Still love this game to this day. So many fun little glitches to find and exploit as well. Great NES game. And like you said, awesome soundtrack as well.
Ah, the infamous case of "unlimited continues, so long as you know about them". Rygar, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Adventure Island... knowledge was power back then
For real, in this instance it blows my mind because it was really so easy. But since the game was pretty long, I just never tried resuming. So dumb but hilarious in retrospect.
I appreciate that your video is of the ACTUAL game, NOT emulated. The picture is still crisp, without sacrificing the CRT issues that, quite-frankly, we counted on back then. (Like no 8-bit artist put checkerboard patterns to actually make a "checkerboard pattern". No, we did it because we knew the CRT would be fuzzy and "blend" the colors, sort of making another one). And Rygar is one of the handful of examples, where the home was better than the arcade, for sure!
Just watching this now in 2022. Nice retrospective. As an early NES owner (Oct 1985) I was very impressed with early action/adventure games on the NES, with this, Goonies II, Kid Icarus, and Metroid. They felt substantial versus your average simple arcade game. I loved RYGAR, though it really would have benefited from a password save. I recall leaving my NES powered on for a couple days straight while trying to beat it!
It’s really interesting now you used composite video for the NES footage in this video, as with most episodes you use RGB. It seriously shows off how different home port version of old games were back in the day.
Awesome editing! Nice Work. Please Review Pirates of the Dark Water or the Asterix Brawl Game on Arcade (don't know if it ever was released outside the arcade).
Loved the NES version. Since I wasn't familiar with the arcade version (my brother was a master of the arcade version though), I decided to also get Rygar for the Atari Lynx when that came out. I expected to get more of that awesome adventure of the NES version on my Lynx portable, but instead was disappointed it was a port of the arcade. Very boring, and I later dumped the Lynx onto a friend.
This is remarkably similar to my history with _Rygar_, right down to the brother who really liked the arcade game and assumed that the NES version was a port.
Hey, thanks so much! We are going back to weekly videos starting with this one - every Friday at 1pm with Try4ce and I alternating weeks (unless unforeseen situations arise). Thanks again for watching!
I'll never forget that cave theme. I had this for my NES back in the day and could never beat the final boss, no matter all the smart uses of power-ups and health regenerating powers I applied. At one point I gave up, considered the game beaten, thinking it was just one of those NES games with an impossible final boss. Little did I know at the time that the PAL version of this game is bugged and that the final boss is LITERALLY impossible to beat. He has infinite health basically. I felst somewhat vindicated when I read about it a couple of years back.
I used to own a physical copy of the game, but Ill download it through roms and emulators and play thru it again. I was excited when the Game Grumps played it as well. Spent the whole series yelling at my monitor for them to do something they should have done. LOL
Sacrilege! Rygar (Arcade) was not just the best version of Rygar, but the best arcade machine ever for me. Queues snaking around the machine confirmed this back in the day. One of the first arcades to charge 20p a go & it was so worth it. My top score of 4 million will never be equalled, never mind beaten.
The music for this game was just incredible. So many memorable themes.

I always played this game on nes it was my favorite game as a child..
The look on your face at the end is excellent

Nice that the NES version improved so much on the original arcade game. Good retrospective! 👍

Sweet retrospective! Gonna be picking this up on your recommendation. Not sure why I didn't have this already! Glad to have subbed :) #4,000, woot!
CartridgeCanuck An awesome, awesome game.
Came in the mail over Christmas! Playing Silver Surfer right now, but I intend to give this game some time right after. Thanks for the review!

[Try4ce] We didn't have RGB mods for NES when we started the channel.
My Life in Gaming Yeah I know that’s the real reason. But it worked surprisingly well regardless.
Great video, rygar was one of my favorites when back when
Thanks! This was my first time revisiting in a long time, and it really holds up.
All about my light-gun games during my visits to the arcades. Port of Silent Scope really let me down when I got to play it.
Awesome editing! Nice Work. Please Review Pirates of the Dark Water or the Asterix Brawl Game on Arcade (don't know if it ever was released outside the arcade).
I have quite a few of these lined up - I'd love to get into some of the games that I never played as a kid!
I still have an original copy of the NES Game with the box and the wrapping and the instruction booklet for it it is in pristine condition
I bought my copy used from a kid at a yard sale for $25. I hoped it was like the arcade game but I was surprised it was even better.
I never knew the arcade version existed until many years after playing the NES port. To me, the port will always be the better version.

Loved the endcap. Hehe.
haha, the end caps are something I am starting to do on my own vids. they're pretty fun to make (if usually very stupid!)
This is remarkably similar to my history with _Rygar_, right down to the brother who really liked the arcade game and assumed that the NES version was a port.
GXEntertainment haha, isnt that funny? i feel like this is probably a typical thing for people that were kids in the 80s.
Make more vids, ya homp.
They're great. I love them so much.

The first video of yours I saw (this one) also happens to be my favorite NES game. Sir, you have a new subscriber.
Hey thank you! Rygar is a great game, and upon replaying it for this video I was struck just how great it still is.
I used to own a physical copy of the game, but Ill download it through roms and emulators and play thru it again. I was excited when the Game Grumps played it as well. Spent the whole series yelling at my monitor for them to do something they should have done. LOL
I can't found the arcade long version since years of years.
Wow... this would have saved me a lot of time. And here I was passing the game the old fashioned way.
MRCAB Haha, you're telling me! I spent years (decades?!) being afraid of the game.
***** I finally passed it about 7 or 8 years ago while revisiting it. Still didn't know then either.
I loved the Arcade version and thought the NES port was poor. Oh well, each to their own.
They tried to revitalize the Rygar name with a new one on PS2 and Wii, but I hear it's a tragedy of a game.
Darkbeat [Coury] I really want to play it - I know my brother has it and may pass it on to me at some point.
I think it's only the Wii version.
The PS2 version is actually pretty good. It has some interesting ideas for an early PS2 hack n slash and there are some cool enemy designs
Rygar shouldn't have a Nintendo sleeve!
I remember this arcade game with 89 stages of long, and the final boss is a giant warrior with crown ,not the lion man of the 27 stages version.
you look a lot like Warren Fitzgerald.
The NES version rocks! Not so much interest in the Arcade as you mentioned in the video.
Sacrilege!

Never played the nes version only in the arcade and ps4 arcade archives. Yes I agree arcade version is boring and lame. Nes version looks awesome.
Sorry the arcade version is better
If the game is hard its because you dont know how to play it.
