We have two different custom harvest company’s in northern lower Michigan they each run 4-5 claas choppers not sure what sizes buts it amazing how quick they can get stuff done.
Our local Claas dealer is the proud owner of the 30000th Claas Jaguar chopper. I believe it’s a 980 model, but it’s all black and is numbered a Jaguar 30000. We own a J980, and it really moves through the fields with alfalfa.
That’s insane to see a chopper move that fast! My buddy’s 5288 was turned up at the pump and still don’t think it had 200hp and 3-4 mph you knew the chopper and dump cart were there, those guys look to be chopping 10mph at times if not more
i thought i seen a video on here that said claas was doing away with that big mower they had also i seen at the farm show one year claas had a chopper they had twin inline 6 's in it did they go to the v12 to get away from the twin 6's or still offer it
It has to chop lots of material into small pieces, and in the case of corn, crack all of the kernels too and then shoot the material into a truck, all while maintaining a speed of 4-10 mph
It is amazing to see how harvesting has changed. The 5ft tractor mower was a big jump from the horse drawn mower and the horse drawn from a hand sickle. It will be interesting to see where the tech goes from here. Thank you for watching.
The tracked Jaguar is longer than a wheeled one. Mark from Claas mentions the extension plate when he shows the service area inside the chopper during the video.
This farm had a John Deere chopper that went down so they called a neighbor with this 990. Unfortunately the weather was hot and dry. Sometimes you just have to roll and get the crop in. Claas, Krone, Deere Or New Holland all would have loss because of the dry crop.
5th and/or 6th cutting of alfalfa is usually in the hot part of the year and when the yield is lower since the crop is preparing for winter. That’s just an average end of the year cutting.

The next step is 1,000 hp choppers. Krone is already there with their model 1100 Big X. New Holland, Claas and Deere are almost there.

The farm I work for swear by claas chopper's have had one for the past 20 years from a 850 to now a 2018 980 that thing can eat up some feed.

I remember when Class big chopper in our area was the pull type with it's own motor on the drawbar frame, man they could eat some grass.

There are several of the black ones, not just the one which is actually the 30000th. It was a special "black edition" at the time.

When I made my apprenticeship back in Germany we had a customer with a Jaguar with V10 Deutz Diesel. Times have changed from the mid 80‘s. 😬😬

It was hot and dry. Not ideal conditions but sometimes you just have to go. The hay was mowers and it had to be chopped.

Because combines do not chop the plant material and they only process smal part of the plants. Choppers have to process whole plant.

Just think, my friend would cut alfalfa with a 5 foot sickle mower and I would rake with a 10 foot rake. Times change, I’m 70 years old.
