I was always wondering how you checked CG on a chopper! Now I know 👍 looks like a lot of birds hanging around the flying field.. great stuff Ian thank you!
Well done, Ian. You make very good points about advice not being a replacement for personal experience, and the beneficial learning process that comes with it. You were flying it well, you landed spot on dead center on that tiny helipad! I'm getting another 230s (V3). My V2 was poor in idle up modes with the RTF radio. But I'll soon have a DX6e for my recently acquired Maule M7, so I can use that to properly trim out the helicopter in idle up modes I think.
Great video as always mate, I noticed on your attitude trim settings video as far as I could see your not running the latest flybarless firmware, that's what the guy from horizon said causes all the issues on these Helis as it has a bug. I ordered my spektrum cable yesterday so I'll be updating it all tomorrow if it arrives. Might be worth a shot, the guy was adamant that's what causes the issues so may be worth a try :) I'll let u know how mine goes.
Hi Harley, I updated the firmware and then I couldnt get my receiver to bind at all so I put it back to the original firmware!! The same thing happened on my other 2 FC6250HX Gyros as well!! But they might have sorted it now so I'll see how you get on and then if it works I'll give it a go 😄👍
First thing is first...congratulations on your first grand child Isabelle!! That is awesome! I enjoyed your longer video Ian. I'm not a heli guy but I understand wanting to help everybody you can...we only intended one Bison video, and we ended up doing two more to try and help those we recognized were struggling. You are right too about experience level having a lot to do with it...so many want to blame the plane/heli when to be honest a lot of times it is user error, but they don't have the experience to know it. I like your approach...very informative. The antenna/range test info was spot on...using that telemetry to see how it is performing. Most Spektrum users don't know what fades, frame losses, and holds even are...or where in the TX to go to check it. I think you really dove in to this Ian...I'm sure this info will help some 330 users. Shame the RTF version gives you just enough control to crash. Really a great video. Cheryl is a trooper to be in that cold with you...what a great gal!
Thank you Adam, yes the 330s I get so many messages about this Heli, always the same issue!! I discovered that it's caused by the factory settings in the Gyro!! They put trim on to compensate for the torque of the main blades!! But it's to much and causes the Heli to drift out of control, the funny thing is some of them then lecture me on the physics of a model Heli, I normally reply well my Heli is flying well it's you that have got the issues Lol But I guess that's the nature of the RUclips beast!! Expert Trolls I call them Lol At the end if the day if it helps one viewer I'll be happy as Horizon don't seem to be that bothered about the issues with this Heli, yes where would we be without the girls Lol they add so much to our channels!! I wish I'd seen your video before I tried to fly mine. I fly fixed wing and wanted to try helis. The 330 looked a sensible size to start on. I'm also a fullscale heli pilot of >30yrs. On takeoff it rolled over and the pitch change links bent and a servo reversed. Now being repaired at Logic RC. I now have the 230 and it's a better size to start on but it suffers from exactly the same drifting issues as the 330 which resulted in a broken tail boom when I ran out of cyclic control to stop it drifting left. Thanks for this video
Hi Tommy, that's a shame that you didn't see the video!! With the 230s have you followed the manual and carried out a trim flight, it cured my drift on my 230s and I've had no problems for a couple of years!! With the 330s I found by adjusting the attitude settings and adding some positive expo you can stop the leaning around and the drift as well, feel free to drop me a message if your still having problems and I will gladly help if I can!!
