I remember absolutely loving this movie as a kid, and part of me still loves it as an adult. It easily reaches "so bad it's good" territory. I love how every character gets a cameo, and if you're gonna have a shit film, might as well appeal to the marks.

Using music from Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins and the first movie's Original Score soundtrack during the Aftermath...utter perfection! PS - as someone mentioned earlier, the one sole, solitary shining light from MK:Annihilation is absolutely the soundtrack!
The Elder Gods attitude about intervention felt like the cops in a lifetime movie; "We're not going to stop the evil emperor Shao Kahn from violating our own policies and invading Earth but we are going to actively prevent you from using your godly powers to help the humans."😂
to be fair I think Musetta Vander (Sindel) is a so-bad-they're-good actress, she's always entertaining to watch hamming it up to the max. Doing a similar job as the leather-clad whip-toting, Lash in Oblivion 1 & 2.
I was so excited for this when it came out. I was born in '83 and most of the sequels that had come out in my childhood were decent or I was too dumb to know different. I was too young to know about studio politics so I was pumped for this to be even better. It also happens to be the first movie that remember recognizing as bad while sitting in the theater.
This and Batman & Robin were quite the 1-2 punch of suckitude in 97. Was a massive mark for MK1 and Batman Forever. Even as a kid those two turkeys let me down massively.
Have to say, I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. Terrible effects didn't look as bad on terrible TV, I thought music was the coolest and I think just sheer power of my imagination made fights much better than they were. What Maffew said about Cyrax jumping resonates with me, holy shit did you see how cool that flip to the beat drop was???
I'm not even exaggerating when I say I've seen this movie like 50 times AT LEAST. Had it on VHS as a kid, watched it over and over and over because it was flashy and had ninjas and stupid flips. This and The Phantom Menace (same reason, had it on VHS as a kid) are the two movies I've watched the most throughout my life. I made some poor life choices even as a child.
Don't feel bad, I've watched Phantom Menace more than any other star wars film! I think it's because I kept feeling that it couldn't be horrible, I just didn't get it

It would have been more accurate if the actors playing Kitana and Jade switched roles, because they look far more like each other's current video game counterparts.
Also, if you look at the shot of Barrakka/ Rain going into the fire, you can see a hand reach up to catch the falling body just before the flames rise. lol

Saw this on Thanksgiving day on opening weekend with my cousins. There were maybe 6 other people in the theater. I was legitimately angry when we left.
Went to see this one in cinema while I was underage... Yeahhh, kinda wish I'd done that for the first movie instead..thought it was alright at the time. 😂😭 Her acting was bad but I fancied the pants off Sindel's actress. 😂 These days..the best part about this is the bassier version of the main theme. 😬

My favorite part of this movie is the phrase on the poster: "Nothing can prepare you!" And they were right, nothing could have prepared me at 13 to experience this movie. It was bad then, and I've found it worse and worse as I get older. However, despite being a massive MK mark, I always have a laugh watching this every few years...and making it a drinking game, of course. Great review and information surrounding it.
Oh man showing my stripes here when everyone is like "Hey Brian Thompson was the villain in Cobra" while I recognize him from his many appearances in Star Trek. TNG once, twice as different characters in DS9, a 3 episode arc in Enterprise and Star Trek Generations. He's even done some DVD commentary and convention appearances.
I always thought this movie was a "direct to video" sequel with no budget. My 12 year old self was so wrong. Even at 12 I knew this thing was bad, but seeing it as an adult....holy crap.

I always thought this movie was a "direct to video" sequel with no budget. My 12 year old self was so wrong.
