great video, and great idea for the feet, not seen that before, just about to build a small stand (box / table) for my brother in laws new cylinder fish tank. thanks for posting from Garry in the UK
I made them legs today for my sons toy box What a brilliant idea and you right a lot of dust. Mine was made out of MDF Thank you Brett great video All the best from Ireland
Mate, an absolutely top job. I'll be making one of these for a customer. If I was to make one criticism, it would be the exposed pocket holes. I'll be filling them in with a bit of putty. But, overall, I think it turned out fantastic. Keep them coming mate.
Built By Chris could you design with the pocket holes on the outside and cover with the trim work? In other words, a plywood box with the pocket holes on outside, and finish the outside with trim which would cover the joinery?
thanks! yeah it was a last minute add on by the client so I wasn't able to grab video of it but it was just a bit of precision work with the jigsaw and a good bit of sanding haha
WHEN ATTACHING THE HINGE TO THE TOP, I SAW A LADY USE DOUBLE BACK TAPE, KNOCK THE PINS OUT,DRILLED FOR SCREWS,REMOVED TAPE ADD SCREWS,DRIVE PIN BACK IN. WORKED WELL
I am worried about the weight of it using 3/4 inch plywood, if I change some of the demensions would there be any reason I couldn't use 1/2 inch plywood instead. also I like to have it 21 inch deep instead of 15 inch deep. would I have to widen the pieces you add to the external sides.
He writes it all out before he starts cutting and building but it looks like it’s majority one sheet of plywood other than legs but I’d have to watch again and write it out
Thanks! If you'd like to make the legs larger, I would recommend using a much thicker block so you have more material to work with. If you just need them taller, just use a wider board.
He said in another comment he had some precision jigsaw work to go about an inch down and sand the heck out of it. Apparently the customer asked for it after the build part of the video was filmed
Thanks. I'm from Norway and my local stores of that type does not carry anything similar. I need to order the lid supports online, so I was hoping you'd have any kind of name/brand/product sheet/whatever so I can search online for something similar.
The right word to describe this piece of art is..... "WOWWWWWW" congrats
Outstanding design and execution
Thanks for the tip on them inside brackets.
Very nice!!
Great work! I really benefited from watching.
Just found my next project! Always love your videos!

thank you!
Love the method of making the feet! Great looking project. New subscriber here!
Nice toy box. I think the gap between the lid and box is beneficial so your kids fingers have less odds of pinching
thanks! yeah it was a last minute add on by the client so I wasn't able to grab video of it but it was just a bit of precision work with the jigsaw and a good bit of sanding haha
complimenti Brett. . . . . bel lavoro
Like it. Good Job!
Thank you!
My daughter will be born in a few weeks, and I was looking for a nice chest to make her, and this is amazing. Thank you so much for the video!
Thanks for the kind words man, best of luck on your build and best wishes for you and the family!
Awesome toy chest. I built something similar for my daughter and struggled with the lid supports too.
Thank you! Also glad I'm not the only one out there, I was wondering if it was just me haha

Let me tell you awesome video... I saved it and subscribe to your channel I love making things I'm going to build this for my daughter
Hi! I love this toy chest, do you think if I wanted to add a cushion on top to also make it a bench would it support weight? Or should I not do that?
Hey there, thank you! yeah you can definitely sit on it.
Brett Withjack thank you so much

Hi Brett, great toy chest! Would you happen to have the measurements and plans written out as I would love to make this! Thanks so much!
Hey thank you! The box portion (not including height from the feet) was 20" tall, 18" wide, and 38" in length. Hope that helps!
He writes it all out before he starts cutting and building but it looks like it’s majority one sheet of plywood other than legs but I’d have to watch again and write it out
Please clarify, when cutting the legs on the miter saw, what is the dimension from the first 45° cut to the 90° cut?
He said one inch
I love your project, it is very pretty at the end. I am sure Lily loved it. How could I make the legs larger?
Thanks! If you'd like to make the legs larger, I would recommend using a much thicker block so you have more material to work with. If you just need them taller, just use a wider board.
I wish I had half of these tools
Great video - but the music is a tad too loud: makes it hard to hear your voice at times!
Bravo molto bello quando avrò un figlio penso che lo farò anche io.. :-)
thank you!
What type of plywood did you use
Nice job. Do you like the dust deputy?
thanks! yeah it does a good job. I might upgrade down the road but this is perfect for light use in a small space
Do you have a link to the closing hinges you used?
Here ya go! www.amazon.com/dp/B07V1MS4F9/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_J00EDZE9WFH6GY5ZT0W9
absolutly fantastic job but you should have filled the pocket holes inside the box as me personally think u should have filled em before painting
After watching several times, I noticed that the finished chest has a gap between the lid and front/sides. ? How was that done?
He said in another comment he had some precision jigsaw work to go about an inch down and sand the heck out of it. Apparently the customer asked for it after the build part of the video was filmed
Hi, great build. I'm going to try to build something similar as a christmas gift for my niece. Question: Where did you buy the lid supports?
Hey there, thank you! You can pick them up at any local home good store like Home Depot or lowes.
Thanks. I'm from Norway and my local stores of that type does not carry anything similar. I need to order the lid supports online, so I was hoping you'd have any kind of name/brand/product sheet/whatever so I can search online for something similar.
What is that jig you use for the pocket screws?
Kregg Jig
What are the measurements of the lid?
excelente!
thank you!
How did you get the gap at the lid ?
He said in another comment it was a last minute addition after the build video. He used the jigsaw to dip about an inch and sanded it down
where did you get the hinges from?
Home Depot or Lowes
The feet are great!!
Gran trabajo, saludos
thank you!

Hmmm I finally followed Robert's advice and took woodprix instructions. It's great for beginners, and has some advanced stuff too.
Great build, but that is not furniture grade ply.
muito bom valeu
No, 10 minutes of that damn music is all I can stand.
Great simple project. PLEASE lose the music. I ended up muting about five minutes in.
nice video but pls kill the music
Mine works too. I used woodprix plans and build it without any problems.
Lovely bit of work but please lose the music
Just get rid of the music it is irritatingly loud and, to be honest, is like bubble gum for the ears.
