    This review made me so happy :) It's straight forward talk about the things that work well (tuning and the sound for the price), and also about the issues that I can - as a potentional buyer - expect. This is a great time for IEMs indeed - and I l also love that there is no snobbism in this review because diminishing any cheap product is so easy to do.

    Nice to see the evolution of the Salnotes Zero. I agree about the tips, the original Zero is one of the most annoying IEMs I've used when it comes to the tips. They're wide, and push out of your ear, and if you insert them deeper, the silicone tip collapses on itself and breaks the seal. Even measuring on the metal coupler was a huge pain for me since it would push itself out within seconds. For my Zero I ended up using different tips. I am still excited to try the Zero 2 since my main complaint about the original Zero was the treble.

    If these fit anything like the original zeros then they will fit perfectly for me. I personally have small ear canals. The Zero REDs were too big for me and would constantly be on the verge of falling out since I couldn’t insert them deep enough. The BLON Jojo’s, which are tiny and designed to be inserted deeper in the ear just hit the wall of my small ear canal and partially block the sound.

    I had that issue with the original Zeros, but was never able to figure out what was going on exactly. In forums people would just say it's because they're bright IEMs, and it takes getting used to, but the insertion depth thing makes sense. I have a pair of KZs that people describe as painfully bright, but I don't get that same lower treble "piercing" sound as I do with Zeros.

  • @informedchoice2249
    @informedchoice2249 7 месяцев назад +5

    I've tried standard tips. I've tried Spinfits, and I've tried Comply's. None of them are entirely comfortable due I think to the nozzle length and it's contact with the canal entrance. What's the most comfortable tip according to all of you?

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who think the fit is the main problem, it sounded completely different once I use foam tips in my OG Salnote Zero, the bass actually better and treble is tolerable once the bass is more nounce. I think the shape also a problem because it wouldn't be a problem the IEM siting outside of my ears if weren't for the weird shape and makes it more rounder like normal IEMs shape.

      @Lishtenbird 8 месяцев назад

      I ended up getting TRN Clarion tips per a random recommendation in discussions of Zero, and am fairly content with the result. These tips have a convex-concave shape that let the IEMs seal better even if they aren't fully pushed in. Can't guarantee that this will work for everyone, and I'm not a fan of buying "accessories" for budget gear myself, but something like this might be an option.

    In the end, what kept me from using last season's 20-buck IEMs was lack of instrument separation, especially in the middle and higher frequencies. They all suffered from it, except maybe the Hola. The $35 bracket, things like the Moondrop LAN or the Kiwi Ears Cadenza, were already much better in that aspect.

    The Truthear Zero has a MASSIVE nozzle, the OG Salnotes Zero did not, can you confirm that the Zero 2 does not either? It looks like the same external dimensions with the same ear tips.
    I have no problems at all with fit on the OG zero, but had to get small spinfit tips to wear the truthear red and even then I was only comfortable for about an hour or so.
    Currently using Salnote Zero ear tips with the 7hz Sonus, because they are more comfortable than the stock and sound better than moondrop springtips.

      Got the Zero 2, I think it has a bit of extra energy at 4khz and around 12khz but it's not really a lot (like 1 or 2 db) and does not screw with tonality, also it has really nice bass to become what is in my opinion the best tuned IEM out of all the cheapie sub 30 dollar IEMs, the only thing up to 100 dollars I heard that has better tuning is the truthear zero red with the impedance adapter
      Would recommend easily, though it being a 20-25 dollar IEM means the eartips and cable are really meh, you need aftermarket tips/cables to get a really nice set or you could just go to the truthear zero red for 50 dollars and get a complete set with pretty nice eartips and cable

    The fit on IEMs can be an issue for some. For example, the original Salnotes Zero is one of the most easiest, basically wear and forget it IEM for me. And then there are IEMs that people are happy with, and they give me a problem when I wear them.

    I am the opposite, i prefer shallow nozzle iems - having both a long nozzle and rubber tip jammed in my ear canal causes way too much stress/strain and irritation and always causes it to pop out. So i use short nozzle iems with double flange tips that i make by myself by cutting short cheap triple flange tips. The iems sit on the outside of my ear canal and only the double flange enters my ear canal. Much more tolerable for my ear canals that twist decidedly upwars close to the entrance into the ear canals.

    I have similar issue with Truthear Hexa. I'm not sure it's fit related, but 2200-3800 are very boosted for me, even when comparing to something more forward in this region (Truthear Zero, for example).

      I filed the nozzle of my hexa down because my ear canals are quite small and it improved the sound so much for me. My truthear zeros had half of their nozzles filed off because they were gigantic. I think crin has massive earholes and doesn't realize it 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Keep in mind that the shape of the shell with its fairly significant corner may be painful to use over longer time (hours); it depends, some say it is the best fit ever, and others that it hurts. So if you're planning to get Zero blindly, just know that you _might_ need to return it for that reason.

    Interesting, personally I found that the presence area is way too recessed for my personal taste and feels way too safe. Maybe its just me but completely lacking in the sibilance area makes anything brass and woodwinds sound wrong. That being said because its so safe its easy to rec to people. Guess it really is different ears different sounds lol.

    Not having an anime-style character on the box being considered a plus (even if it's clearly not taken that serious) is wild, ngl. I thought everyone enjoyed them by now, just by the fact that it's a work of art on the box rather than just "Image of the product at good-looking angle". SO much more appealing to have something unique on the box to represent the IEMs, or a series of IEMs.
    I know it's absolutely no big deal. I'm just shocked that there are still people that actively want to avoid the 'audio waifu' trend, even if it is a bit silly.

      Why is there an anime character on the box when they could not have included it? And what is the reason they put an anime character on the box?

    • @Avruthlelbh
      @Avruthlelbh 8 месяцев назад +6

      @@gelgel4823 It's just a mascot design to represent an IEM or series. Similar to promotional photography with real people in it, it's supposed to convey the qualities of the product through a visual medium, as well as just be generally appealing to the eye in order to catch attention.
      It doesn't change the product inside or anything, but it's just a bit of art to appreciate, and it helps show that the company that made the IEMs care enough about it to want to put in the money/effort into developing a mascot for each set, rather than just having a company logo and calling it a day.

    01:12 - Frequency Response IS ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS I look for on the product specs (along with Driver size, Sensitivity etc etc), It's a SHAME it's NOT a STANDARD to put these kind of specs on the packaging for IEMs, On Ears, Over Ears etc... 😒

    I don't understand the frustration some people seem to feel about all these collabs. It's a good thing. If you share many of the tastes in sound as your favorite audio reviewer, why wouldn't you want something tuned by them?
    I am no audiophile, but the fact there are more options at every price range compared to 3 years ago and with decent sound quality is fantastic. If you are not familiar with a certain company or you are unsure about an iem's tuning then having a reviewer you know be a part of it is reassuring. That's why I bought a Blessing 2 Dusk which I use and is still my favorite to this day.
    Bottomline, if you don't like these collabs that okay, it's your opinion, but they are not for you. They benefit other people and allow for more access to better sound. Not all of us live in an area where we can test out iems or headphones.
    On a final note, in a video announcing the Zero 2 Crin did explain the tuning was targeting a more consumer-like (for-the-masses) customer as they are the ones most likely to buy budget iems.

    Sound quality-wise there is no reason for me to be using an IEM like this, except for one reason... I kill every earphone/IEM when I do cardio. I guess it's the sweat. I'm at the point where I need to go cheap and the $20-$25 options are pretty great now.

    Duude. A reviewer with the same problem as me? My issue with most of the iems today is shallow insert depth, falling out and so on. I have 'solved' the problem by using bullet shaped iems, etymotic, ling longs, final, quarks.

    I’m gonna throw my two cents in and say I think the new ZIIGAAT Nuo is probably a good contender around $25. I have a set and they’re pleasantly tuned and pretty good at the techs. No complaints on the fit either. I’ve got smaller ears, and a pretty small concha (but medium size canal), so fit can be a problem with some larger chassis or strangely shaped IEMs. I put the Nuo in and forget it.
