Speaking for myself and natives of the UK/Ireland digitalisation is a boon. No more flights from Ireland to London plus the over night wait to get a Visa, now it's all online. Took 3 working days after which I got an email containing my new 90 day for the sum of 60 pounds. The longest it has ever taken is 5 working days and I applied at least 6 times. Well done RTE London.
Anything put into a computer online is subject to hacking. I don’t care what security features are in place. If your personal info is online, it is subject to be exploited.
They already doing this in the USA at the Thai embassy. Had to go online for the O visa. I got a response back in a few days, but they want an additional bank account since that bank statement was slightly short took about 10 days for the visa.
Generally I agree but, as always, there is an exception. Not visa related but apropos modernisation. I took my wife to the Khon Kaen passport office on Tuesday to get a new passport and two days later it was delivered to our address! Well done.
The option to get a multi entry O visa didn't show on their website when I was applying in the UK this last time I was applying! Only a single entry was available.
The e-visa system has been a nightmare since it began. Went to Cambodia in March to apply for a tourisrt visa. Took 3 days and they wanted lots of info , 3 months of bank statements, 20000 baht in your account on the day of application, confirmed flights in and out of Thailand, confirmed hotel booking. I came back on a 30 day visa exempt. At the end of the 30 days i drove to Suvanakhet and applied there. Same story there, need all the same paperwork. As i had driven across i explained i couldnt provide tickets in and out as i was driving my car. No tickets out, no hotel booking but still had to provide bank statements and 20K in bank. Now on 60 day visa exempt and staying that way for the foreseeable future. According to reports no problem doing that for the immediate future. Wait for 15 days in Vientiene for a visa? What a joke these Thai officials decisions are. On one hand they are saying they want more tourists on the other making it harder.
Or else, two trips to Lao, if I understand this correctly ? What, exactly, is an""e-visa" Is it something that is sent to you electronically, or is it something for which you must return to Lao to receive a stamp in your passport ?
You could literally look that up in two minutes. But I'll tell you anyway. It means you make the application online. Visit the embassy. You get an email with approval (ideally). You show the print-out to immi when entering Thailand @@AllanEaton1
I dont have a consulate in my Pacific island, so evisa is very good news. Moreover the recent change for visa exemption from 30 to 60 days is a major improvement that in many cases eliminates the need for a visa.
@@SeppoVarkoi-qt5kk It is not a visa, and it is called "Visa exemption". That's the meaning of the word "exempt", "avoid", "not necessary". Google it : "visa exemption Thailand"
Definitely a game changer Ben for anyone who wants to live in Thailand full-time but doesn't have a full-time visa.the ETA will change border runs and u will have to get a proper long term visa .when I come to live in Thailand I'm applying for the education visa where u can stay for 3 months and learning the Thai language then after that applying for the 1 year extension there's not excuse not to get a visa if u want to stay long term in Thailand .the ETA will definitely stop border runs though.
Visa exemption is what it says in the name. You are exempt from needing a visa for a certain duration and for certain activities. In the case of Thailand, those from visa exempt countries don't need a visa for stays of 60 (90 if you factor in an extension albeit not technically guaranteed) days for visits as a tourist. With regard to entries, I have heard anecdotally that some land borders checkpoints with Laos now require you to stay in Laos for at least one day so you can't simply go across the border for 15 minutes and come right back.
When is Visa Exempt no longer visa exempt..... As soon as the Thai government decides what date the ETA is to be activated!! 🤣 i.e. No ETA, no visa exempt entry.
Not sure why the bulk of your audience actually apply for short term visas anymore when most of them will get 60 days on arrival anyway. Yes you have to leave the country before 60 days but is it really the end of the world. A weekend in Vitenam, Cambodia etc is always a welcome change for me
This one was a little confusing, as i understand most dont need to apply for a visa you get the 60 days turist visa upon entering Thailand at the border for most countries , or am i wrong? This one are only for people who has to apply for a visa, or, am confused 😅
Exactly. Visa exemption is 60 days, then you can go 5 days in Manila and back to Thailand. New 60 days exemption. Total 120 days in Thailand ... no need for a visa in many cases.
This has nothing to do with combating border runs. The turnaround time for these eVisas is rather long at almost all embassies that employ this system. The RTE in Germany takes 2-3 weeks for a tourist visa as well but at least there you pay via credit card. Since in Laos many don't have a credit card they have the cash payment step in between.
What about collecting visa in Laos, will that be physical in the passport or online too? Here is room for somebody making some business. You apply on Internet from Thailand, somebody pays the fee for you in person and takes some commission, and you arrive to Laos in time when the visa is done.🤑
I believe it’s a good idea. It’s going to stop all the poor old people with 5 pounds in their pocket, coming to Thailand, abuse the system and pretend they are rich. I’m personally happy with the new change and all the people that are going to troll and rubbish it are the same people I have described above. Great video mate.
So what in your opinion is “abusing the system”? How is waiting 14 days for a visa going to change this? You said good video, but is English your first language? He clearly says how this digital crap will only make things worse. Not only do we have to deal with horrible regulations to obtain a visa, now we’ll have to deal with this crap too.

All government paper work in Europe has become a long long nightmare. Basically it means no one will do business any longer. Which means serious economic declines for Europe.
@ Not sure it’s the plan to make the EU poor and desperate. I think these leaders are stuck in their political philosophy and cannot change. Like Lenin by 1922 he already knew Communism had failed yet could not change it because that was his stick.
If they want it to be easier for themselves, how about letting people have a 90 day tourist visa, and a 60 day extension, so they dont have to border hop/run.
What do you get from being in Thailand that much longer as a visitor without a long term visa or work permit? It's better to not come or go somewhere else where they don't do this bullsh** to you. If you must go to Thailand just get your visa on arrival and leave before it's done. It's beyond ridiculous now, it used to be a nice and easy place to go, now not so much. With this change in the visa system, and the recent methanol deaths in Laos, it will not help them to attract more tourists there.
My experience with the evisa system last summer was so bad that if I didn't have visa exempt available, I would never visit Thailand again.
What happened ?
