Well, I was a U-11, 13, 15 and 17 goalkeeper in Brasil. I didn't make it as a pro because of my poor health. Anyway, I think I can analyse her properly: technically, she looks pretty solid. Good to know that she is a Chelsea player now! About the video, she seems to have some troubles with those knuckle balls, but that kind of shot is not that common in women's football, to be fair. But, seriously, girl's technically as good as I expected her to be. The problem is, as a woman, she obviously can't jump like a man. I can see why many would compare her to male goalkeepers, since that's what most of us are used to, but I believe that even if women's football doesn't have the same level as men's football that doesn't mean that there are no good female players or that we should ridicule them for playing a sport they love. That being said, they get ridiculed when they fight for making the same amount as the men do, when there are very clear differences and shortcomings in the women’s game versus the men’s. They have very low average attendance and viewership worldwide when compared with the men, it’s not even close. Sponsorships and endorsements are also very one-sided in favor of the men. These lower numbers translate into lower overall revenue for the sport, which means the women get paid less. It’s not sexist to think so.

Goalkeepers (and defenders to a lesser extent) are the one thing that need massive improvement in Women's Football. Not comparing them to men's, but they can hold their own and be fun to watch sometimes. Just need to improve the defensive part of the game.
Problem with goalkeepers in women’s football aren’t technique or anything. She had great diving techniques and so on. Problem is compared to men they naturally lack both the height and the muscle ability to jump as high. With both less genetics to jump and shorter height the reach is very very different. You can’t compare them to men. It’s not fair. Let’s say a male gk is 190cm and jumps 25% higher then the 175cm female gk. ofc she will never be able to get the same shots.
The goal should be smaller. After all women are smaller and cant jump as high/far as men. Tbh she did better than expected and many times her size was the reason she couldnt catch the ball.

Ill edit what i said for clarity. She has a great lower body, its attractive which is not the point, but its useful for speed and power. So she is ok there. Im unable to say if she actually tried to defend or if she was in practice mode, not as try hard. But given what i have seen. Im not a pro, but i played as goalkeeper for some solid 6 years. I wasnt the best, but i learned a thing or 2. I learned that most of the shooters are righties. And a rightie will trow a faster shoot to his right than to his left. Not that isnt doable, its just what it happens on a regular play. Can change on free kicks, but the principle still more or less apply. Same with lefties, but on the opposite sides. Also possible is to throw accurate at high speeds, but if you were to graph it, the faster the shot, the less accurate it is. So a rightie throwing to his left, probably a fast shot, if he throws to his right, more accurate, usually to the angles or closer to the post. Opposite with lefties. Having said that, as a keeper, if the player is not shooting from the center of the goal, either skewed to the right or left, you need to position accordingly. The best set up is to lean to the opposite side of the shot, the distance is proportional to the keepers reach. For instance. If the shot is coming from the right of the keeper, the keeper has to go left(Weak side, harder to reach on a backwards jump). That is because if you are not there to defend that slow angle shot that is dropping, ill be almost impossible to reach, as you will have to jump backwards. If the shooter aims for the open area (ill call that the strong side), all the momentum that you get with 2-3 steps will allow you to reach almost any part of that open area. If its fast and accurate, there is nothing you can do anyways. If its accurate, you will reach, if its fast but not accurate, it will either go out or ill be an easy shot at mid height, the keeper should be able to reach that with the momentum it built. If the shot comes from the opposite side, well the keeper has to go to the right, same reasons. The shots from the middle are a coin flip. Again, i dont know if she was in tryhard mode or not (probably not) but her reach and reflexes are subpar. But what it worries me is that she has the most atrocious positioning i have ever seen. Shot @3:16 is the perfect and specific example of what i said (@3:42 is the same shot basically, just didnt go it, but so you get the point). That exact shot is the reason of the set up i just mentioned. Its almost impossible to reach from where she stands, Had she been where i said, she would have like 60-70% chance to block it, by positioning itself, if she had more reach, the percentage increases. So basically, she positions for that specific shot, but she should be ready to sprint to her right side, 2 or 3 steps should give enough momentum to reach any uncovered areas. Thats the issue, she doesnt cover her weak side (the position where she has to be to prevent floaters) @3:35 same stuff, shot right after, the same. @4:16. You see the trend. But what worries me is the shot @4:22. She shouldnt be there, anyways, she already IS there. If she cant block a shot that has nothing to it, no speed, no accuracy, no need to jump, almost arms reach on the side that she is actually covering, man.I dont want to say to reconsider the position, but she really is in shape, it may actually be an option. She could improve wonders if she works in the positioning, i really could see some 20% increase in blocked shots with that change. But due to the exposure she has, she may actually think that is is very good and wont work in her positioning. Maybe somewhere else, but not the positioning. The guy doing goalkeeping is as atrocious as her, but he is not the focus of the video.
So as someone who doesn’t even play competitive football anymore and never seriously played goalkeeper I could still be a world class women’s keeper with my current skill set 😂
She is actually an excellent keeper, the shots that she couldnt save were mostly due to her short height which is not a quality that you would often see when it comes to mens professional football. over all i was not expecting her shot to be that good so to say that i am impressed is an understatement.

Having said that, as a keeper, if the player is not shooting from the center of the goal, either skewed to the right or left, you need to position accordingly. The best set up is to lean to the opposite side of the shot, the distance is proportional to the keepers reach. For instance. If the shot is coming from the right of the keeper, the keeper has to go left(Weak side, harder to reach on a backwards jump). That is because if you are not there to defend that slow angle shot that is dropping, ill be almost impossible to reach, as you will have to jump backwards. If the shooter aims for the open area (ill call that the strong side), all the momentum that you get with 2-3 steps will allow you to reach almost any part of that open area. If its fast and accurate, there is nothing you can do anyways. If its accurate, you will reach, if its fast but not accurate, it will either go out or ill be an easy shot at mid height, the keeper should be able to reach that with the momentum it built. If the shot comes from the opposite side, well the keeper has to go to the right, same reasons.
The shots from the middle are a coin flip.
Again, i dont know if she was in tryhard mode or not (probably not) but her reach and reflexes are subpar. But what it worries me is that she has the most atrocious positioning i have ever seen.
Shot @3:16 is the perfect and specific example of what i said (@3:42 is the same shot basically, just didnt go it, but so you get the point). That exact shot is the reason of the set up i just mentioned. Its almost impossible to reach from where she stands, Had she been where i said, she would have like 60-70% chance to block it, by positioning itself, if she had more reach, the percentage increases. So basically, she positions for that specific shot, but she should be ready to sprint to her right side, 2 or 3 steps should give enough momentum to reach any uncovered areas. Thats the issue, she doesnt cover her weak side (the position where she has to be to prevent floaters) @3:35 same stuff, shot right after, the same. @4:16. You see the trend.
But what worries me is the shot @4:22. She shouldnt be there, anyways, she already IS there. If she cant block a shot that has nothing to it, no speed, no accuracy, no need to jump, almost arms reach on the side that she is actually covering, man.I dont want to say to reconsider the position, but she really is in shape, it may actually be an option. She could improve wonders if she works in the positioning, i really could see some 20% increase in blocked shots with that change. But due to the exposure she has, she may actually think that is is very good and wont work in her positioning. Maybe somewhere else, but not the positioning.
The guy doing goalkeeping is as atrocious as her, but he is not the focus of the video.

She is actually an excellent keeper, the shots that she couldnt save were mostly due to her short height which is not a quality that you would often see when it comes to mens professional football.

Why is everyone holding her to the same standard as men? She's not a man. She's not as biologically strong or fast as a male athlete. To judge her based on how she compares to men is ridiculous. What you should be doing is judging her based on how she compares to other women. I will never understand why people shit on women's sport.
