I wasn’t able to attend Gamescom this year, but I’ve been a Black Desert player since day one. Pearl Abyss can be criticized in many areas, and the passionate player base often does so willingly. However, there’s one thing we all agree on: the combat system in Black Desert is breathtaking. It’s incredibly hard to get into this combat system without guidance, especially if you're used to "souls-like" combat or the typical MMO tab-targeting system. I think it’s nearly impossible to get "good" results right away if you’re unfamiliar with the system. For many players, depending on the class, BDO feels very clunky at first. But this feeling fades the more you learn about the system. So if the combat in the new game builds on Black Desert’s, I can definitely understand why many testers are struggling. An example mouse and keyboard combo for the BDO Corsair class would be: F-F-F - Shift+Q - S+F - S+RMB - S+C - Shift+RMB - RMB - Shift+LMB - S+E - RMB - Shift+E This sequence highlights the fluid and complex nature of BDO’s combat system, requiring quick inputs and precise timing for each ability.
Yep depends on which class clicks for you. I played a few years ago on a sorc. Didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would(but i'll progress her later since i'm hooked again)Came back this year on Drakania. And Damn if i don't want to spend hundreds of hours mastering this greatsword dragon mommy. As a gs enjoyer her moveset is one of the most satisfying gameplays for me even outside of mmos. The learning curve, inputs and mastery is definitely more reminiscent of a fighting game character that takes more time to learn than a typical action-rpg. It even has the input and combo inputs on by default near your character(turn off once you get comfy). You'll pick up the basics quickly and can still progress with just that. But you have to dive deeper if you want to be efficient in grinding, challenging and competitive content. I'll expect the same thing here in Crimson Desert. Goodluck on the controllers though. This still sounds like it's optimized for kbm controlwise if it's anything like bdo with the millions of directional attack/skill modifiers. Also if there's one thing I have learned from playing BDO it's that the world is densely packed to the brim. Awful pop-ins aside, the amount of npcs and stuff you can interact with is astounding. It makes the world feel lived in and more immersive than any other single player rpg out there to the point that it can be so overwhelming that you need a guide for everything as if you've just been dropped on a different populated planet. If only they'd update the engine to fix the pop-ins at least. I hope Crimson Desert has some of that hardcore sandbox depth too to rp around after the msq. I've always fiddled with Witcher 3 mods to try and give that game fun repeatable content like witcher contracts and random encounters. Black Desert is already like that but with better combat and a whole Stardew Valley game on top of it. This will be easy for PA.
As a BDO console player with like 5 characters (Maegu, Woosa, Tamer, Corsair and Nova) I resonate with this. Not a D1 player, but I've been an invested casual for a couple of years now, and you hit the nail on the head. The pop-ins are annoying, gotta fidget with your settings to clear your screen of unnecessary stuff (Oryyyt touched on that, remove when comfy) and the combat feels clunky at first. That's about it for the negatives for me, everything else is breathtaking and, once you get the combat system down, you can really enjoy the game. Excited for CD, really hoping PA comes through
@@benzhq563 weakness? this is what's great about black desert, you can turn down almost every graphic effects, like skill effect and opacity, camera effect, montion blur, zoom effect, camera shake. you can make black desert to look like runescape if you want by turn down the graphic setting all the way to 0 or look like AAA games at 100% ( at least on black desert pc, i heard there is no graphic setting on black desert console ).
Black Desert always had the best combat in ANY MMO, but only if you played it like a fighting game with doing specific inputs instead of the usual "1-9" keypresses, if you play it like that it's gonna be boring and feel bad. So I hoped Crimson Desert went with the same logic and it's amazing to hear that they did, yes actually slowly getting to know these combos will be a lot better than having to learn all of them from the start. It honestly sucks cause it sounds like everyone is just gonna get overwhelmed and have a bad time with the Demo here. (Not bad time, but it could be a lot better) Usually these type of games are a lot more fun the simpler you start out cause you appreciate everything you get later on a lot more, if you just have everything from the get go it gets boring quick, specially since you barely know what you are doing. I don't think people quite understand yet how impressive the combat is gonna be in this, it's gonna be like what you expected DD2 to be. ( From what I heared DD2 combat is still very good, but it lacks in comparison to DD1). No one is gonna see it coming how good this game will be, I hope the story will be somewhat interesting, but I know people who enjoy gameplay and combat will love this. I also don't think it's very much comparable to DMC, it might feel like that because of the overwhelming amount of inputs from the start, but it's gonna be more like a very heavy feeling Dragons Dogma type of combat.
I really hope crimson desert is going to be THAT one open world rpg game that's gonna break the weird tradition of having boring combat in open world rpg games for some reason, like dragons dogma 1 and 2 are the only true open world story driven RPG games that I've seen that have really good combat but a lot of times combat seems to be an afterthought in most rpg games like Skyrim witcher 3 and fallout games. Crimson desert finally seems like a game that is ready to take risks and break the mould and introduce a new level and standard that might just be the norm for years to come, depending on the impact crimson desert will have on the gaming industry. From what I've seen in their dev documentaries on their channel crimson desert really feels like a project with a lot of passion poured into it with many great and unique ideas by the devs which will make this game stand out from the rest of the games released up until now. These features Include dragon riding (with a small comment made by a dev how the dragon's and our protagonist stories are interesting and will probably show more dragonrider to dragon connection) and also the mercenary strife and struggle they are aiming for in their story. I've been hyped about this game ever since they released that trailer in 2019 and I truly hope this game will turn out to be one of the best of all times
@@JamesNalacar While I'm still going off visuals, which I'm usually very good good, it's just hoped that I'm going off too. But knowing what Pearl Abyss is capable of in terms of gameplay just screams that this hardly cannot be a hit.
