She is a very lovely and relatable lady. RIP Joan 💜
I so loved her in "As Time Goes By"... she was so delightful and funny... and made me think "getting older" wouldn't be so bad... she was just the best and finding out she had so many struggles, yet overcame them only to die from other health conditions... I will always remember this terrific lady with a smile in my heart! Rest In Peace Sweet Joan... you are so missed! xx ❤
Sims was diagnosed with diverticular disease in 1997 and she was admitted to hospital in November 2000, and complications of a routine operation caused her to slip into a coma. Her lifelong friend and stand-in Norah Holland spoke of the doctors' amazement at her strength and courage throughout her final illness.
Almost one year to the day after this interview, she passed away. Bless her soul, what a darling! May she rest in peace, and thank you for the memories you and your cast with the Carry on team, gave me!
Joan was a gem . Lovely lady and a wonderful actress. So sadly missed . RIP
What a lovely lady. So honest
What a lovely lady, always loved her and the rest of the cast of the carry on films. A very frank and open interview, very sad that people can get so depressed that they feel no one can help. Joan has proved that with the will to beat depression you can, she has my undying admiration.🙏❤️
Aww what a lovely lady! Always loved her light and sparkle in anything she's in. She played so many memorable characters, just wonderful ♥Thank you for all the laughs, lovely lady!
This was just under a year before she passed away......I remember because I was really sad when I heard. RIP Joan you were wonderful :)
Wile E Coyote sad
I adored Joan Sims.
I always think it was such a sad thing that she never married or had a family.
Gorgeous lady.
RIP Joan.....you were loved by many.
Reading her autobiography, it's sad that she thought so too.
She seemed a very lovely person.
@@gordontaylor5373 She was always three parts pissed.
I read it was because her father was so upset about her going to live in sin with her then boyfriend/ partner that he said he would disown her. So she never had a real relationship because she wouldn't live with any men before marriage so it never happened for her! 🥲🥲🥲
I love how candid she was about her alcoholism. That interviewer wasn’t ready for it. That’s Joan. Uncompromising and strong as an ox. I love her so much!
yes she really off loads here you can see, brave lady,, a warrior and wonderful soul
Yes strong as an ox is a great description of a Taurus …..
Alice was a good interviewer and allowed Joan to speak without interruption.
Such a humble woman with a beautiful soul. RIP Joan. You are greatly missed ❤
R.I.P Joan, you absolute beautiful legend
Spent time with Joan Sims at Banstead psychiatric hospital whilst we were recovering from alcoholism in the 80's. Lovely woman and a great actress. RIP.
She really was. Hope all is good now for you.
@@ppotter Yes fine now thanks.
I read her autobiography years ago and it made me so sad because for a woman who gave so much pleasure and laughter to so many people, she seemed to have had a quite wretched and lonely life. I can recall that towards the end of the book she says something along the lines of "Who would have thought that i would find myself at this stage in my life, on my own with no family to speak of and living in a rented flat?" So sad.
Joan Sims was for me one of the best Carry On actors to watch growing up. I used to love reciting her parts.
Was so sad when I found out she died, R.I.P Joan.
What is getting to me is the fact that with the Carry On stars is so many talented actors that not only is it shocking of how underrated they became, especially after the films finished, but hearing about how so many of them had lived through such struggles BC many of us just assume that if you live in showbiz then your life is awesome and yet for so many that is never the case.
Thanks for posting this video. It was so heartwarming to see 😇👏
And she was beautiful lady c
Dear Joan, she was extremely versatile in her career. Definitely the best Carry On character.
I agree with that! She was a delight :)
Joan Sims was a joyful woman, she exuded happiness and love.
We miss you Joan.😊
A seemingly honest and candid lady how refreshing. An honestly self aware woman.
What an incredible lady, really good that she spoke about her alcoholism openly as it would have helped many others battling alcoholism to know they weren't alone. Very strong lady and resilient. It's not a bad thing to talk about such topics as it's not always good to be stoic about it.
This is lovely. Joan, along with the other Carry On cast (and others of their generation) formed such a huge part of my wonderful childhood. Thanks to you all.
Fabulous lady. Rest in peace Joan xx
Rest in peace Joan Simms a lovely lady and a great funny actress much missed
I've loved her growing up with the carry on films. And now I love the her even more, for her honesty & truthfulness. God bless you Joan xx
Queen of the Carry on without a doubt
Very well put.
Joan and hattie.
@@ashdavidson9585 Hattie talking to the budgerigar in Carry On At Your Convenience, is one of the greatest scenes ever.
this was so good to watch... a world of entertainment sadly frowned on now and gone forever. the carry one films are not easy to watch now but oh how they crept into my childhood and set up home there
Loved the carry on films, soundtrack to my growing up. What an incredible beautiful human being she was. RIP
to think she passed less than 12 months after this interview. rip. she was a great actress and hilarious in the carry on films
Marvellous interview which revealed that Joan must have been perfect to work with;absolutely lacking in ego and showing respect for her colleagues.
It is a strange thing to say, but you feel like hugging her. Such a talented performer and such a vulnerable person.
Great interview with an incredible actress, underrated for far too long. Much loved and much missed
Iv always loved Joan Sims great actress plus that laugh
We have lost so many wonderful people and Joan is one of them. May her dear soul rest in peace.
I'm so glad she had time to write her book. It was a wonderful read.
She had guts as well as talent.
Thanks to her skillfully and superbly rendered characterisations, she now occupies a small niche in the place that is the popular national consciousness of the last half century, and, I might add, within a tradition of such characterisations that goes back far longer in theatrical history, as far back as Chaucer.
God bless her.
Thanks for all the great laughs Joan..!
Joan was wonderful. Glad to know she pulled out of her depression and alcoholic slump before she departed this mortal life.
My childhood would not have been complete without Joan Sims. She was a legend.
A truly great Briton firstly, and a wonderful actress of very happy memory for me, 1950'S, 1960's,1970's,1980's,1990's to her death.Unforgettable!
The Carry on team are still adored by We Brits.
The irony is she passed on not long after this show. May her essence be free from suffering in her new astral life. 🙏🏼💓
Oh Joan was so lovely and a master at her craft. She made the Carry ons with that spark that is Joan.Rest in peace wonderful Joan.
What a remarkable person Joan Sims was.
I love Joan Simms she was so funny in the Carry On films and seems to be a delightful person.
A very natural unnaffected lady.
RIP.
Lovely woman with a heart as big as the world Such a great beauty with a huge talent RIP Joan Sims xx
Brilliant interview & RIP Joan.
An icon of the Carry On series and made my life and many others a happier place👏👏👏👏🇦🇺
Carry on Don't Lose Your Head is by far my favourite Carry On and it's because of Joan as Countess Desiree. She's so refined in her opening scene until she asks Peter Butterworth: "What are you gawping at?" and she's hilarious throughout. "Oh, not that old thing. It's got false teeth in it".
She really was perfection, wasn't she :)
My favourite was when after the widow was smashed Kenneth Williams said 'hundreds of years old, stained glass' Joan's responce 'well if was stained it needed replacing'
Such a sweet kind lady.
God bless you Joan with love ❤️
What an inspiration !! I have watched so many of her carry on movies and still do .. and shes an amazing person and i am glad to watch this interview .. loved the way the she said she prayed and prayed !! Yes, It is God, who always helps and everyone should do that ..
Well, she was still agnostic about His existence.
love joan sims wrote to her just before she died she wrote me a lovely letter i treasure it miss her so much hugh cole
A memory to treasure my friend ,,
Best
Wishes x 💛
An amazing lady and a very honest, candid interview. Being "stars", we always assume they live/lived the good life, but they are only human.
Love Joan Simms but truly sad that her personal life was so poor used by men ,and suffered from depression, and when Hattie died she was truly heartbroken, and as she was dieing one of her best friend's held her hand and said you have to go now Hattie and Kenneth in Williams and the rest of the gang are up there waiting for you, and after saying this she passed away ,truly beautiful lady who deserved better.
Every character she played was the very finest, thanks for making me laugh Joan, loved you
Not sure why she was always cast as a 'plain Jane' or (worse) as an 'ugly girl' in so many films. She was a very pretty young woman in the 50s/60s. Excellent comedian too.
Always cast as a 'plain Jane'? I can only remember her in sexy 'fullblown rose' roles. She was always a delight.
@@egparis18 I loved Esme Crowfoot, corset maker, from Carry On Loving
-
ALL COCK
She was often cast as “the trouble and strife” or a buxom blonde. Played both and so many other great parts so well. A wonderful actress.
@@buckbumble agree. possibly the most versatile carry on actor.
Loved Joan Sims, grew up watching the Carry On films and in my mind Joan stood out for me she was so natural and funny and very attractive. Watching this interview made me sad, I was unaware she had those aweful illnesses in her life and she so deserved to have been happily married just never met the right one sadly..I bet there were many men out there who would have loved to have married Joan..lovely lady r.i.p Joan Sims
Lovely lady! National Treasure!
Joan you gave me the happiest movie memories from my childhood, in particular the bedroom scene with Sid James in Carry on Abroad. I still cry with laughter when I watch it today. Thank you for the laughs.
Such a wonderfully honest lady, and one of my favourites in the Carry Ons. I wish I had met her.
What a lovely woman..and honest ..love you Joan x♥x
Yes a beautiful woman and terrific actress r.i.p Joan.....
After growing up with all of the carry on movies and seeing young Joan so much, it is so weird seeing Joan so much older! Wonderful actress! RIP
Beautiful angel
What a lovely woman . I wish i could have met her
What a lovely lady! God bless our precious Joanie. Sleep tight sweetheart.
Beautiful lovely lady ❤
I have happy memories of watching carry on from my childhood and Joan will one my favorite actress ❤.
Me too :)
Lovely lady..🌟❤ thank you for my childhood memories growing up with carry on movies.
Such a delightful lady and funny as an only child I can relate to what she was saying.
She avoids saying her parents were cold and cruel. Bad parents cause much misery, long after they're gone
I'm glad she avoids it. It's not always necessary to say these things at interview.
What a stunning woman💔🇬🇧
Charlie B she was beautiful 💞
19 years ago. I remember the millennium, the year 2000. Wish i could go back to that year...Lovely lady Joan. Greatly missed
Wonderful, wonderful Joan. What a lovely talented lady ! So sad she never found that right person to enjoy life with.
She is wonderful! I'm going to get that book!
I think i smiled probably the whole entire time watching this awesome video☺️Thank you for the laughs ! RIP Joan Sims🥰❤️❤️❤️
I regularly visit the station where she grew up, the only mention of her roots there is a little plaque that is easy to miss, impossible to imagine her there now, of course its been changed and added to so much since then
I read that as it came up in notifications, and knew exactly who you were talking about. She's much missed :)
Joan Sims bless her...
Sad to know she passed away just a year later, at 71! :-(
Lovely lady and nice interview
Joan is wonderful she's one of the best actresses ever. I love this interview and what l enjoyed the most is her honestly. Wishing l had the chance to meet her. X 😊😊😊😊🐱🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
What a lovely open and frank person.
Such an amazing lady 😍 a huge part of my growing up
What a lovely lady. So beautiful in many ways inside and outwardly. I will read her autobiography one day.
7:34 - 10:07 This is really powerful and almost mesmerising in its pure honesty.
Alice Beer's follow-up question feels like a ham-fisted, contrived and slightly inappropriate response to the way Joan Sims had just opened up to her.
Wonderful Lady so brave, and a fighter.
Joan sims had a
A kind of sadness
But on the carry on she gave sooo much laughter and fun
But than again we all have our battles
Life cannot be perfect all the time !
The first show I saw Joan Sims in was "As Time Goes By" and loved her on there! I watched the show on PBS here in America. Now that I've been watching Kenneth Williams (Michael? I mean Kenneth!) videos too, I have started getting into the "Carry On" series of films. British humor takes all forms and it is wonderful!
Same here! ❤
What a lovely lady she was
I love her. She is so approachable and lovely. xx
Very eloquent. Her voice also has a lovely quality to it
I could watch Joan all day and listen to her. Such a wonderful lady. Brought so much to the acting world.
Would love to have met her, you could imagine sitting down having a chat and a coffee with her. ❤ hattie Jakes and Joan Sims you can just imagine their wonderful friendship to really lovely ladies.
Great to hear that they had this fantastic friendship .
Truly lovely lady and deserved so much more regarding relationships ,sadly use truly sad,and sweet bud sad story when she was dying, and as her best friend held her hand she whispered in Joan's ear that Hattie's and the gang were waiting in heaven for her now go be with them, then at that moment she closed her eyes for the last time
🌹💜
Yes that's correct
Rip
Ms Joan sims
Joan sims was/is a legend
It’s not wright the carry on cast had far to short lives. Poor Joan an absolute legend long live carry on.
What a beautiful women. I'd kill to go back in time and meet the gang! (I wouldn't really kill)
All fantastic in the carry ons ♥️
What a lovely lady 💟
God love her, what a lovely lady.
Great interview
Joan sims was a LOvely kind LADY
💞🎬
Sadly missed she was Ms carry on along with Dame Barbara Windsor XXX 🌹🌸💛
Both reunited along with the fellow cast of the carry on..
Heartbreaking to hear that this wonderful lady who gave so much joy to others suffered with debilitating depression and alcoholism. Absolutely tragic. My favourite of all the carry on team and given the chance would have made a terrific serious actress. God bless you Joan. Xxx
A very underrated actress
ONCE THE MOVIES CARRY ON 🤫SHE'LL ALWAYS LIVE ON,,, RIP Joan
Terrific actress. Felt like we always knew her. Sad to know she's no longer here. Khyber was her best moment and possibly the best Carry On.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
From a mad keen 76yo Aussie fan.
One of the finest Comedy actresses,of all time.
