40 years ago, we worked twice as hard. Today's farmer works twice as smart. What a neat video. That 12 row chopper is a little faster than our old 2 row pull type. I just can't get over the size of the equipment. Thanks for sharing.
It's not that farmers were not smart 40 years ago, we didn't have the technology or the equipment that is available today. I also do not know of any small farmers that could even begin to afford most any of the equipment in this video. I know that this is a very large farm and this large machinery is a must, but most people who see this video think that all farmers are mega rich which is certainly not true.It all comes down to the farmers are not being compensated fairly for their product. Never have been, probably never will.
I worked for Claas in the UK. We brought out the 695 and that was a beast of a forager. Look at these 990’s! Oh man, how times have changed. Fantastic overhead video. ❤😊
You've outdone yourself this time Mike. The shots from outside the cab on top of the machine are absolutely TOP SHELF. Keep up the awesome coverage of American Agriculture.
Having two silage machines dumping into two trucks is really awesome that's getting a lot of silage done just to get the field done quick so it can be packed onto the sileage pile
Great video, I worked for Schaendorf 20 years ago. Ran a new Class 900 with 8 row head. He had 6 machines at the time and was a great place to work. Loved watching the video
I like the John Deere 9900i, but since I saw the Claas 990, so many people say that the Claas are much better with the redesign and, above all, the fuel consumption is much better. It's hard to tell, but Class combines always have better fuel consumption. Contrary to what I read everywhere, it is difficult with farmers because they work many days and hours a year and receive very little. These machines are very expensive, but also the suffering of all farmers all over the world. I know it, I have worked in this too. Nice video, greetings from Slovakia.
Great video Mike . The last time I drove a truck beside a pull behind cutter we had a two row Gehl cutter on 40 inch rows and a JD 4010 so it's been a few years ago
The whole video is spot on and especially two choppers filling one truck I’m very impressed and I’m interested in the claas tractor I didn’t know that they were in the states that’s pretty cool
This dairy farm is very professional and adaptive. They really worked with you Mike in making great footage. Not only do they have top notch equipment but they are very happy to help you. These guys are AWESOME!!!
Thanks and yes I was glad they got in touch with me over the summer to come out and do this. We're going to try and do some videos of them mowing and chopping alfalfa next summer.
@@farmhandmike Pretty cool you doing a video at Windy Ridge. Very nice kept and well thought out facility they have. I used to haul cattle out of there a few years ago. Nice to see again.
Thank you for sharing your excitement about this farm! In your opinion, what makes the farm stand out as most professional - the advanced equipment, the excellent collaboration, or their enthusiastic support?
Honestly mate you gotta go back and get a tour around the farm there's so much more to see be awesome to see there set up and how many cows there running and so forth that farms huge!! Awesome vid like always watching from Australia 🇦🇺
This is awsome i love these farming videos bc it reminds me of being a young kid again and its neat to see two trucks being dumped into definitely awsome
Thanks for another great video mike. It was interesting and enjoyable. Appreciate the drone footage from the air. Gives you a good idea on the silage operation. Good going mike. The Iowa farm boy.
A bit messy Mike , filling one truck with both foragers but great fun and well done to all the drivers. What incredible machinery designers and manufacturers, the headers especially as if that's not efficient the whole thing grinds to a halt.
hi, your choice of music and footage is topshelf mike , if it wasn't for the internet its primetime network t.v worthy all the way, friday night just like Dallas.
Good footage Mike, like those silage wagons and trailers, and that sure is one way to mow off the corn, makes me think of someone mowing their yard in an odd sort of way. Also an early Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. A side note winter has arrived here in Northern Maine have about 5"s of snow on the ground with no frost in the ground yet. Dave D.
That is quite the array of equipment they have going on to get the corn silage in. Massive dairy operation going on out there too!! Once again amazing footage from you. You never disappoint! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
The video of chopping corn silage at Windy Ridge Dairy showcases impressive efficiency and skill, highlighting the hard work behind quality dairy farming. The sweeping shots of the machinery in action and the farm's well-organized process make for an engaging watch. What part of the silage harvesting process do you find the most fascinating?
Every time I see this I'm amazed by the efficiency. How much more yield in terms of dairy production do they get compared to grass fed? I'll bet it's at least five times as much. But there's a cost. Grain fed dairy and beef has excessive Omega 6 fatty acids and isn't as good nutrionally as grass fed. Also it's probably GMO corn and who knows what they're adding to the silage mix.
Wow! That is a massive operation. And it is being run very efficiently. Do they have one manager in the field that is controlling cutters and wagon/trucks, and another manager at the pile controlling where and how product is dumped? Thank you for a great video.
I enjoy every video Mike you edit .this is a very big dairy I would love to know how many cows they milk at this dairy daily.it would have to take a lot of corn silage and haulage to feed all those hungry mouths everyday.i would love to know how many acres they farm there.very nice video keep up the good work. And thank you for all your videos and the hard work you put into them.GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. HAPPY THANKSGIVING MIKE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Great film - really enjoyed it. WHERE do they put all those tyres when they 'unsheet' those piles to use them, I've never seen a video of them stacked or heaped up, - they must do something with them before they need them again. The sheets I can understand, - they can be folded, but where the hell do all those tyres go.
Those cutters can really swallow the corn. I've never been around one, is it the force the from cutter cylinder that blows the silage out or is there some type of impeller? A bunch of very expensive equipment in that field.
Corn silage is a large part of a dairy cows diet. The entire plant is chopped including the ear and cob. This is done while the plant is mature but still green with some moisture in it for the best feed value. Corn that is harvested with a combine is done after the plant and the grain is much drier. That is done for the grain only and the rest of the plant is left on the ground for organic matter or some farms will bale it up and use it for bedding.
That banjo music that starts at 23:45 it would be funny if there was a man standing in that yard playing the banjo where it turns out the music was from him and not music added in the video.
@@farmhandmike Mike. It would be great to see. When I go to visit my Dad and we watch a movie together, there’s times when we always joke about this sort of thing and the joke never wears out for us. For example, with a western, when some cowboys are riding through a desert and there’s piano music in the movie, one of us would say, “Imagine the cowboys ride past a man playing a piano in the desert.” Or, with orchestra music in the movie, one of us would say, “Imagine the cowboys riding past an orchestra in the desert with somebody conducting.” I love your videos. The overhead shots from your drone a lovely. That video with the plane flying low, I wonder what that pilot was trying to prove. I think, by law, it’s illegal for a pilot to do that. I’m from England so I’m sure that crazy flying would be illegal in the US unless somebody was crop dusting. That crazy pilot could causing somebody with a weak heart to have a heart attack doing that, mostly if he aims to fly directly over a farmer where the farmer fears the plane will crash into him/her.
@Mike Less - Farmhand Mike it actually went back to the dealer a week after you stopped out. lots of wiring issues think its gone and got traded for another 8r370

Who owns all those silage wagons and tractors? Dairy, farmer, or harvester?
The custom harvester I believe.
Those cutters can really swallow the corn.
I've never been around one, is it the force the from cutter cylinder that blows the silage out or is there some type of impeller?
A bunch of very expensive equipment in that field.
cutterhead throws it up to an accelerator that throws it faster threw the spout
Think secondary stage on a snow blower and you will have an idea.
Cool
Those harvesters don't take long to fill trucks
Forgive my ignorance but is corn harvested first or is it a all cut for silage ?
its a specific type of corn that is planted, it does not create the cob, its only used as silage feed
Corn silage is a large part of a dairy cows diet. The entire plant is chopped including the ear and cob.
