This is when they really got huge! They were playing stadiums finally. They started out playing pizza parlors and biker bars, then clubs and then stadiums. To my ears it was the Green tour and then Out of Time that we’re the peak artistically! They really hit the big time.
Straight up hard rock from REM. They literally could do anything.

I loved watching Bill on the drums. I rarely get to see him much, but they showcased him well on this one. Near the end of the song, he left his seat for a split second. He KILLED it!! ✌💙🔥🔥🔥🥁

The songs of rem reminds me of the best days when my children were home. I can't think of a better memory maker than great music. Thanks rem you still are the very best.
I deeply, deeply regret never seeing them play live but especially this tour. They were four geniuses at their absolute peak artistically and commercially. I recognize these shows via my experience with other bands where they are so at the top of their game and have such a great catalogue of music that it becomes something of a religious experience to be in attendance. The whole thing becomes much more than the sum of its parts. There's so much love and energy in the arena it feels like the roof is going to blow off the place during some songs. I believe its related to how nearly everything else drops away and the mass of humans become intimately connected through the music and performance and audience reaction. I don't think it happens much anymore. Too many phones. Everything's too manufactured and artificial and people are almost completely disconnected, distrustful, and afraid. It is not bullshit to say the 90s were so much better. Nowhere near perfect, but the common joy and passion and authenticity that was in abundance is as missing as artists like R.E.M. themselves. Maybe there's hope. Maybe we can begin the begin. Maybe it really is the end of the world as we know it. Maybe we can choose to feel fine anyway. Love you Michael, Mike, Bill, and Peter. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I saw REM around this time and was terribly disappointed in Stipe's lack of energy. You see clips of their shows in the 80's and he is a dervish on stage, all over the place. This clip here shows how he was in his "I'm bored and don't want to be here" phase. He seems to have gotten a little more enthusiastic in the 2000s
Disagree. saw the monster show in Detroit and it was insane. The work tour may have been more energy, but the 83-86 shows were M Stipe wasted on booze and ludes.
