In the video you mention not knowing the difference between Opacity and Flow! If you put Flow to 20% and keep your pen on the same spot eventually it will build up to 100% coverage on that spot over time, however, if you put Opacity to 20% and keep your pen held down it will never go above 20% - as long as you don't lift and re-place your pen to the tablet (or click) you can go over and over the same area and still only have 20% transparency! :) Just a bit of trivia/info ^^
@@asadsaifi9499 it's terminology that is used across a lot of art software. I came here to learn just as I'm sure you did ^^ just sharing the general art knowledge I had!
I like this channel quite a lot. The special thing about it is that having two experts in an industrial realm with constant interaction. One complements the others... always having a backup after an explanation.
That's also very rare, that two people commentating on a subject complement each other instead of a constant struggle. I don't feel mentally taxed after watching their videos. Thanks guys.
Seriously, I'd buy it too! If it had a discretely-sized (not huge) "Flipped Normals" text on one line and "Exactly" on the next. Up over the heart area on a classic black t-shirt (size medium, pls)
I swear these guys who produce content for free are more informing and educational than my fucking college that get paid to teach us elements of the games industry. thank you guys for the effort you put into these videos
Guys, you are fantastic tutors! I love especially how you are doing it together. Mostly it is just one tutor in all other tutorials in the internet, and some of the points might be missed, skipped or simply forgotten and here we can see the power of the 2nd tutor! Also, it makes me feel like a real dialogue! You are my favorite CG tutors :D
I mean, by that logic you might as well have 36 tutors since no person or tutorial is ever going to teach every single thing about something. I was honestly very distracted by the constant back and forth between voices and their reacting to each other’s jokes and gave up on the video, but maybe it’s a matter of personal taste since the dialogue nature of it was a plus for you.
I think these guys have some of the best tutes on the web (yeah exactly), but his obsession with that phrase is like Chinese water torture. The only way to get through it is to try to anticipate his next "yeah exactly". A tad fun. Nevertheless, I watched this to learn, and learn I did. Too bad they don't answer follow-up questions.
You guys are awesome. From not knowing a single thing to a full understanding of basics. Also i like the idea of duo casting, you never miss a thing in a tutorial if someone is there to back you up
Your channel helped me a lot. Your videos are full of information. There is a lot of stuff in every single minute. I've viewed most of your videos. Thanks.
Im glad I watched this all the way through... I have been using painter for a year and I didnt know some of the stuff presented in this video. this is truly powerful
Absolutely great tutorial for beginners. Thanks for making this. It's great for people with 2D (e.g. Photoshop) or 3D (e.g. Unreal Engine, Daz, Maya) experience. The pacing is steady. The viewer doesn't get overwhelmed. Awesome stuff, and thanks again.
I have just started learning substance painter and seing a tutorial from you guys just made my day. Thank you for making it. Definetly gonna check out the other ones too.
Substance is one of the few very trick pieces of software I was able to get in on on the ground floor. Starting my 3D journey as a texture artist many moons ago, moving from traditional painters and suddenly seeing Substance at a trade show, I was utterly floored. I remember having so much fun on the demo with the particle generator that they had to kick me off. It's been interesting watching it grow and explode, becoming industry-leading. While I'm sure the dev's loved getting gobbled up by Adobe, I hate renting software and never upgraded my original perpetual license, though I'd really like to see all the new features for myself one of these days.
I used to be the same way about modeling. If people didn’t model the thing from scratch then they aren’t real modelers. But over time I realized it’s better to work smarter than harder. If you want to download a base mesh rather than make one then go for it. As long as the end product is quality and you aren’t just blatantly stealing, I don’t see a problem. It doesn’t matter how you got the end product, it just matters how good it is.
best 3d yt channel i found... i feel so lucky.... learned painter md8 and got some really good zbrush tips.. currently working on anatomy. thank you guys really fucking awesome channel
Moving from 3DCoat to Substance, and as usual when switching programs the hardest part is finding where all the tools are.. this was definitely helpful! Been watching you guys for long time tho, so I wasn't expecting otherwise))
Just a side note in Game engines perspective: Texel calculation much more complex than vertex calculation. - Best performance if an actor/prefab/mesh use only one shader. Because if we use more shader per model that mean the GPU draw call (texel calculation) significant increases. If you don't care any effective optimization than just use brute and fast asset creation.
I have been using Substance Painter for quite sometime at work but I am glad I saw this video and still learned new tips. Thanks guys. Recently discovered your channel and just loving learning everyday ! And yes it will be great to have a video on Generators
Loved this one. I Literally took notes of all the things you explained here and it was so brief and simple to understand. Great job guys! Request: Any tutorials for Substance Designer??
Can you please do a tutorial on how to bake clean maps from the high poly because basically the quality of the bake is what determines how good your textures will be?
Finally, found the simple and good way of basic explanation of SP. Thanks FlippedNormals team :) Hope to visit more to your channel to find other great staff that i will look for in the future.
For those who do not like the monthly subscription idea this is available on Steam at a once off low price! (Substance Painter or Substance Designer standalone packages).
Many thanks guys! Good video to start getting into Painter :) It´s crazy how I found this to be almost like a fun mix of Photoshop and Keyshot! Impressive tool, loved the generators.
I was one of those people who used to drag materials and call it a day but after seeing your video about masking I've been taking more time in texturing. I'm really looking forward to the generators video as it seems the possibilities of it are endless and would love to learn more about it
ye there's a rage quit button :'D this should be standard for all games in-game muahaha... nice intro!! liked this one much better as starting point than the one in substance academy! This is more hands on from the start instead of explaining settings etc without having a result to see in action. Now I think I know what went wrong in my first steps :)
It's nice to have 2 different voices, sounds more like a conversation than a tutorial :)
Exactly.
But for real, I find it's easier to keep my attention when there's more than one voice talking
Couldn't agree more
Also 2 heads better than 1 :)
It adds an extra voice dimension. ✌

So basically flow is a build up setting? Thank you for the info!

any flippednormals video is not just a self help video,it is an experience
Can we get some flipped normals merch that says "yeah, exactly"?
I'd buy it
Seriously, I'd buy it too! If it had a discretely-sized (not huge) "Flipped Normals" text on one line and "Exactly" on the next. Up over the heart area on a classic black t-shirt (size medium, pls)
Only if the outside of the shirt is pitch black and the inside of it has the color and design
Haha same. 100% would buy. At some point that one person in public is gonna understand the t shirt. Boom, friends for life 😄
Same, I'd pay for some merch with that phrase
