And you're dead right, 250-odd hp sounds like nothing in today's era, but with the right set of diff gears would be fairly spritely on the street. Certainly a mid-low 13 second pass if the dude can pedal. Been pushing 330rwhp through my T5 for many many years on an unopened 304 with 11psi and while 3rd gear has a liiiiitle bit of noise, im surprised it hasnt let go yet haha. I do try to give it a fighting chance though. no flat shifting etc. Great series, well done blokes!
It does sound good. I've also always loved the sound of the old 253, for some reason it had something wholesome and modest about the sound that the 308 and the 350 didn't seem to have.
What a nice rig, I've got a VS Caprice with a 5L as well, they sound mint. These old girls seem to attract a bit of attention from Gen X, there's always some bloke in his mid 40s who comes over for a chat when they see a VR/VS SS or 5L Statto/Caprice at the servo.

I'm biased since I have a VS SS Ute but in my opinion, the 5L is the nicest sounding V8. We all knew the bunch of bananas manifold would be restricting. Very enjoyable to watch. My BMW E61 3L NA 6cyl is faster then my Ute but the Ute is more fun
The old 5l is far from A modern v8 but they are not worthless,they have the torque down low in the rpm range witch make them fun to drive if u dont like revs they are reliable and they are not the worst with fuel if not been floored and they sound so awesome vs any other v8..
Ive got the vs ss. Similar colour same bonnet too. Basically looks like my car besides wheels n ride hight. Even got the clubby kit on it. Spun me out when i seen yours and have watched the series😎👍. Anyways all vs come out with speedo out by 5 kmh. 100kmh is actually 95kmh. Holdens attempt at slowing everyone down on the roads. I'd do a leakdown test then compression test when it's properly warmed rite up to make sure no lions have escaped the top paddock. Aren't they around 250hp stock? (185kw)??

My wrx 2L turbo got 215 kw at all wheels. 2018 model pretty stoked only weighs 1500kg Turbo back indiva exhaust process west verti cooler and air intake.
iron kitten ..fan of the holden 308 and 304 thats kinda depressing .. plus u showed hp when really the old girls are all about torque.. there's quiet alot of after market high end gear coming out now higgins heads
I would be all about a TP Manifold! But unfortunately they are in the same boat. Impossible to get. Anything from TP at the moment is hard, we wanted to use their bellhousing for the Barra-T400 HQ we are building but couldnt get one of those either.
The 5l, just sounds so much better than a LS, sounds like a proper V8, Aussie muscle 💪👌

185kw is rated at the crank, not the wheels.
