I designed the sanding block based on the full sheet sandpaper holder I made 2 years ago and you can watch that video here:
• Why Didn't I Think Of ...
I call this the No-Snag Sanding Block and after I 3d printed it I figured I should make it from wood as well. It holds the sandpaper securely and is compact and the ergonomic grip makes it more comfortable to use than a standard sanding block because it keeps you wrist straight.

Lovely organic handle shape. Nice job!
Terrific stuff, John. Your home-made designs never fail to amaze me!
A big thumbs up, John.
Steadily you dish out the Good stuff.
Thank you.
👏🏻
I felt like your hands were so close to that saw and router bit! I was getting worried haha
I question a lot of the RUclipsr woodworking practices too, but when it comes to this guy I just can't justify any criticism at all. He's like Jesus. He walks on wood. I bet that his wife is made of wood, and she's perfect :-)
( He should sell plans for her )
I love your well thought out designs. You even make sanding blocks works of art.
This is awesome John!
Anybody else look around themselves for what they dropped, confused as hell, at 2:22? 😂
Great sanding block and interesting design John! 👍👍
Great build as always J
Brilliant design, thank you!
great job John
That sanding block has some ingenious design to it. Very nice.
I noticed you added that wood to the top of your mini table saw sled. To make it taller for higher cuts? Yesterday I made a new one but I added an extension to the right side that can slide in and out. This lets me cut longer pieces using the stop block. I'll post a pic on your Locals page to see what I mean.
I accidentally cut the sled in two pieces! so rather than making a new one I repaired it with that splint on the top.
@@JohnHeisz Doh!
Thanks for the concession of making this tool in wood. I know you have your heart set in working with your new media of plastic, but for me there is just something about wood that says craftsmanship. This is a completely subjective observation on my part, kind of like asking why one prefers green over blue, or Spanish Classical Guitar to Heavy Metal. Great video John thumbs up.
I really enjoy watching you take and ideal and make it. Thanks.
Awesome!!!! Thanks John!!!! 👍💯😎
Always awesome. Thanks John 👍
love it! What a weekend workshop project for me to have a go at. Thank's John :)
Beautiful! Well worth the effort. Thanks.
That’s a neat sander!
Realmente muy creativo e innovador. Hace años lo veo desde Argentina, no dejo de sorprenderme.Un saludo desde el otro extremo de América.
Gracias.
Thank you for sharing. Great video as usual!
Thanks for sharing.
SO COOL. Nice job!
Nice holder.
That’s awesome
Very impressive.
That's really cool... I'll do the 3d print, mainly because I'm lazy. 😂
Awesome!
Too cool. I'm definitely going to print a couple of these. I always thought your creations in wood were pretty innovative but your 3D prints are a whole new level. I don't know where you find the time to learn the modelling software, I've been slowly learning over years, but I'm glad you do. Some great stuff John.
Are most of your tool/jig prints in ABS? I might've missed where you mentioned it.
Most are ABS a few may be PETG. When in doubt use more infill, lol.
way mor elegant than 2 sided tape or spray adhesive like my poverty blocks
Whenever the music kicks in, I'm getting a little sad, because I know that the video soon will be over.
Viele Grüße Eik
Well made video
Were is the blade guard on that table saw?
How does the sanding block not fall through the front...Friction?
Nice!
So simple a caveman could do it. Nice work John.
Is the outer base EXACTLY the same size as a quarter-sheet so you can use it as a cutting template? Might be worth seeing if such a modification is doable....Jus' thinkin out loud
I think I'll take the lazy option and 3D print one...
😮😮😮
But it doesn't do the sanding for you...
I’m never through with sanding, I just reach a point and quit.
The music you use at the end is used by the Australian Taxation Office as hold music. It’s not your fault but it makes me very stressed
An example of how you can complicate your life! If a 3D printed model is good, then why make the same thing out of wood? Wood is not a very good structural material. It is anisotropic, hygroscopic, and deformed when moisture is absorbed.. In addition, complex shapes made of wood are difficult to make. What is printed easily on a 3D printer is made of wood with great difficulty and involving a large number of machines and tools in the process. Make tools out of plastic, leave wood for furniture!
We sat with bated breath and then there it was at 2 minutes and 48 seconds😊
What I don't understand is how it doesn't just drop out? Are the the sides ever so slightly chamfered?
Lol the hot swap drill bit
Nice, but the last sanding block was way simpler and more functional! I used it all the time
- average RUclipsr: "I make a prototype in plywood then I enter all its dimensions into my CAD software before 3D printing the final version."
- John Heisz: "Hold my -beer- sanding block."
Brilliant, John! Fantastic work!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Very nice.
Excelente.
Tidy job.

Thanks Brendan :)
Is the lever just providing tension against the frame to hold it in place? Assuming the lever is just slightly proud of the handle base.
As usual John, you are striving for perfection in each of your tools, great design!
Wonderfully made!
Very well done, John
Really great work
See, you don't need a giant woodworking project to 'entertain' :D
I think the wooden version is very neat.
