I’d love to give the Polks some fair consideration, but this seems like no contest. I own the Sony’s, and while they do lack in bass, they are champs above anything the Polks could hope to do.
With eyes closed, every time I heard the music that was most appealing to me personally, I saw the Sony's. They sounded much fuller and wider in my opinion.
THANK YOU! I found some new in box T15s for 50 bucks, I'm glad I didnt pull the trigger. What a huge difference. Yes more money, but its not like its a huge margin.
I was using a pair of T15 for my desktop system, wasn't thrilled with the sound. After hearing about the Sony SSCS5s found a pair used for $75. Couldn't believe the difference in sound quality. Am going to give away the Polks.
I had purchased a pair of Polk T15's when Fry's was closing for less than fifty dollars. After using the pair for awhile I never felt like the T15's ever sounded worth the little I paid. So out of curiosity, I opened one of the speakers to find no fill or any sort of crossover, just a chained wires to the terminals.
That does not sound consistent with the set of T15s I had. T15s are among the worst speakers you can get for the price, but they do have small crossover components glued to the back of the terminals, as well as a thin layer of stuffing (which is what I assume you meant by “fill”) in the back. A speaker with no crossover components on the tweeter will cause the tweeter to blow. I think your T15s were not genuine Polk ones! Even big electronics stores can get shipped fakes sometimes! Out of curiosity, how heavy were they? How thick was the box material? Mine have extremely thick MDF sides with triangle bracing, and the magnets are shielded which also makes them heavy. The tweeter magnet is tiny though, but it’s a strong neodymium magnet. Does this description sound like your pair?
I have the polks and use them for rear surrounds... there is a decided difference between the 2 , thats without question...as to Which type of sound You prefer, thats Subjective...those sony's sound more "in ur face" forward in the mid freqs while the polks sound more laid back in the mids... myself, I actually Like a more recessed midrange..now perhaps thats Not a pure flat response that audiophiles rave about but its easier on my ears...I hate a honking, forward, mid freq in the 2-4khz range and usually eq it down a tad....that said, the sonys Do fill those mid freqs more than the polks and if you were watching a graph, they would likely be more flat in response..I can see why most people choose them... they sound decent
If you want to hear what an actual midrange dip sounds like, listen to the new Polk XT15s. The old T15s don’t have a midrange dip as much as they have a peak at around 2.5khz that overpowers the lower midrange, causing vocals to not be heard as easily. I get that this could be perceived as a midrange dip to some people, but it’s more like an everything dip: they also have absolutely no low bass or high treble to speak of in comparison to either the Sonys or XT15s.
I have no dog in this fight as I use Fluance SX6w's and Klipsch R 41M's, but I just bought a pair of the Polk Audio T15's for a friend of mine whom I'm building a small system for as a Christmas present as right now she's using Tunein on her smart tv as her radio and I have a vintage late 70's Hitachi SR-504 receiver I've cleaned the pots and switches on that I plan on giving her to use with the speakers, along with a new, still in the box Sony turntable that came with another receiver I bought on FB marketplace. I also intend to get a DAC so she can run her TV through the vintage receiver if she likes. Personally either of these speakers sounded good to me with the Polks being a little higher in sound but I think she'll like that as she prefers 70's & 80's pop and rock.
I have Both Speakers Honestly Sony beats Polk Speakers soo far away but I liked 👍Both in my opinion Sony Core Speakers Polk Speakers There are pretty good 👍👌
Did you change volume setting to to get higher sound from sony 6 ohm to complete with polk t-15 ? I had sony center 6 ohm center and had to increase volume knob to get same performance from 8 ohm speaker, which drives easier with lower volume setting. Actually the better test would be sonys against the polk t-100s.
Both speakers are good, the Sony at a higher volume will sound uglier, the Sony 3-way is supposed to make that detail stand out, now put a centerpiece in the polk.
I have the polk t15 I think they are really good sounding little Badboys !! the Sony with 6olm require a little more power to drive but produce louder tones,, actually to me, they seem a little to Harsh or maybe too bright for long term listening, Just my opinion.
For music, maybe so, but I use them to boost dialog on TV and movies so I don't have to volume-shift. They're great for that. Not too much low end, but I can hear what people are saying. edit: To be clear, I'm referring to the Sony's.
now review the same sony SSCS5 speakers w/ the upgrade kit fr Danny of GR engineering and/ or fr Neil neilblancharddesigns go ahead i dare you ! i double dare you ! LOL 🙂
I would say upper midrange and lower bass (below ~85 Hz) are "withdrawn" on the Sony, but quite a lot of people actually like a withdrawn upper midrange (2-4 kHz interval) - and the Sony has a lot of fans. But it's certainly not a neutral speaker.
When it flips to the Sony after 2:43. You can hear some low bass actually get added in, and the vocals get clearer. Sure, the treble gets brighter though, so for many people, that’s the first thing they hear. You should really listen to both sets for an hour straight before deciding what to get. The speaker you get bored listening to after the longest time should be the one you buy. You’d be better off with one of those cheap 90s all-in-one stereos than the Polk.
That’s a very bold statement. Not everyone can afford top of line equipment. I own the sony sscs5 and I think there great for the money. They sound a hell of a lot better than some speakers double or triple there price.
You're better off spending way more on speakers than your other equipment. It's the only thing that really won't be obsolete 10 years from now. I'd only buy either of these speakers if they were under $50.
@@FrederickW I use $1,200 floorstanding speakers as stands for my little Sony bookshelves, they do a great job of it. The Sony's simply have a cleaner, more detailed sound, and believe it or not, a slightly less harsh treble as well, and after adding a Sony Core 10" subwoofer, the bottom end is filled out and it sounds great. Altogether, my Sony bookshelves and Sub cost about $200, and my DAC, preamp, and amp, about another $200, and I'd put my $400 system up against anything under $1,000 US.
I'm so glad I found this video as I was about to pull the trigger on the Polks. Those Sonys sound so much better. Thanks for making this video!

me gusta mas la presencia de frecuencias medias que bajos que retumban, por ese lado yo me inclinaria por los parlantes Sony
@@djijspeakerguy4628 The T15s are purposely wired out of phase to be above or below the listening position as surrounds
The Sonys sound better on axis. The Polks are made to sound better off axis.

Sony all day
Not much to compare. Sony. I wish you could make some vs edifier comparisons. They are great budget choices.

Even on my little Bluetooth speaker the Sony sounded better. Especially the rock song
Polk Audio 10,Sony 9,5.
Great video bud
Sony! I listened this video on 4 different earphones. Sony!
awesome! thank you~
I would prefer T15.
The first winning song was polk audio but sony won the second one. Yeah sony is better
Polk Audio T15 super sound! Polk Audio T15 note 10. Sony note 9,5.
Bro Polk tl 1600 Vs jamo E 310 best sound clarity??????????
Both speakers are good, the Sony at a higher volume will sound uglier, the Sony 3-way is supposed to make that detail stand out, now put a centerpiece in the polk.
I didn't hear much difference, both sound great!
Thanks to You for discovered "Remember me'. In technical opinion, Polk T15 and Polk, is much better speaker in general terms that Sony.
Have you ever looked at Sony's top of the line speakers though? Like the Sony SS-NA2ES
heco victa prime 202 vs dali spektor 2?
wow... so way much SONY
Polk 💪
"Remember me" by what artist?

Polk sounds like your auditorium PAs
Polk sound more wide open, the Sony sound more cabinet confined.
Very different frequency curve but both having a bad curve is the common part. Both bad speakers.
Sony 🙋♂️
I just purchased the Sony SSC-S5's to replace my Polk T-15's. No comparison - the Sony's sound much better/
The Polk sound like they are inside a carboard box
I am focus on...

Sony is much clear tan polk, the polk has litle more base
Sony, sony y después sony no sé qué hizo polk ahí pero ese rango medio en las voces suena como plástico
Polk has better bass, Sony has better mid-range
Sony vs wharfedale D320
I will make a video soon. thanks.~~
@@eprojectEllie Thank's!!
Polk has less midrange and overall thin sound.
Listened without looking and scrolled up when I noticed a change. Sony walks away with the win.
Reverse the tweeter polarity on the Polks and it'll fill in that massive hole in the upper midrange.
I did this and it helped a little. Still, the Sonys would likely outdo the Polks. I have Polk XT15 that also sound better than the modified T15s.
Oh for sure the CS5 is the winner even with the tweeter mods. But on-axis listening is much improved on the Polks after the mod, imo.
The Sony cost the double of the Polk on amazon
У Сони высоких больше, как на мой слух...
Polk wins, here in germany it's half the price of the Sony
Sony is better more pleasant
The Sony is so bad that I actually prefer the Polk. At lest it has some bass and midrange, neither of which the Sony has

The polk is the most veiled piece of shit to ever grace the budget category. Period.

Have to spend at least $200 on bookshelves, less than that and you get trash...
Unless you get more expensive on sale....
Sony easily destroys polk
Sony has better sound ..
more transparent
polk sound terrible tiny little sound
