its in basic taekwondo forms, others say its in capoeira and yet so few people use it.
    ell done jeff you the man, breaking rules because others cant!

    You know what's interesting is tons of traditional arts use similar sweep. Although Jeff has mastered actual practical application, entry & execution.

    One of my absolute favorite sweeps in aikido. I’m gunna try to get my foot on the other side of the far foot and really focus on that power. I think that’s what I’m missing

    Jeff said he can make people do a back flip. Challenge for Jeff: do a hip sweep (make them do backflip) and follow up with either a side kick or back kick, before they touch the ground. Would be a legendary combo! 😂

      A matter of fact that’s exactly one of the defensive techniques /escape if you’re quick enough mentally. Part of the Capoeira roda this technique in this video is called vingativa and a cartwheel/au or backflip or macaco a one arm backhand spring and it saved me a many of times

    terrific presentation and cool technique. Seems like the hand and arm position when engaging the sweep is important but there was not a lot of discussion on that aspect

    This technique is found in various fighting styles around the world. I practice Chinese arts, and this is a common move in Cheng style Bagua as well.

    Kevin should know the "diamond" shaped stepping...it's like the wooden dummy plume step that goes out and back in on the centerline opening the flank up.

    Obviously coach. I'm huge fan of all your content. But it seems like over the years I have my favorite "Jeff Chan movements". You're 1-2 to a low kick is always beautiful. Your shoots are extremely fast and smooth, and i'm going to have to add this one. You make a look easy. :))

    my personal favorite move : ) and this is a basic "takedown" in Capoeira : D buut shhhh, dont tell anyone because people should still think that Capoeira dont work in the fight hehehe : D

    Hey guys, checkout the Sweep done by Guto in his fight against Verhoeven .
    The sweep itself is illegal in K1 but it was legendary and sent a giant beast spinning in the air.

    I do something similar but I set it up with a low kick. Then when the opponent raises his leg to check the low kick I sweep back standing leg. I forget which pro fighter I got it from

      You could possibly back step out of there. Or you could use your foot to hook the attackers foot/leg and take a very low stance. But remember, vingativa usually comes at a high speed.

    The movement is more of a parabolic fling, it has to be to fool your apponent as it is kinda fein, your apponent is not sure what U gonna do next, it's clever ...😊😮

    This technique is not new at all. It is a very nice one and I know it from Karate. Gichin Funakoshi depicted it in one of his books back in the 1920s.
