Everything you said is well said and thought out. The gaming community these days I feel like it ain't even run by legit gamers, just people who flood it with so much negativity it's annoying.
Also about The Last of Us Part II, couple years ago I didn't like the game, but I revisited again couple weeks ago and I ended up loving it. Can't speak for everyone but I think some people may need to give a game a second look to see if they still have the same opinions as they did.

Thanks for watching! I agree, although there are still good people in the gaming community, I think they get overshadowed sometimes by the people just looking to cause drama.
I’m glad you gave TLOU2 another chance. I think if the people who hated it on their first playthrough would revisit it, and maybe not focus so much on what happens to Joel, they may have a different appreciation for it.

Most of the criticism that I've heard is how the game starts by killing Joel with a golf club and then having the player play as Abby afterwards. I mean, that would make a few people mad.

I've noticed an increase of negativity in the gaming community as a whole. I understand that social media allows a user total freedom to say anything, although there are limits regarding to racist/homophobic comments and such. But the thing is that there is barely any tolerance when it comes to dicussing a topic, it doesn't get anywhere besides being a fight of who gets more likes or upvotes. Sadly this can be observed outside this virtual platform, some people get agressive when they don't like to hear a different opinion and therefore it escalates into violence. My advise is to enjoy games no matter what, in the end we are all strangers in this virtual world and there are lots of dummies that are just hating on everything.

It’s unreal to me how people are trying to say Aloy is “ugly” or “not feminine”. She’s very cute (also very young) and she’s pretty feminine, as well. They just don’t know what women look like without a filter or makeup. The games they praise for having beautiful women (i.e. Resident Evil remakes) have obvious makeup on the models’ faces. Something that bothers me with them being negative is that they act as if every game that isn't mainstream is basically trash. If you aren't playing NBA2K, Madden, WWE, Fall Guys, Batman, Spider-Man, Call of Duty, Mario, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Sonic, Pokemon, Zelda, Splatoon, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, GTA, Dead by Daylight, Resident Evil, Red Dead Redemption, and Fortnite like the rest of them then you're taste in games is horrible. I really don't understand Mario Kart fanboys beef with other kart racing games. Any time Nintendo posts a trailer to a new season of Disney Speedstorm, they're flooding the comment sections with nothing but hate. Smash Bros fans act toxic towards MultiVersus as well on Twitter/X. They really have a hard time understanding why someone would have a genuine interest in other kart racers or platform fighters. It's like damn do we all have to put a limit on how many games we're supposed to be interested in ? They act like a bunch of nerdy psychos. In their minds, you're only supposed to like games that are popular. Screw everything else. The only time I see gamers act positive towards a game is when it's a franchise that they like. Anything outside of that irks the hell out of them lol.

You like a popular game: hated

The online gaming community is comprised very heavily of individuals with levels of social personality disorder that range from problematic to outright dysfunctional, which is to say - a lot of people who can’t hold a job or otherwise function in society in a tangible sense, and the gaming community is their only social outlet.
In some cases it’s a positive outlet for people with social anxiety or depression or other disorders that make in-person socializing difficult (also physical disabilities).
But just as often, it’s an unfortunate playground for unchecked and unhealthy behaviors towards other gamers. I’ve observed all manner of personal squabbles, and some feuds that last years, involving people getting doxxed, outed on social media, fired from their jobs, etc.

The rise of social media also meant the rise of pointless screamers who want to put us down at their level.
Just enjoy for yourself without considering what other people think. There's ALWAYS a troll trying to make us believe that we're stupid for loving something. EVERY game gets zeros on metacritic from pointless trolls. TLoU : Part 2 is my favorite game ever for many reasons and I couldn't care less what whiners think. It really helps to learn about narcissism and understand that social media is flooded with narcissists. It clearly is a modern plague that lead to cancel culture and the polarisation in all discussions. How come that we are in the best era ever for gaming, yet whiners scream that all companies that produce them are in just for cash and AAA gaming has never been worse?! These whiners are in for attention, nothing else. Narcissists have never been worse simply because they now have the tools to put as many people down as they can because the floodgates are open for them. Even the mainstream media give them attention! It's just like being in high shcool. You WILL meet the worst people you don't want nothing to do with, because that's where they thrive. I'm 42 and explained to a 14 years old teen recently (who's been told by another adult that these were the best years of her life) and let her know that for the majority of us, high school was the worst time of our lives. Some teens are not just mean, they want us to feel miserable and they'll work on it to make sure it works! The internet is full of them! Bad use of social media is a modern threat. It's not about to change until this generation learns from their mistakes and educate the next generation how bad it was for them. For now, we're just in the snake pit and must learn not to jump in it head first. I just read an article on Gamespot about toxic gamers and the first comment I read was the very definition of it. I tried to laugh it off, checked how many comments this user had written over the years and found out it was just about 56 000 in 10 years. That's over 15 comments a day. We must learn to not give them our time and efforts. I miss magazines where the trolls were relegated to a few spaces in the "gamers' response" section. Now, they're all over the place. They're still a minority, but they occupy most of the online space. Last thing : you want to know how to have your house destroyed? Do an "open house"! Regardless of how well intentionned you are, every single open house I've ever heard of ended with theft and destruction. That's the internet today.

  • @William5000000
    @William5000000 2 года назад +19

This is the biggest problem I have with the gaming community. I feel like after 2005, the community slowly started becoming divided in terms of games they'd rather play. Some people even prefer to stick to old games in the third and fourth generation because they'd rather be complacent than try to be open to new things in the fifth and sixth generation. That's pretty sad, but it's also understandable. What's even more sad is how nearly half the gaming community reacted to the leaks of "The Last of Us Part II" before it even came out. And when more and more people started liking that game and voted for it to win the awards, and when it won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020 and people called it rigged, it convinced me that the gaming community had become unstable at that point. And now I look at the gaming community as a joke because of the hostility towards one another. It's to the point where I want nothing to do with the gaming community, unless they do these things, which should be mandatory: take a hard look at themselves in the mirror, be open to other people's perspectives, empathize with them, and respect each others' opinions.
However, in my honest opinion, the game that truly made the gaming industry unstable is "Cyberpunk 2077" with its broken launch, realistically on ALL platforms. That was a true wake-up call for everyone. And now gaming as a whole is unstable. But some modern gamers (particularly those from the seventh and eighth generation) still don't see that. And those people want more bigger games with better graphics to come out faster without crunch??? Maybe that's possible with Unreal Engine 5 on taking less time to make bigger games, but I feel like the work put into using that software will be less genuine. And I'm sorry, but I think that's going overboard.
Former Sony boss Shawn Layden said AAA game development cost is unsustainable and he'd personally welcome back games that are 12 to 15 hours long, and I agree with him. Games that are 12 to 15 hours long is my ideal length. 24 hours on average is officially my limit on the length of linear games, and "The Last of Us Part II" proved that for me. And let's not forget the length of "Resident Evil 6", as that game was almost as long as "The Last of Us Part II". I even questioned the length of "Gravity Rush 2", which unfortunately didn't sell well outside of Japan. I don't think I can handle another game that's 24 hours on average. I can handle "The Last of Us Part II", but sadly the length of that game completely killed my interest in 3D "Zelda" games, even the older ones.
Oh, and indie games aren't much better either, as they focus on nostalgia. And they're either too hard (kaizo style) or too easy (infinite lives) most of the time. Most of the Kickstarters on those games end up being a disappointment. Seriously, the only indie games that have caught my attention are "Horizon Chase Turbo", "Blade Strangers", "Sonic Mania Plus", "Bare Knuckle IV", and both "Ori" games (which apparently had development problems, mainly the working conditions). Pretty much everything else is just trying to be retro. That may be fine for people who want more of that, but they generally don't cut it for me.
As far as I'm concerned on "The Last of Us" series, "Part II" is the end of an era for me. I'm currently treating "The Last of Us" series like "The Godfather" film series (the 1974 film "The Godfather Part II" originally ended the film series) along with the "Metal Gear Solid" trilogy ("Metal Gear Solid 2" was supposed to chronologically end the series).
As far as I'm concerned on the "Uncharted" series, "Uncharted 4" (along with "The Lost Legacy") is the end of an era for me. I'm currently treating the "Uncharted" series like the classic "Tomb Raider" games from Core Design, especially since I haven't played a single "Tomb Raider" game after "The Last Revelation" (a true send-off for the original series, in my opinion).
I consider myself a true genuine gamer (from third generation up to eighth generation), who tries to look at all sides, and knows when things must come to an end. And the eighth (or possibly ninth) generation is where I'm winding down on gaming in general (mainly because of the toxicity that surrounded "The Last of Us Part II"). I've had a good run in gaming, but I think it's time for new gamers to step up.

I agree. And I think that stuff just adds to the toxicity in the community. It’s like if you don’t have the same opinions as someone else on a specific game “you are the problem.” Gaming is for everyone, and people can play and enjoy whatever they want.

Here's Onex7805's most sympathetic Reddit comment. This is why I hate Anti-SJW, Modern Gamer.
I feel the launch of this game finally exposed the "Trust 'honest' RUclipsrs over those 'professional' journalists!" myth. Up to very recently, the majority of those that had been criticizing CDPR's practices and studio problems were outlets and actual journalists while RUclipsrs were busy to downplay them to pander to the gaming community and fans were eating that up, making up some conspiracy theories about "BRAVE CDPR IS FIGHTING THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA", nonsense pushed by the anti-SJW crowd likes of Upper Echelon Gamers (Who now posted "I'm done defending Cyberpunk" lmao)
People like Angry Joe have been hyping the shit out of this game as if it is going to be the second coming of Christ without an ounce of skepticism, got invited to the CDPR headquarters, defended their deeds as if he is their PR guy, has been downplaying all the news regarding crunches and shit management by saying
"The employees take their jobs very seriously. It's very tough over there okay. It's not a walk in the park, but that's what comes with being a prestigious company. It's tough, but they're doing things right."
Any other company, he would be virtue signaling about how employees are abused as he did with Bioware and Naughty Dog because they made the games the community didn't like. When Cyberpunk got released, he had streams talking about "Come on guys, this is their first massive openworld game, they will fix the bugs" and made a news video on game controversies and tried his hardest to shift the blame from CDPR to Microsoft by claiming the Halo Infinite delay forced CDPR to release this game.
This is the same guy who fills his reviews with the 10 minutes skits of Angry Joe fighting the "corporate commander" strawman, branded himself as the "champion of consumers" spiel. This is the guy who posted an Angry Rant on The Last of Us Part II just based on the plot leaks of the game that wasn't out. (And a significant portion of the leaks turned out to be inaccurate) He only now published an Angry Rant on Cyberpunk almost a week later because everybody is now shitting on it and jumped in on the bandwagon since that is where his bread and butter are and his instincts to catch up with trends are better than the majority of reactionary gaming RUclipsrs. If there were no backlash, I can assure you he'll still be singing praises nonstop.
Skill Up published a review that praises how the city feels real and immersive. CohhCarnage was shitting all over Watch Dogs Legion about every tiny detail of the engine, and now with Cyberpunk, it's all about the story. YongYea finishes the game and reviews it before release, "The game has some bugs, but it is exactly what I wanted it to be" then it ends with praises, despite the game missing so many of its promised features Yong wanted.
With this said, a lot of these RUclipsrs are now lambasting the game, but again, it is because that is where their bread and butter are. Any gaming Youtubsr who gushed about the game prior to or right afterthe release then turned against it now is just a crowd follower who looks at subs like these and follows what they think the popular opinion is.
Outlets like IGN and Gamespot get shit all the time for being biased (for good reasons), but so many RUclipsrs that regurgitate what the community says to drum up controversy or hype get a free pass when they are not much different from phony sensationalist yellow journalists they claim to fight against. Contrary to the popular belief, professional media personalities don't get paid by clicks, while RUclipsrs do and have an actual incentive to follow the bias of their viewers. Their audience doesn't hold the influencers accountable for anything. They are basically just watching long advertisement videos with ads on top of them. The majority of these big-name RUclipsrs are grifters who built careers around telling their audience what they what to hear rather than what they need to hear, despite they have been marketing themselves as 'honest' and 'real'. Chris Davis pointed this out in his critique video, and I am so glad he did. Studios are not rewarded for investing in the product itself and only for the marketing and public relations.
It is frustrating how people complain that major review sites are way too biased and lack integrity but they always seem to ignore RUclipsrs who are even far worse. They still can't get their heads out of the naive impressions of old RUclips days when the gaming RUclipsrs were pure and innocent, which was a decade ago.
Imagine Cyberpunk 2077 was an EA, Bethesda, or Ubisoft product. If any other studio promised a world as deep as Red Dead Redemption 2, with better cops than GTA V, presented their game as if it is a life sim, if any other studio promoted a game as an RPG and ended up removing that description from their site? It will not be "Oh but it will get patched so still buy it" at the release. Angry Joe would be calling the game an Epic Fail and rallying his fans to demand a fix or refund, Skill Up would issue a PSA not to buy this game, and YongYea would be talking about disgusting business practices and false advertising while saying that despite the game being good in some areas that shouldn’t excuse all the ways they dropped the ball. But hey, it’s CDPR. They’re gamers just like us and wholesome Keanu 100. They had to keep the narrative that CDPR was supposed to be the end of year savior because gamers have this creepy parasocial relationship with them since The Witcher 2. These RUclipsrs had to feed into what their audience wants. People need their community consensus validated and if a major reviewer disagrees with their consensus suddenly they’re biased and don’t deserve the job they have.
The problem is these guys are literally influencers. Their followers are literally influenced by their opinions of the game and parroting whatever things they said, despite don't play the game first-hand and not considering they're using the best machines to run the game. Either, at best, they have invested so much and waited so much for the game so they subconsciously refuse to admit it, or at worst, they are leeches who are in it for the paycheck. They need to cater to the people (community) who make clicks.
My answer: Watch RUclips Gaming 'Journalism' Is SICK || EVEN STEPHENS, Why Gaming Culture is so Toxic, Videogame Discourse: More Broken Than Cyberpunk (The Jimquisition), I HATE r/gaming, REVIEW SCORES. It's good video.

And of course we got the git gud term that came from the dark souls community that I will always hate that term since that term is so rude and insulting towards a person.
That just wants to have fun playing a video game instead of trying to be a pro at a video game which I just hate when there will be those people from the dark souls community
That will use that term on to anything! which it gets annoying how they will treat anything like it's dark souls! and of course the gaming community now will have these people.
That will define the word gamer with real combining it together as real gamer which I know in fact there are people that will claim mobile gamers aren't real gamers which
I find it stupid since I'm like to those people, mobile gamers are gamers and anyone can be a gamer though since playing video games makes you a gamer though.
Which I remember how someone replies to me telling me how people will only think you're a gamer if you play games like cod or fortnite or halo which I think it is stupid
Which you shouldn't be a gamer for playing those only games! which this makes me think what happen to playing any video games and that will make you a gamer?
And I still see those mobile gamers as gamers which I never like mobile games myself though, from seeing how mobile games are nothing but pay to win games nowadays.

Then he randomly started checking me talking about don't mix me up with everyone else. I responded wtf are you talking about. Then he started playing the victim claiming I changed on him or some b.s. After I literally was just in game chat clowning around and laughing. After I told him I had nothing against him. I then explained the situation that was happening with his club. Not blaming him for anything. He then responded with such bs talking about see thats what I was talking about in the beginning as if I blamed him in the 1st place. He then said sorry maybe he was tripping. So I sent him✌😎 to show him he's good. This idiot proceeded to play the victim again. I just stopped responding after that. I feel like he was trolling. Let me know in the replies⬇

Sounds like a club you don't wanna be associated with anyway. Games are supposed to be fun and it sounds like they were making it more toxic than anything.

Thank you for the heads up! My sources for that section of the video were mainly Austins video and other videos about the situation, the Niche Gamer article was mostly used as a visual aid in the background, but I was not aware they were part of the issue so I appreciate you letting me know. True, but it wasn't THIS bad back in the 90s and early 2000s. Toxicity was only an occasional unfortunate circumstance back then where now it's commonplace. Maybe this is an extreme example, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a lobby in MWII where there isn't at least ONE person dropping the N-word over the mic.

EVERY new game that comes out that's an ORIGINAL idea is overwhelmed with negativity, it happened with The Grinder by High Voltage Software and now Darkborn. The same people wanna act dumb and wonder why they were cancelled. 🙄 But if you dare question how developers are only making remasters and reboots, or question the choices the devs are making. Your told "stop free-thinking!" Also all it took was for a boss to kill fan favorite characters in an anime spin-off to get people to play Cyberpunk.

Exactly what I mean when I say people can't even have a discussion with someone they disagree with. Both games are great, easily in my top 10 of all time, but since GOW won game of the year instead of red dead 2, a certain group of red dead fans resort to calling GOW trash rather than discussing why they like rdr more.

You should get on Henge of Denravi and play World vs World on GW2, you will see a lot of supposed "edge lords" who think the server is their personal property and will be toxic to people for simple callous. It's really bad to be honest. There are quite a few on the game that get their kicks on making the game miserable for others. It shows you exactly why they are constantly losing in the game. They spend more time running their mouths instead of playing the game. I was kicked from one guild for calling out that every tower around our garrison was being taken so the opposite team could put up trebuchet and attack garrison from all sides. The guild leader thinks that others have no freedom of speech and the server is his personal property. The other guild that kicked me, kicked me simply because I refuse to support illegal immigration. So, there's political issues there as well. I am swapping servers soon to a server that is winning on a consistent basis and is not near as toxic.

As a person that's been to gamefaqs, I've never really seen a right-wing gamer, aren't they mostly hunters and campers? Sorry if it's a stereotypical view, but I've been to gamefaqs politics and they shit on right wingers all the time. The gaming community is toxic to Asian men though, but even if you say it doesn't exist, there's no one fighting for them, which proves my point. I know we got no room for them. Cause at the end of the day you pick on a group where you receive the least resistance from others. No one's gonna get backlash for bagging on people with Downs for example. Saw that for the millionth time copy pasta on gamefaqs politics. It's like dude, okay you guys hate Asians, we get it lol. I mean gamers are suppose to be neutral, fight for basic civil rights for everyone, but they're not suppose to take one minority's side over another just cause me as a minority don't have as much swag or whatever.

Why does it matter? Games are for everyone and the more types of people that are represented in games, the more people can relate to them. It only has a positive effect on the game as a whole.
