This is the most impressive sweep that you hardly see anywhere. In Capoeira it's "Vingativa" and in Tomiki Aikido it's "Gedan Ate" or "Gyaku Gamae Ate." Thanks for walking through it so clearly!
@@edwhlam Yeah, tani otoshi upper body, sukui nage lower body. Judo looks like the go-to system for throws, but no single system covers everything. Cross training is important.
jeff is great, this sweep is great and its been in traditional martial arts for over 100 years. Its in the second shotokan kata, its in basic taekwondo forms, others say its in capoeira and yet so few people use it. ell done jeff you the man, breaking rules because others cant!
Kevin out here casually dropping he trained with Nong-O like it's no big deal! I'd say he's lucky but it's definitely because of hard work and these masters recognizing his humility and eagerness to learn.
This is great!!! We have the same type of sweep in our system. Coach Jeff has pressure tested this drill and has used it in so many fights. Great job 🤙
One of my absolute favorite sweeps in aikido. I’m gunna try to get my foot on the other side of the far foot and really focus on that power. I think that’s what I’m missing
Jeff said he can make people do a back flip. Challenge for Jeff: do a hip sweep (make them do backflip) and follow up with either a side kick or back kick, before they touch the ground. Would be a legendary combo! 😂
A matter of fact that’s exactly one of the defensive techniques /escape if you’re quick enough mentally. Part of the Capoeira roda this technique in this video is called vingativa and a cartwheel/au or backflip or macaco a one arm backhand spring and it saved me a many of times
terrific presentation and cool technique. Seems like the hand and arm position when engaging the sweep is important but there was not a lot of discussion on that aspect
You and Jeff need to watch when Guto Innocente does a version of this of Rico Verhoven, he just throws sends a 250pound monster flying with it. It's during a Glory kickboxing fight.
Kevin should know the "diamond" shaped stepping...it's like the wooden dummy plume step that goes out and back in on the centerline opening the flank up. Thx for sharing.
Obviously coach. I'm huge fan of all your content. But it seems like over the years I have my favorite "Jeff Chan movements". You're 1-2 to a low kick is always beautiful. Your shoots are extremely fast and smooth, and i'm going to have to add this one. You make a look easy. :))
my personal favorite move : ) and this is a basic "takedown" in Capoeira : D buut shhhh, dont tell anyone because people should still think that Capoeira dont work in the fight hehehe : D good video guys : )
Hey guys, checkout the Sweep done by Guto in his fight against Verhoeven . The sweep itself is illegal in K1 but it was legendary and sent a giant beast spinning in the air.
I do something similar but I set it up with a low kick. Then when the opponent raises his leg to check the low kick I sweep back standing leg. I forget which pro fighter I got it from
There's a reason why it very rarely gets used, though. So many people see it coming and just back up. Or, they just keep throwing high shots to block your advance.
@@KevinLeeVlog hey:) Thx for replying and great vid Jeff's on the MOVE this past month ! Sorry to be a pain in the as*... but can u list them im curious as well to see what ur combining ? Also - do u know how many Jeff knows?
You could possibly back step out of there. Or you could use your foot to hook the attackers foot/leg and take a very low stance. But remember, vingativa usually comes at a high speed.
WOW after coming back from Judo, I now know the name of this throw!! It seems to be very similar to the Obi-Otoshi edit: leaving kodokan's explaination -> ruclips.net/video/ff8U2TVZIYI/видео.html
The movement is more of a parabolic fling, it has to be to fool your apponent as it is kinda fein, your apponent is not sure what U gonna do next, it's clever ...😊😮

Why is this a sweep and not a block?
I wonder that how to defend the"hip sweep".
@@ryanandbenny7198 My guess would be closing distance before they're able to go the full distance before they can build up enough momentum
Wow, this is excellent! Jeff is giving away his secrets 😯
Thank you coach!! Jeff is very generous to share this!

It looks a little similar to Sukui Nage in Judo.
You know it’s good when so many systems do the same!
@@thecubeman381 It's like a sukui nage with an upper body trap and twist instead of a leg grab. Could this be the new no leg grab kata guruma?
@@austin9693 Kind of a mix between sukui nage and tani otoshi, but without the drop.

It was definitely an honor to learn from Nong-O!!

Great move! Varga also does this throw BUT with 1 or no steps... up close! I can't wait for you 3 to get together!
I gotta ask him next!!
You know what's interesting is tons of traditional arts use similar sweep. Although Jeff has mastered actual practical application, entry & execution.

These two guys are so similar, so humble and both very unorthodox fighting styles and moves❤️
I like Jeff. He keeps learning and teaching himself new moves. Nice to see his ongoing progress. I think he's better at teaching now as well. ;)
Great Guys!! Well-managed, luv the collab and Chan's sweeps and head movement

Super cool to see how he sets it up!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

If Jeff does that, he'll be as cool as Demetrious Johnson with his mid-air armbar.

This is extremely effective. 100% on the setup. Congrats.

Was wondering about this. Very helpful. Great details
Mate his hip sweep is fantastic and I think if you can do it you can do the crazy distance kick he does

This technique is found in various fighting styles around the world. I practice Chinese arts, and this is a common move in Cheng style Bagua as well.

That was kind of close to the one from the capoeira video you did a couple of months back! The vengeance one I think it was called.
This technique is very common in Sanda. 👍👍👍

It's not, though.
Many people learn this sweep, but very few can make it work.
In Capoiera this move is called “Vingativa”

control the hip

You can also do this sweep of the jab

Is this legal in Muay Thai
This technique is not new at all. It is a very nice one and I know it from Karate. Gichin Funakoshi depicted it in one of his books back in the 1920s.

Yes is legal, muay Thai fighters use it all the time
One question, how to do this sweep against a southpaw?
Maybe switch stances before going out
I learned this in capoeira and used it amongst other techniques to those who say it’s not a real martial arts
