I keep forgetting this is the guy who helped to write this song with Utada Hikaru. The best part is that even though there's no lyrics, they still live on and breathe within the notes themselves.

Melodies that transcend words
As far as I know the pianist makes the melody first and then the singer writes lyrics to it later. I have a friend in the music industry so I know how it works
I read the interview on your twitter.
"We'd started jamming a piece of music one day, and I started playing the main motif, it was the first ever time I'd played it and it kinda came out fully formed. You know, some of the latter parts of the song are quite intricate, especially in left hand on the piano. That all came out in one go too. It was very odd, it's never happened to me before. It's kind of surreal. I think we both knew it was something special. "
I knew it, this must be inspiration from high above. That's why it sounds so special. It's transcendent.
It truly is.

It broke me when I knew that Hikaru's mom commited suicide. The lyrics fits perfect with the pain she was facing at that moment

I loop it eternally on my phone to the point all people around me are used to this song. They love it and told me to play this louder for everyone in the room. Thank you Ben for creating this. Hopefully 4.44 also has your masterpiece in it
It’s been so many years, but this is still one of my favorite songs of all time… And I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. Whenever I play it for someone, it captures their attention like very few pieces do. There’s really something special about it. Thank you for this.

I'm just glad that Utada briefly came out of her hiatus if only to create this one song.
Really I can't imagine what it must have been like to write this song in such a straightforward manner. I always come back to it, it's really an amazing song.

This is one of those rare captivating songs where you hear the tune once, and it’s so very powerful that it will never, ever leave you. Perfectly sets the mood for how Shinji is feeling having lost Kaworu.
Thank you so much for this gift of music to the world, it's almost as if it's a blessing to the ears.
Even though the sublime and solemn tones focus on the beauty behind sadness, I being a fan of Utada Hikaru and subsequently Evangelion, I find this in line with the other tracks in the sense that they all including this one, energize me deeply on an emotional level everytime I listen to it.
I hope some day I could convey my heartfelt thanks to you and Utada Hikaru in person.

This is going to sound really pretentious,
but i really think the piano can portray exactly what a musician is feeling. it's like the instrument is resonating with the musicians soul.
and that's what i love about the piano you can feel the song in a sense.
