    I use 5-40 full synthethic and change about every 10.000km. A filter every 5000 just to clean it a bit more. Never had problem with it and runs great. I wouldnt run 10-40 unless it's an emergency

  • @MrSahlensguy
    @MrSahlensguy 3 года назад +1

    Conventional oil every 3,000 miles or full synthetic every 10,000 miles. Take your pick. The cool thing about having the oil filter on top is you can change the synthetic oil every 10,000 miles and the filter every 5,000 miles. Use an oil extractor and you don't even need to go under the car.

  • @zDeQz
    @zDeQz 8 лет назад +9

    I would never recommend you using an aftermarket oil filter let alone a FRAM filter...that's why the thing was blacker than asphalt. An OEM BMW filter is $12 or $8 if you're an employee at the dealer/you get it offline.

    • @bloodcarver913
      @bloodcarver913 5 лет назад

      OEM original filters for BMW is made by MANN. Never use anything else. They are also cheap to buy.

  • @4711Express
    @4711Express 6 лет назад

    It helps to drain the new filter with clean oil first before mounting it, sometimes the push of the oil pump can wrinkle the filter if it is completely dry. My late BMW expert prefers using MANN too on the other hand I have different oil filters in use.

    Oil for BMW (EU) X5 E53 X5 3.0i (1999-2003) (M54) either with particulate filter and or turbo needs 5W30 according specification ACEA C3, API SN, MB-Approval 229.51/229.52, Approved under VW 505.00/505.01, GM Dexos 2, BMW Longlife-04 or 5W40 specified for ACEA C3, API SN/CF, BMW Longlife-04, MB-Approval 229.51, Approved under VW 505.00/505.01, GM dexos 2, Porsche A40, Ford M2C917-A or 5W30 specified for ACEA C3, API SN, Approved under VW 504.00/507.00, MB-Approval 229.51, BMW Longlife-04, Porsche C30.
    Always try to protect your particulate filter and the turbo and with a little more money to spend on the oil it will hold for many miles. My diesel BMW does about 15.000 miles with 1 oil change, it has to endure 3700 rpm like 75% of the time driving it top speed on the German Autobahn but it also gets to work hard AFTER the engine reaches it normal working temperature which is like 10 miles driving under normal weather conditions plus it receives a cooling down to spare the turbo after working hard. Done 300.000 miles that way and still clean.
    On mobiloil.com site it says: (BMW X5 2003 3.0i 6 cil 3.0 (M54) (GAS)) your vehicle manufacturer recommends a 5W-30 viscosity and oil that meets BMW Longlife-01. We currently do not offer any motor oils in the United States that meet these specifications. The recommended oil filter is 1C-252/M1C-252A.

  • @stefanb8526
    @stefanb8526 7 лет назад +2

    In my opinion suggesting to use a different viscosity oil (going from the factory full synthetic 5w30 to regular 10w40) is completely ridiculous. One could argue the difference with some synthetic blend vs full.

  • @1BMWdrvr1

    Still waiting to hear news about my car. If they don't do anything "special" like finding and fixing whatever code was set, I just paid 365 for an oil change and pressure sensor that I may not have needed if the filter was (twisted) like you said (flickering red light at stoplights after hard/hot runs). Hell being old and dependant on the dealer.

    Has anyone ever heard of FCP Euro? All of their parts are backed by a lifetime guarantee. Even wear parts like oil and brakes. I ordered an oil change kit for my E92, when it was time for a new oil change I ordered another oil change kit from them, sent back the old oil and filter and I get refunded. $13 to ship the old oil, so that's how much it cost me to change my oil. Genuine BMW Twin Power Turbo oil and filter. check them out. Top notch service too. FCP Euro.

  • @mporter7500
    @mporter7500 7 лет назад

    First I have to say that I use the factory recommended viscosity and type of oil but my car only has 60,000 miles. Second for all of the commenters criticizing him for using higher viscosity conventional oil many of the cars he is working on have 150,000 plus miles, some 200,000 plus, and using the conventional higher viscosity oil is probably beneficial. BMW and all other modern auto engines have very tight tolerances and benefit from light viscosity synthetic oils but after a couple of hundred thousand miles everything has worn and numerous leak points have likely cropped up. Using light synthetic oils would likely increase burn and leak rates so he is smart to use heavier conventional oil on these cars.

    I would love your opinion on breather filters on the outlet from the vanos cover and on the oil filler tube VS oil catch cans and plugs. Would you prefer one over the other? If I do this, I want to do it once the best/right way. Thanks in advance

    normally I change my oil every 3000 miles, I only drive 4 miles a day, maybe 3 times a year. Would my 98 E38 be ok using SuperTech full synthetic with a MANN filter? I'm the second owner and it only has 133,000 miles. Thanks for all your informative videos. Even though I'm new to the bimmer scene, I've learned so much from you.
