    It is good to mention that in terms of housing that the biggest problem is not only the low supply but the low standard of accommodation. I love Ireland and the Irish people but Dublin has the lowest living standard of all European capitals (yes, including eastern Europe). Awful insulation and mould problems even in expensive houses and apartments (Energy rating D and worse). Many houses have bricks outside but a wooden structure inside with nails instead of screws making the whole structure move and destabilise. Water quality as well is below European standard especially in North Dublin with high lead concentration (20x higher than safe levels). Older houses will have single glass windows. AND what shocked me the most is the healthcare and public transport. Healthcare is expensive (even public one inst completely free) and has awful waiting periods even in the private sector. My irish colleagues would jokingly say: The best thing you can do when you get seriously sick is to go to the airport. Kids with spinal issues wait for years for surgeries and people with strong suspicion for cancer wait months and months. I very much hope for my Irish friends that the healthcare improves in the future and would follow the continental Europe example rather than the US/UK example.

      ohh..Lucia! I completely understand everything you said!
      I also find that housing prices are exaggerated. A recent trend in Dublin is to charge people for just viewing the house!!! I was SHOCKED!!!
      The mold is also a huge problem! I air the whole house every day, keep everything clean and washed, but we still have mold problems .... I'm afraid of people's health here...
      About health care, I recently wanted to get a medical card, but because I earn a little bit more than minimum, I'm not eligible for a free medical help.
      I usually go to Moldova (the country I'm from) for all my health checks.
      Doctors say that the population increases a lot, and the number of doctors stays the same! Huge problem! Terrible for Irish people when they cannot get proper help in their own country :(... luckily we can go back to our countries for healthcare!
      Where are you from Lucia? :) Would really love to connect with you on Instagram! :) like the way you critically think! :)
      I wanted to make another video talking about the negative aspects of living in Ireland! Thank you for such a clear comment! :)

    This video has nothing to do with the actual avg cost of living in Dublin. 500 on rent? you must be either living with 6 people in the house or you are living with the landlord who ...has a weakness for you as a girl....(that's pretty common). I rent double bedroom for 730 euro and it's a reasonable price (average) for a bedroom outside of the city centre. There are many more that are 800-900 eur or around 1000 in city centre. Add 20-25% to her final calculations and you will get the actual cost of the mentioned spendings.

      Life in Dublin is pretty expensive, but you can always spend less money than I do. Try to share the room and pay half of what I pay, use public transport which is much cheaper than having a car, spend less on food and clothes! 😊 When I just came to Ireland this is what i was doing. I didn't do any clothes Shopping, bought just the food I needed, used the public transport and that's it, no going out, no pubs or parties. After a while I was able to earn more money and be able to afford more stuff! 😊👍 If you'll get some support at the beginning or have some savings then you will be okay at the beginning, afte that you can learn the culture, the accent, get more skills and find a better job!😊

    As a local l can say Dublin is extremely cheap to live in,you have shops called Lidl/Aldi and can eat like a King for €50 a week and like a God for €90. Nightlife is incredibly cheap,most Bars have cheap Beer Nights with half price or less for drinks on Mon/Tue/Thur so Very easy to have a good time for very little. I have a Bicycle so have no transport costs and live just 2 km from the City Centre so no need for a car,l suggest you get one as it will save a lot of money. I own my own 5 Bedroom House for decades now so l don't know much about Rent? But it's comparable to Most Major European Cities. Also and most importantly,Dublin is incredibly safe,We have no social issues or any problems with Crime whatsoever and the People are unbelievably friendly,Dublin People will literally do anything for You. There are few Utopias on Earth but Dublin may be very Close. For a cheap Holiday or for Studying it really does'nt get cheaper or Safer than Dublin. Dublin is absolutely AMAZING.

      @AMEditionYT  4 года назад +1

      Hi! I totally agree with what you say! Out of all the Developed countries, Ireland is an affordable one!
      Probably it depends on what you compare Dublin with! :) For me personally it seems expensive just because I am from Moldova which is a developing country. In there I can live with about 200-300 euro a month!
      Also you're very lucky you have your own home! Rent is expensive everywhere in the world! :) Also having your own place gives you so much peace of mind! You don't have to worry about a landlord, or about the fact that you might not have a place to go to if something happens! :)

    • @blurayffan66
      @blurayffan66 4 года назад +7

      Daniel- if you say Dublin is extremely cheap I can only assume you are comparing it to some of the most expensive cities on the planet to live in such as New York, London, San Francisco...because Dublin is in no way cheap and I want to point this out so nobody reading this gets the wrong idea. On a scale of 1 to 10 let's say, and Moldova is an affordable '2' and San Francisco is the highest, most expensive '10'...then I would rate Dublin around a 7-8 for affordability. In other others, not very affordable at all for many people. Yes there may have been plenty of jobs prior to Covid 19, but even then after all expenses, rent, food, etc etc...you have nothing left. Even people on good salaries working at Google, Facebook, Intel etc struggle to save up for a deposit for a mortgage to buy a home. Unfortunately a lot of people just keep going around, and around in circles, making ok money then having nothing left at the end of the month after bills...and eventually move out of Dublin entirely, or overseas. And as far as your comment about 'cheap holidays' well everyone knows Ireland is expensive- that's a fact. Sorry, but I can only assume your whole comment was some kind of joke?...!!! (I am in a good position to comment on the cost of Dublin as I have also lived in the UK and the USA and frequently holiday in Europe). I do agree with you about the friendly people in Dublin and the relatively low crime level.

      Visit or study and then go back to your own country. You will be welcome but overstay and you will be resented , not trusted or like by many section of Irish society- not all. Best to come enjoy, and then leave. Ana can be the nicest person in the world but you can tell she has very limited experience and interaction with Irish people. Lives in a BUBBLE which is the case for so many foreigners in Ireland. After a while this becomes a problem, or uncomfortable even unpleasant. With covid and the huge economic problems coming , thee is growing hostility or disdain for foreigners. Only really just because there are far too many and when in boom times people don't much care. now it is becoming a bigger and bigger issue, bearing in mind Ireland a very small country. Google for example employs less than 10% Irish people and is typical of a certain trend. Resentment and anger this and the effect it has on the country, society, culture are becoming more pronounced and is most clearly shown in the absurd accommodation costs which is basically all to do with mass immigration and open border policies, which could lead to a revolution or chaos and a very unstable country within 10-20 years. Not a good place to create a family and have a good future for the next couple of decades. Holiday/visit, study for a period and then leave is really the best.

Not to mention the vomiting and binging of junk food whilst you are intoxicated? This is a expense that you have to have?

      As for your arguments, enjoying a very good quality spirit or wine from time to time would not result in any of the consequences you mentioned.

    It could be a silly question but I’m curious about pest control.
    I used to live in NYC for four years and I’m now interested in moving in Dublin in the future. In my first two years in NYC, I spent a lot of time and money for mice and roaches in my apartment though my roommate and I were so tidy (actually we cleaned every single week and we took food garbages to garbage can outside every time we cooked).
    Are there a lot of chances that the apartments in Dublin have those creatures and people have to spend money, time, and energy for them?

    • @AMEditionYT
      @AMEditionYT  4 года назад +2

      Hi! It's not a silly question at all. I haven't heard many people talking about this problem and it's not very widespread. I just met one person here who had problems with rats. In this situation the landlord has to provide proper conditions and deals with pests. It shouldn't be your problem. As long as you're paying rent, you should be provided with good and safe living conditions

      @ocodeskamcdbsm 4 года назад +1

      Heya. Just some advice. The cost of living is high in Ireland but Dublin is nearly twice as expensive than any other of the major cities. It's also much harder to get a property or room to rent in Dublin so, I honestly would avoid. The Dublin accent is also one of the hardest to understand but in general the Irish accent is understandable, we just speak a lot faster. Their are plenty of places around the island of Ireland that you can train to become a hairdresser

    • @AMEditionYT
      @AMEditionYT  4 года назад

      Hi! Good luck with your graduation!
      To be honest I think it's better to study hairdressing in Italy (as I suppose it's cheaper in Italy) and then take a short course in Dublin just to receive a certificate.
      This is what many people do, they can take better quality courses in their own countries and they do short courses in Dublin just to get an Irish certificate. :)
      I'd suggest checking the prices.
      I also made a video about how to study English so you can check that out. If you really think about moving to Ireland, start studying today. Practice listening and speaking and maybe take a few classes.

      It is a bit complicated if you work only part-time but everything is possible! You might just have to work extra hours or get some financial support from family! :)
      Also the expenses can be reduced, but this will also reduce the quality of life and no entertainment!

      Wow! 😥😮😮 that's crazy! As far as I know city center is the most expensive. I don't live ckise to the center, so I pay less. 😉 try looking for smth a lil further from the center if it suits you.
      I need an hour to drive to the center, that's why I pay less. And luckily I don't work in there.

      I’m Irish myself and live in the midlands and live in a town centre of 30,000 people. I don’t lock my door all day and also leave the key visibly hanging on my front door handle for us all to come and go and have been doing that for 20 years, no break in’s yet. The cities are like most cities but I’ve always felt surrounded by friends (Irish people love to talk to strangers) in the cities that would come to your rescue quickly when needed, even the roughest looking people would. There is peace now in the north which is great, now I can holiday there and feel safe as I do so love the people and countryside of the north.
