  • In this video I share a few thoughts about how important experimentation is to my art practice. I often try things out, experiment and explore as a way of finding an entry point to develop.

We need to give ourselves as artists permission to play with our art materials and journals/sketchbooks because this is how we learn ❤ when I was in the tight grip of a 4 year long creative block, my self esteem at an all time low something (or someone...my late Mum perhaps?) told me to watch RUclips tutorials on art which is how I stumbled upon your channel Helen (and I am so happy I did!). I now give myself permission to play and experiment with different media and I am enjoying it immensely!

@@HelenWellsArtist thank you Helen, yes it was a pretty dark time for me. However I am recovering now and that is such a relief! In fact I am working on a double page spread in one of my old journals 😁 inspired by your beautiful art Helen 🎨 using felt tip markers, permanent markers and gel pens! Happy creating Helen and keep those videos coming! 😘❤💚

"Hot Mess", love it, sounds so fun and freeing! I need to make more fast and free "hot messes". Thank you for giving us the will to go forth and let joy into our art time.

Well there no oneway, but I would suggest taking time to really notice the elements you are drawn too.. the quality of the mark, the combinations, the juxtapositoons, the overlaps, what you like, what you you think looks good…it’s a process of taking note and tuning into the small passages and details which excite you x
