They also never required her to report her residence every 90 days. The first green card is 2 years, the extension is good for 5 on a K-1 visa. Survive the initial forms and fees brain damage and they leave you alone, and that's if you immigrate *legally* .

I am British, 67 years of age, ex Royal Air Force Air Traffic Controller and extremely ashamed of Britain right now. I shan’t go too deeply incase I am thrown into prison for speaking my mind. I never thought this would ever happen in this country. All we fought for in past wars, lives lost to keep Britain Great!!! Enough about our present dilemma. Regards your topic. As you have clearly pointed out. The proposal of ETA is a very bad idea. As you said. It’s similar to a visa application!!!! so far not a single thing you are afraid of has been confirmed, and really, as things are trending, if they ever do come to past, most of us O/O-A visa holders will be long gone from these mortal coils!? But even if it happens soon, the most likely scenario is:
1 - if there is more scrutiny it's unlikely to be much of an expense, and probably a one time process or one with multiple entry validity (like the USA's ESTA which is $21 and good for 2 years (and the information it asks is not too onerous for the most part, just asking personal information that anyone would easily know ... the only issue with the ESTA is they want to know your 'social media' account usernames, which is pretty damn intrusive, and I strongly doubt Thailand would be asking for that kind of information.)
2 - 90 day reporting is free and dead easy if you have a computer or smartphone. I fill it out every 90 days and all I need to remember is the web address, my ID, passowrd (all in my password software valuts so I don't even have to remember that) and my passport number.
3 - Taxation is unlikely to be of any issue at all other than if you are trying to hide income illegally ... of your income is from a pension, then the high probability is you get your tax assessment sent over or downloaded from your country's tax service and add it to your extension application. If your income is taxed or tax exempt in your home country, then the chances are it will also be exempt from any taxes in Thailand , but as of now the truth is we don't know what the actuall tax rules will be, but most 'experts' are pretty sure it's not going to do much to affect most people on retirement visas.
But, your choice, so good luck with whichever choice you make.

It’ll eventually be implemented. TM30 forms, universal handout income, digitalization, foreign income taxes, harder to open a bank account and soon to be ETA are all signs but the biggest red flag is them spear heading the 6 in 1 SEA visa. This leads to one database for ‘you know what’ purpose which tells you that the 3 letter acronym organizations have already full control. Some long term foreigners have left for laos and Cambodia cause they saw it coming. Will these 2 countries be also affected, probably but it’ll take a longer time for them to fall in place. As for someone who fell in love and stayed in Thailand since the 90s, I’m truly sad but with all the subtle implementations it’s very clear where this is all heading. Thailand is no more what it’s used to be. Solution: Adapt and be ready to move.

Thanks Ben for the video i can relate to this but in another way. Thai governments are becoming masters of triple and quadruple handling everything. It's like i go from Pattaya to a 7/11 in Phuket to buy some milk and come back with it to Pattaya, Everything is done the long way round. I purchased a motorbike in July, still have not received the Plates, i had to go to immigration TWICE for a piece of paper which i believe states my proof of residence, then i have to take it to the bike shop and show them. While i was at immigration i was directed to four different counters and told to come back later that day to pick up the document which they could have printed out in seconds. They don't seem to know or take advantage of the latest technology and make things easier for them and us.

Yeah Thailand is not going to be a good destination anymore, I’ve been coming for years, twice a year and spend 20 k there, guess that’s not good enough

Side note: QR codes pose a huge cyber security risk, since it allows for bypassing a device’s security protocols. Very easy to corrupt. I always try to avoid using QR codes. No thanks

So my understanding is that they were planning on introducing the ETA as a pilot project in December this year, but this got postponed so now it's up in the air to when it's actually gonna be implemented.

Refer back to the ghouls at the WEF, they don't want you travelling. Kept in your 15min cities, owning nothing and loving it. This is the stage, 2nd act and it'll only get worse.

Philippines has that QR Code thing. They use it in conjuction with getting your Passport stamped. It's annoying extra step before coming.

The ETA is the best way to collect the tourist fee. This I believe is the only reason for the ETA. If Thailand wants to experiment with this system, then let them do it. If it impacts tourism, they will scrap it. Also, I understand, and other commenters have stated that the ETA will not apply to those that already have a visa (O/OA, Marriage, LTR, Privilege, etc.). It’s a minor inconvenience and a great way to collect the tourist fee that airlines and others refuse to collect.
