Love it !!! Perfect Powerplant for the Hudson. One of my old mentors when I was much younger, may he RIP, used to street race Hudsons in the 50's and 60's. He put Cad engines in them He ran 472's Then the EPA did what they did, so the 500 in it's OEM form was not all that. But now you take a 500 and put a set of 472 heads on it with some porting work, building his own headers since you could not buy Cad headers, and took his cams to Ed Iskendarian to special grind his cams for him. He Rocked the Hudsons with Turbo 400's and the Cad powerplants and called them Cadson. So there you go. My great buddy will be looking down on you guys running this Cadson saying, he did it first, and he did. So Cali street racer wayy back in the day.

Back in the late 80s I had a roommate with a red 1976 Eldorado convertible with a white top with a 500 motor in it. It was an amazing automobile. The peak of luxury land yacht. Weighed every bit of 5000 pounds. Was not fast off the line but had no problem cruising down the freeway at 80 all day long. Drank gas like you can’t believe.
I’d love to have it now.

Just one more comment, It appeaqrs to me Courtney Hines is to Cadillax as what Joe Mondello was to Oldsmobile. Joe passed in 2011. Bernardo Mondello took over and Mondello's is still rockin' today, so let's home Courtney's Cad technology keeps on Rockin' too. I'd sure like to have had a few hours of conversation with both those gentlemen. May they both RIP. Can't wait to see this Tribute Courtney Cadson come to life FNA !!! I know you' guys will do him right. I'll be watching,.

Yep, Cad 472, 500 and Olds 455's and even Olds 425's make great boat low rpm torque monsters. 455's also ended in 1976. They have to make all the power and torque at low rpm cuz the rotating assemblies are so heavy. This is why you have to lighten the crank throws, girdle the mains and all that kind of stuff. Anyone can build a Chevy or Rod Engine, but not everyone can build a Cad or Olds engine and have it stay together. My mentor buddy also had a 59 Ford everyday driver with a Cad 500 with 472 heads, Cad power seat, Cad telescopic streering column, etc etc, Called that one the Fordillac, but it sill didn't beat his Cadsons.

I have built several 472/500 Cad cid back in the late 80’s and early 90’s as tow truck engines because of the big torque these engines can make at low RPM’s. Additionally I built a 500 for the custom dually that I built using a 1 ton crew cab frame that I shortened to use a 6-foot bed and chassis, a 5 speed transmission from a later model truck, an rear axle and springs out a cab and chassis which allowed me style side short-bed box that I tubbed. Additionally I installed a sleeper to hide the 150 gallon fuel tank to go along with the twin 50 gallon saddle tanks which gave me a range of about 2000 miles if I topped up all three tanks before a trip. The truck got 8 miles a gallon towing a 42 foot enclosed gooseneck race car trailer. I drove that truck for over 400,000 miles and would go through the engine every 100 to 150 thousand miles. The only reason I got rid of the truck was because I had stopped drag racing and no longer needed the truck and trailer which in all honesty was in need of some body work, a paint job, as well as the tires, and general overhaul.
