    You know, it's amazing what the language can actually do for the film. It feels 5,000 times better and more authentic than any other Roman film I've ever seen, even though the Latin isn't 100% on point for the time. Much better than watching a bunch of English people talk in their English accents.

I'm not an expert, but I think in Classical Latin, the R would've been tapped/trilled more often (you can still hear this in the Romance languages, which are direct descendants). however, this is nitpicking. as I said back then, it's an overall faithful representation of Latin which gets many things right (like pronouncing the v as w), and is better than most other media.

Legions fought in very long columns, tried fallback, build fortifications etc. Only this part is worth at least 3 episodes, imho ). And about propaganda... in serie it looks like the good germanic tribes fight for their freedom and so on. Reality was different, tribes fought against each other in very savage wars, take slaves etc. etc. Some tribes cooperate with Romans... • @ramdrivesys1869
      @ramdrivesys1869 8 лет назад +16

      Poles can probably learn Latin a lot more naturally than say, English speakers. The vocabulary is very different, but the old Indo-European declension grammar of Slavic languages is shared with Latin. A Romance native speaker would be more familiar with the vocabulary, but the grammar of Latin is actually closer to our type of case based grammar (I speak Slovak that works in the same way) than to modern Romance languages. The pattern of thinking would also be similiar due to the way the languages connect words, so speaking Latin for a Pole would feel more natural than to an English or Chinese speaker for example.

    "Imperator" is a sublime success! Gratitude to the entire production staff. The cinematography is elegant, the dialog beautifully composed and plausible, and the courage to film a story of Rome in credibly declaimed Latin should inspire more such projects. Świetna realizacja, zdjęcia, ujęcia obraz, światło na najwyższym możliwym hollywódzkim poziomie. Tj, takim którego nie znajdziesz w polskich zaciemnionych, niewyraźnych filmach. Scenografia i charakteryzacja oraz stroje mimo budżetu na bardzo wysokim poziomie. Zbroje jak prawdziwe. Aktorzy, kurczę grają całkiem naturalnie i nie ma się poczucia tej sztuczności, która gości w normalnych rodzimych produkcjach. Język brzmi dziwnie, mimo, iż się go uczyłem, ale tylko dlatego, że przyzwyczailiśmy się do angielskiego w takich filmach.
    Świetna robota, gratulacje, szkoda, że to tylko etiuda a nie pełen metraż i full budżet.
    Natomiast cała ekipa, która go realizowała powinna być wykorzystywana full time do realizacji wszelkich innych polskich produkcji tu apel do innych reżyserów, chcecie mieć film na poziomie międzynarodowym to się albo od nich uczcie albo ich zatrudnijcie.
    Twórcom proponuję wysłac to do Netflixa lub Prime Amazon. To jest warte zainwestowania.

    Being English, Latin nearly killed me in school, still learnt most of it in punishment detention classes however. This is a brilliant production and brings the film alive, also a far better way of learning. Well done students - more please!

    Maybe the budget for this movie is not so high, but honestly I don't care because all the others aspects are satisfying: the pronunciation of Latin is perfect in my opinion, the story is interesting and makes you want to know what it will happen and also the actors are pretty good. Congratulations, they should make more movies on Roman History like this👏💪✨

    This film has the best Latin accent I've heard in any film. I speak some romance languages and one tends to hear either Italian or Spanish accents that sound awful for ancient Latin. Kudos for the director and actors. I look forward for any future project he may have. I did not hear any Slavic accent they all speak a very convincing classical Latin.

    • @Vatras888
      @Vatras888 4 года назад

      To be fair actors speak just with Polish accent. As a Pole I away thoght that we have not any accent or we have very weak. Mayby its because of that you concider this latin good. Weak accent is closer to no accent especialy in compare with strong accents languages.

    • @zaqwsx23
      @zaqwsx23 4 года назад +4

      You don't even know what was Classical Latin accent, but you are sure that a Polish accent is closer to it than an Italian accent. OK.

    • @ruyaal
      @ruyaal 4 года назад +1

      Nobody really knows, I get it ,but you just need to hear the difference. The Italian latin is heavily influenced by medieval latin. If you see the movie "The Passion" the conversation between Jesus and Pilate you can hear that Jesus speaks a better approach to classical that the roman's Italian accent.

      @@ruyaal - We do know pretty well what Classical Latin sounded like. Plenty of vids about it on youtube.
      Just so happens that the old Latin vowel values are fairly close to those in modern Polish, which haven’t ‘rotated’ much in centuries.

    Latin is such a noble language. VERY few languages have such nobility. In my humble experience I would list Farsi, Armenian, Sardo and Middle Japanese as the only few that come close.
