Joel Salatin recommends taking water from 16 inches deep in a pond. Several reasons for that you can research. Iv pumped pond eater and too near the base it disturbs the murky bottom and fouls it of course.
Nice idea and I love your inventiveness. I’m 74 and share your vision to see young farmers and hope to help many do so also

Obviously I was not clear but 16” below the surface and way above the bottom. I think any fungus or scum that grows from sunlight is above 16”. Romans 8. The creation groans for the coming of the children of God. That’s you and me!

That is a neat setup! Another trick is when I stick a hose down into a pond to suck water with a pump, it helps to wrap metal hardware cloth or wire mesh (building a cage) around your existing filter and it will help keep the bigger debris from getting sucked up against it and clogging it.

@@theShepherdess any update on the system?

Great idea. Did the same here on my farm. One thing you could add is a maxmoral water level pump controller side switch on to your water containers. I don’t believe the float you have only shuts off the water and doesn’t kill the pump motor. This will save your pump. Be blessed!

Float the intake filter 10" below the surface and it should fix any clogging issues.

The harbor freight solar panels are actually pretty good. A single 100w panel runs the entire DC system on my camper day and night. The battery is not the best but it will last a while considering how little you will need to run it. It will likely take a while to charge the battery back to full capacity with that small 7 watt panel.
If you end up liking the system it would be fairly easy to create a mini pump house to feed the water anywhere. I would suggest flexzilla hose instead of the typical water hose as it will last a lot longer.

i have had that sort of idea, i seen a cart with solar panels on it and the pump and hoses were stored under the panels when not in use, just never got around to making it as i have no land, livestock, or anything i need to pump water for at the moment, just thinking it would come in handy for the house some day, to fill a cistern , thank you for the tips!!

Your project approach is the same as the long running , mother earth news magazine. I visited them and met the long time project creator who explained their process before the final print issue of the projects.

Now build a pond on the highest point on the property and use that solar pump to fill it. THEN, gravity flow to anywhere on the property!

if you are not pumping too much water that set up may be all you need. if you run into trouble not having enough energy keep in mind that those pumps are high Amp users. try to find a pump that uses less amps.

How about putting a sprinkler on the end of the house and try irrigating your pastures with it. Make sure to make another video when you do it.

I love your ideas. Did you run it with the batery or the solar pannel? Or you charge the batery separately with solar and you pump with only the pump. Blessings from OsoYolo in Antigua Guatemala.

To get the supply link , you have to sign up to get their emails. But what REALLY SUCKS is that when you get the supply list, EVERY link just goes to the general Harbor Freight website and NOT to the specific supplies she used…. UNSUBSCRIBED!
