  • Get ready to embark on a sonic journey with legendary guitarist and composer Scott Henderson as he prepares to release his highly anticipated album, "Karnevel!", on February 2, 2024. Following the triumph of his previous album, "People Mover," which clinched the title of the best fusion album of 2019 by Jazz Times Magazine, Scott is back with a musical revelation that promises to captivate and innovate.
    "Karnevel!" is a testament to the guitarist's exceptional ability to seamlessly blend elements of jazz, rock, funk, and blues in an authentic and musical way. With a diverse set of beautiful compositions, the album reflects Scott's 35-year journey as a bandleader, showcasing an artist whose playing and composing continue to evolve and reach new heights.
    Recorded live in the studio with the same stellar lineup from "People Mover" - Romain Labaye on bass and Archibald Ligonnière on drums - "Karnevel!" captures the raw energy of a live session. Scott's dedication to sonic exploration is evident as he spent considerable time layering additional guitar tracks, introducing sounds that push the boundaries of his own musical palette.
    Born in 1954, Scott Henderson emerged in the 1980s with the legendary band Tribal Tech, solidifying his position as one of the top guitar players and composers in jazz fusion. Having toured and recorded with iconic figures such as Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul of Weather Report, and Jean-Luc Ponty, Scott's musical legacy spans over 70 countries and includes a catalog of more than 20 albums.
    Winner of numerous Best Guitarist awards and a fixture on the covers of international guitar magazines, Scott Henderson remains an influential force in the world of music. Check out this exclusive video interview conducted by Sonic Perspectives collaborator Rodrigo Altaf, as we delve into the inspiration behind "Karnevel!" and explore the mind of a true musical pioneer, including his unexpected love for metal.

    I've met Scott twice and even was able to buy him a drink and sit at the bar in Energy Park St Paul with him and talk guitar and recording and life :) between sets, he's absolutely one superb human being. I will NEVER forget his AMAZING outdoor performance at Galtier Plaza (Mears?) Park, excellent leads bouncing off of the buildings of inner St. Paul in an "out of this world" natural reverb. It was mystical! Its awesome that he's sharing respect for Ted Greene. God bless Scott Henderson!

    I first saw Scott in JJ Reindhearts music store in Toledo, Later I was introduced to him by Jeff Williams, he borrowed Jeff's Boogie amp and we went to see him, and pick it up. I watched several nights at the Zodiac Lounge. Voyage was a great band for that time....Rick Powell, Scott, Brad Teague, and Dick Ruse.....George the light guy was a friend of mine also.Scott, you were the only person I ever met who went barefoot in the snow!! At the age of 20, I had the distinct honor to study under Gary Willis and Scott Henderson when I attended B.I.T at M.I. We also got to see live performances of Tribal Tech. My roommate and G.I.T student friend and myself also got cassette copies of a live performance that was recorded from the board. 1986 -87 was by far one of the highlight years of my young life.

      I was @ B.I.T. from '88-'89. I was a big fan of TT's "Spears" & "Dr. Hee" before I attended. But, TT played on a Wednesday during orientation week & were mind blowing.
      I use to go to Willis' & Henderson's open counciling all the days they were in.
      They did a U.S. tour in the early '90s & came to my hometown outside of Washington, DC twice at The Bayou & Blues Alley with Covington & Kinsey & the audience were blown away.
      Sucks the majority of Scott's gigs are overseas now.

      Brother, it sounds as though we both got to study from and witness the most incredible and prolific jazz fusion artists in our lifetime ! In the early '90s, my funk metal hip hop group, Birdman of Alcatraz from Indianapolis, got to see Tribal Tech In Chicago before one of our gigs a few blocks away, as well as my privilege of visiting with and bothering Gary and Scott during their dinner before watching and sharing with my bandmates TT's transcendent and soul transforming performance,, as they both thankfully and graciously recalled me and my former Puerto Rican roommate as prior students several years prior, from M.I. who near religiously studied under their profound tutelage. This was by far the most inspiring experience before I performed at any gig during my lifetime ! Gary Willis and Scott Henderson two of the Gary Willis and Scott Henderson, two of the most influential composers and live performers as well as personal instructors In my lifetime !

Will go on record as saying no matter what kind of standards there may be l firmly rate Scott as "A Modern Virtuoso " hands down . Because of what he has accomplished over the years . The amazing unique techniques , style , sounds , personality & soulful spiritualism he has brought to The Electric ⚡ Guitar. 🎸💡 l saw Scott with Tribal Tech early 90s in Cleveland, Ohio & WOW ... AMAZING !! Him & the whole Band . & so nice talking with him . I Must say it was ❤ Life Changing to me as a learning guitarist & spiritually enlightening too !!! And has helped my playing so much . Just so unfortunate that can't see Scott perform now anymore because he performs in other countries & not here in San Rafael , California . I so wish America was more accommodating to this Guitar Legend !! Only the best wishes to you Scott & * Thanks *🎸👍

    I saw Scott during that same Jean-Luc Ponty tour. I was blown away and had just been playing guitar for a few years, and so during the break when I got autographs from everybody in the band including Jean-Luc Ponty, I told Scott I loved his playing and asked who his influences were. Instead of giving a polite answer, he adopted this snarky tone and with a sneer said in a dopey voice, “uuuuh, Eddie Van Halen”, turned to the guy next to him and smirked. Real great way to treat someone who just told you they thought you played great, jerk. Anyway, I just said nothing and walked away, disgusted at this trite and childish display.

    • @scott686
      @scott686 4 месяца назад +1

      Hi Mark, I have to tell you that it's literally impossible for me to treat a fan the way you accused me of treating you. It's just not in my nature to be rude to people in that way. I might have been teasing you and assuming you'd get the joke, which I can clearly see you didn't, but I would never smirk or roll my eyes or do anything rude - that's NOT who I am, and it never has been. I'm sorry you took my comment the wrong way, and I apologize for not making it more clear to you that I was just kidding around, which I do a lot. All the best, Scott

      @@scott686 Well, my date was with me when we got your autograph and she definitely had the same impression. And to me it was a sincere question and didn’t really merit a joke, it did merit a serious answer. Which OK, if you would’ve followed up with “Nah man, just kidding, I listened to John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell, etc., people like that…”, it would have done the trick. To me it felt like I was being mocked, and I certainly wouldn’t have posed the question if I had any idea who you had been listening to: I was just getting exposed to jazz fusion and the higher level of musicianship therein, and I was genuinely interested in your influences. Anyway, I found lots of great players to listen to on my own.
      But moving on, fine, thanks for the apology, all is forgiven on this end and you guys did put on one mother of a show that night, blew me away, great performance, so thanks for that as well.

    • @scott686
      @scott686 4 месяца назад +1

      Understood Mark, and again I'm sorry my remark was taken in the wrong way. I get questions sometimes which I think are goofs, like "what kind of strings do you use?", and people expect a goofy reply. If I had taken your question seriously I would've said Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck, and jazz guitarists like Wes, etc. The main point I'm making is that rudeness is not one of my character traits - especially to people who support me. I'm far from perfect, but my goal in life is to be a nice person more than it is to be a good musician. I'm also seriously into comedy and I'm sure I was just trying to be funny, but failed. Thanks for your reply and for accepting my apology.
