Fellow Troopy owner here. Back in the day we had a 1984 Troopy and it took our 4 kids all over the country. It was our family vehicle my wife used for school dropoff etc, so she became known as the lady with the Troopy.
A few Landcruisers later, in 2019, the urge became too great and I traded a perfect 200series in on a brand new GXL Troopy. Haven't looked back. The grandchildren absolutely love it - crawling up into the back, sitting high, working the sliding windows and its very comfortable for them back there. We also tow - both a TrackTrailer Tvan on more remote trips and a 2.5T single axle offroad caravan on other trips. The 200series was a more powerful, and more stable tow vehicle, but the Troopy does it fine but like you, we don't enjoy the crosswinds.
I love changing my setup every couple of years because I can. So its changed from being a pure expedition setup to being a towing setup.
I try for a lightweight build to keep it capable. So no roof rack, standard tall skinny tyres, storage system is 9mm marine ply and no unnecessary barwork. So its around its 3300kg GVM when loaded on a trip (just 2 adults, no kids).
Amazing vehicle and little wonder you go on a waiting list for a year to get a new one.

Mate that’s some cool history! You can see why so many people who get rid of a troopy end up wanting another down the track. I’m definitely itching to do a near rear fitout, hopefully it happens in the future!
Mate thanks so much for watching the video and taking the time to leave such a great comment, it’s massively appreciated

Love the troopys, I didn’t realise you could have them as a family car until I started watching your vids. I’d get one in a heartbeat if they could tow a bigger van.

@@craigpatten8349 mate thanks so much for watching! Really appreciate it. I don’t think a lot of people realise you can run them as a family car.
You must have a pretty big van? I’d say if we upgrade vans in the future it won’t be alot heavier so shouldn’t be an issue for us

@ our van is 3044 tare but has a DO45 so a troopy could tow it but not with the water tanks full

@RoamingCoastlines watched now. Excellent run down of your Troopie. We were 4WD driving people way back in the mid 70s in our Series 3 Landrover and a camper trailer, plus 3 kids. We are now 80 and 78 with a 19'6" Jayco Starcraft caravan and an Isuzu MUX. Graduated from our Jayco Freedom poptop.
Keep up the good work and safe travelling with your lovely children. Thanks and sorry for the long comment.

@ such a cool setup that you had. I bet you guys would have seen some amazing locations and wouldn’t have had the crowds that are out there these days. So good to see that you are still getting out there enjoying it today 😊

The v8 cruiser is the bomb and people who say the 2.8 is better are delusional and will never no how good the v8 is cause they will never get to own one
