- Widely regarded as one of the greatest Jazz Fusion innovators, Scott Henderson is a virtuoso guitarist known by his solo work, from the Scott Henderson Trio (HBC Trio), and as member of Tribal Tech, Chick Corea's Elektric Band, Vital Tech Tones and various others. He has taught at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), now known as the Musicians Institute (MI) since 1984 and has been featured as the No.1 guitarist by several magazines such as Guitar World, Guitar Player, Jazz Times, etc. Nowadays, Scott Henderson can be easily recognized by his unique style, as he's one of the few that manages to play seamlessy between Blues, Rock, Jazz and "outside".

I never heard anyone play with ten times the chops of Scott , I like his Honesty about Modern Music and production. he should check out Mateo Mancuso and Tim Henson new guys that are interesting and theres some others but I also find it hard to find good music coming out today .plenty of good technically good players but thats technique not music. I"m looking forward to see Scott live it's been forever ! come to Florida !I used to live in NY so it was a little easier. Love Andy Timmons Kiko Loureiro is a Brazilian that got himself some recognition he's more then just Metal
Hey bud! Thank you for the observation. I thought of citing Tim Henson, but because his critique towards modern music was pointing out how it lacks dynamics and melodies, I'd imagine it wouldn't be in his wheelhouse. Regarding Matteo, I totally forgot to cite that name (which is funny because I did an interview with him not long ago). Andy and Kiko are both amazing, great references of mine. If you wanna check out, I've also had the pleasure of interviewing Andy in this channel.
Five years committed to studying and playing jazz is not a long time even if that’s all you did in that five years. To get to a deep meaningful place playing jazz takes a lot longer than that.

Yup! He's from my city here in Brazil and we can definitely see he got much from his partnerships with Rosenwinkel.
Again, you don’t have to be a fossil and be a jazz musician. In fact, the best jazz musicians don’t sound or think like fossils; Kurt Rosenwinkel, Tom Guarna etc etc sound like real jazz musicians AND sound completely modern who clearly have drawn from many different musics outside of jazz. It’s not one or the other necessarily. You can be a jazz musician but still have many layers of influence, jazz and non-jazz influences.

@@Vilelavolume11 Well not necessarily "fusion" music as a style or genre, but music that is not afraid to amalgamate any and all of the influences that impacted the musicians who create their own music and records.. This is very often how great music is created. Actually, a lot of "fusion" music isn't very good because it lacks, or isn't informed enough, by jazz harmony, phrasing, and swing. A lot of so-called fusion doesn't hold up over time because of the lack of these and other elements such as classical harmony informing the compositions etc.
Why would you mention any SPECIFIC band by name and say you think they suck even if you really don’t like them? You weren’t asked specifically about that band. I am not a U2 fan either but why single them or ANY band to make your point in this context on a podcast?..
Bro, not gonna lie, I wish people were more open and others comprehensive about what they like and don't like. It's his opinion. I'm personally ok with it.
@@Vilelavolume11 It's not really a matter of his opinion or not. I said in my comment that I don't like U2 either but, a guy of Henderson's stature should be more measured in his comments, period! He's always mouthed off in this way and it definitely is not a good look to younger musicians who might be fans of his playing. To put it another way, there's a way to express strong criticism without coming off like a dick. I guess what I'm saying is that when you're a known musician you have to be more aware of the situation/context and know when to criticize and when not to, and HOW to express criticism without it sounding like you're just an asshole. Again, you didn't ask him specifically about U2, he just used them BY NAME as his example. Whether we all love or hate U2 is beside the point. Allan Holdsworth and Kurt Rosenwinkel NEVER mouthed off like this guy does in public or on social media in this way. Btw bro, I really think you are a great interviewer and you seem like a really nice guy.
