I agree two upgrades to the product would have been an HDMI and Sub out. Funny enough, the SMSL RAW-HA1 has those, an Infineon amp chip, the CS43131 dac, and the USB has the XMOS chip for re-clocking the Wiim Ultra. No fancy VU meters, but has a decent headphone amp (1.3W) at the exact same price (currently $212, MSRP $249) it is an excellent alternative. Go FunFi!

The aux out is a sub out, so that's good. Now I wonder if it has a selectable crossover frequency or if it's just a full range output. Going to assume it's just full range, but that's potentially ok - you just can't cut the bass out of your satellites. But since the aux seems to follow the main volume according to the documentation it will also volume control a sub, and you have to use the sub's crossover.
I’ve been been nurtured, bought up with high bias class A-B amplification. It’s what I know and love. It’s what I’ve invested thousands in. A couple of years ago, my girlfriend and I, gave up our separate homes and moved into a new home, together. For a while, whilst we settled in, much of my stuff, including my hi-fi, went into storage. As a temporary measure, I purchased an ‘all in 1’ hi-fi system for around €600. It included class D amplification and an ES1938 DAC chip. It was shockingly good, for the price. A few months later, when I’d got my hi-fi out of storage and set it up, that class D unit became surplus to requirement. Despite it being in imaculate condition, perfect working order and under guarantee, we could not sell it, or give it away. Nobody wanted it. It had no second hand or resale value! I think that’s the potential issue with the current trend toward inexpensive hi-fi. It doesn’t hold the value of its class A-B siblings. Is almost treated as ‘throw away’.
I've had no problems selling either surplus SMSL, Topping or other small stuff yet. Not at all. Traditional hifi equipment on the other hand have become more and more difficult, nobody seems to want it due to size.
I have ayima a09 and it's pretty awesome. I randomly clicked this video and had to doublecheck that the brand you were talking about is the same as my cheap amp from china
I like the loop earplugs but don’t notice much difference between the low/mid options. And I’m not sure they really help reduce ambient noise so you can hear your tablemates at a restaurant. But they’re good and don’t look as obvious as AirPods.
I Have had a Fosi Audio V3 for awhile now and recently got an Ayima AO7 for the garage. I was surprised how much more I enjoyed the sound out of the Ayima than the V3. I'd be willing to bet this is a great little amp, I just wish it had HDMI input.
The trigger input on/off almost certainly doesn’t put the external SMPS into idle/standby, so I’m not sure what purpose that serves… unless it’s a trigger-out rather than a trigger-in.
All nice and well, but one thing forgotten with all these little devices is it is creating an external wire mess with all the adapters etc. I have iFi, Bellari, ParksAudio etc. All fine in what that gear is doing but step by step I try to use these less because of the wire mess all together.
Other than the cool looking interface, remind me what the benefits of this amp are? I mean compared with the other 10,000 similar ones which are actually about 100 bucks cheaper?
My friend keeps blowing the fuse on his old maggies. He says because the amp has too much power. You can hear the distortion when he cranks it. I told him that the fuse was blowing because of clipping. He doesn't believe me and boy does the Aiyima get hot.
Thank you for the introduction of A80. Do you think that A80 is more valuable than AIYIMA D03? I'm seriously considering buy A80. (I have D03 and had used it for 2 years.)

Looks ideal for a desktop near-field experience. Would work well with budget Elacs or Sonys and my new M4 Mac Mini as the input source. I'm thinkin'.........
With USB-C chargers prices going down I wish these used this for a power input vs barrel connectors power supplies. Companies should seriously consider this as an option to power devices in general (not just phones, tablets, laptops, all-in-ones... but amps would be nice).
I screwed up my ear drums. Got new gear…Leaning over to plug it in…ear next to speaker…didn’t check the on/off or volume…well, plugged it in and immediately knew my ear drums were toast. All of these manufacturers represent their aux-output as a sub output and really that's fine -- as long as your sub has a low-pass filter, which not all of them do.
Reading on the Amazon site it says you can swap op amps. Also the output on the back could be used as a subwoofer output as it is volume controlled, just saying. Do you think this sounds as good as an A07, as I use one to play on my Klipshorns and it sound wonderful, just ordered some Sparkos for it.
What do you think about the Wiim Ultra and one of these? Just bought the Wiim Ultra and I am about to sell off my AV-receivers. =) Update. You just answered my question last in your video. Thanks. =)
Correct. But it's just generic 3.5mm TRS stereo auxilary output, full range, no cut-off. If a subwoofer is connected it's that subwoofer's job to generate that mono mix required from stereo signal and to cut-off at frequency of choice. Makes sense with tiny bass shy bookshelf speakers only. Subwoofer with remote control required to match volume manually.

The location was naturally designed in a perfect natural amphitheater to carry sound aided by the perfect breeze off the water naturally amplifying. Cool experience so hope to go there someday. So I totally believe under ideal conditions.
TRS - Tip Ring Sleeve. It means there are three electrical contacts in the described locations. Technically I think you were describing 1/4" (6.4mm) TRS as a typical 1/8" (3.5mm) or "mini-TRS" is also TRS. I've seen the ones that include a microphone, with four contacts, described as TRRS but I do not know if that is official.
But it's not safe to assume that the TRS is actually Hot, Cold and Ground as a proper balanced signal would need. A lot can go wrong depending on how the handle the input inside...
9:13 "it doesnt have a subwoofer output". the amazon site you linked states that the aux output is for active subwoofers. What's teh correct ansower now? Does it have a sub out or not.
Yes, you can definitely connect an active subwoofer to the Aux output from this thing. Just need to adjust the LPF on your SW as this Aiyima will throw full range.
@@pickyaudiophile
Wrong! I’ve seen this on other reviewers channel and the auxiliary is controlled by the volume.. it was demonstrated as well, so it wasn’t just an opinion..
Pop a 7-12 band EQ, tape-loop, and BBE circuitry inside it, and I'll buy 3 of them! :)
I have an Aiyima A01 pro and it has an aux out and I use this output with my sub. I'm pretty sure it's the same scenario here.
Came here to say this. Aiyima points out the same thing on their website if you want to add a subwoofer.
This A80 looks great!
I'm currently rocking an Aiyima T9 right now. it's also pretty darn good
but I really desire a headphone out.
Been looking at the SMSL options. The (older) AO300 was tempting.
SMSL just released the RAW HA-1 which i'm SUPER tempted by.

I have the pair(of loops) for my misophonia, severly affected by smacking, crunching, crinkling, etc. They are awesome for dinner in loud restaurants too, you can hear people talking perfectly but keeps out all the clinging and clanging in background
Great review and a cool product to have. Thanks for your time and efforts to create and share this content with us all. A good sponsor too.
I disagree (good review), the only assessment was "it sounds good". No comment about how powerful (watts/current) etc.
I ordered one yesterday. Today they are sold out, so I guess the title holds up 🙂 I´m excited to hear what it can do with my B&W DM683 S1 speakers. They are quite powerhungry.
Very cool all in one unit! Thanks for the review, I ordered one through your link to go with my pair of a07's. The only downside about the deal is the 1 to 2 month shipping window. 🤔
Oy. Fosi did this with the ZA3. It was worth the wait, IMO, but that’s pretty annoying.
I don’t need this, but I want it anyway!
this is exactly what i was looking for, don't know how i didn't notice it on black friday.
@@Cr3ePiO beacuse it is relised on 2 december
It has been in my shopping cart, waiting for you to. make a video! Thanks Randy.
Go FunFi!
=D
I wish it was the same size as the RAW-HA1 and with RCA preouts .
I just ordered a SMSL RAW-HA1.
@@johnfox2051 Good choice Man. Tell us when you get it !
Wish I knew about this before I just bought the Sony Str-dh590 I needed optical and hdmi arc for my LG tv and Roku remote to work as one with the amp volume. Also an amp that had a sub out, for a sub later down the road
Love your Christmas tree Randy. The video is good too.
Looking at some pics of the board... the op-amps are plug-ins. So depending on space I think you could definitely stuff something alternative in there.
Thanks again and regards.
It comes with the 48v power supply! That's like 60 bones alone. If I buy it I will use the affiliate link below. Good find, this one is sweet.
However GAN FET equipped power adapter not confirmed AFAIK
@@pickyaudiophile I don't know what those acronyms mean,🤔🤔 but it sounds like you're trying to say that the power adapter it comes with isn't very good? As far as you know.
@@enlightenCA Aiyima just doesn't say it's the more expensive GAN power supply included in contents of delivery. Generic costs $36, GAN FET version 80$ when sold separately. Don't know where he got that from it would come with GAN FET adapter.
Currently not available at AMZ. Just three days ago?
I have ayima a09 and it's pretty awesome. I randomly clicked this video and had to doublecheck that the brand you were talking about is the same as my cheap amp from china
Only been subbed a week and this channel feels like home. Looking forward to years of content, gods willing.
Thanks!
I like the loop earplugs but don’t notice much difference between the low/mid options. And I’m not sure they really help reduce ambient noise so you can hear your tablemates at a restaurant. But they’re good and don’t look as obvious as AirPods.
Hi Randy , another great video as already mentioned the aux o/p found be used for sub out . Love the vu meters too regards mark
Seems like a great product! It was so popular that they had to stop selling them 😂 hopefully they come back at some point
I Have had a Fosi Audio V3 for awhile now and recently got an Ayima AO7 for the garage. I was surprised how much more I enjoyed the sound out of the Ayima than the V3. I'd be willing to bet this is a great little amp, I just wish it had HDMI input.
The next generation of decoders and decoders + amplifiers will add more elements and other additions
How much power is this? 300 watts max? What does it do 20 to 20k, rms with what distortion?
See the TI TPA3255 datasheet for all the answers. Consider using 48V 12.5A trimmable power supply to get the voltage into the promised land.
Thanks Randy! Love everything about it, just wish hdmi would’ve been standard by now, or at least an option, still pretty cool tho…
Great looking product
On sale right now $229 plus 10 percent off.
Thanks for the heads up.
My friend keeps blowing the fuse on his old maggies. He says because the amp has too much power. You can hear the distortion when he cranks it. I told him that the fuse was blowing because of clipping. He doesn't believe me and boy does the Aiyima get hot.
Reading that actually made me physically cringe. That's just...AWFUL.
Oh my. This made my internals burn.
The lack of sub out is a deal breaker for me, I was really interested in this as an upgrade from the Loxjie a30.
Does your sub not have a low pass filter...?
Thank you for the introduction of A80. Do you think that A80 is more valuable than AIYIMA D03? I'm seriously considering buy A80. (I have D03 and had used it for 2 years.)
You had me until the no sub out. I'm looking for something like my old Tascam 20W amp for my home studio only WITH a sub out. I've got my sub jury-rigged but I don't know if it's going to blow something out some day.
I'd love to see a comparison between this and the SMSL RAW-HA1
Looks ideal for a desktop near-field experience. Would work well with budget Elacs or Sonys and my new M4 Mac Mini as the input source. I'm thinkin'.........
With USB-C chargers prices going down I wish these used this for a power input vs barrel connectors power supplies. Companies should seriously consider this as an option to power devices in general (not just phones, tablets, laptops, all-in-ones... but amps would be nice).
Insufficient voltage from USB.
I screwed up my ear drums. Got new gear…Leaning over to plug it in…ear next to speaker…didn’t check the on/off or volume…well, plugged it in and immediately knew my ear drums were toast. I’m on week 2 and still very painful. Doctor said drums were torn and about 6 weeks to heal. Gave me antibiotics for 2 weeks. Be careful you crazy audio freaks!

Randy, can't you use the AUX out to connect to a powered subwoofer?
I love my WiiM ultra's screen for only this reason, the VU meter mode.
so why there is non in mine?
@@trueretyper Its gotta be there, get on the latest version and play with the display.
Can this be used as a DAC between my music source and mcintosh integrated Amp?
Bit confused as the Aiyma website shows the unit offering an Aux out for a Sub which is different to your review.
Can I use this as a phono pre amp for my turntable or not? Have a good one! 😊
the problem with those amps is they produce a lot of noise because the switching power supply also blocks radio signals on Shortwave and medium wave
Where can I find this in the USA?
What do you think about the Wiim Ultra and one of these? Just bought the Wiim Ultra and I am about to sell off my AV-receivers. =) Update. You just answered my question last in your video. Thanks. =)
Thanks Randy!

Apparently, it’s already flown. The A80 doesn’t show up on Amazon anyway.
Does the "Aux Out" reproduce full range audio or low frequency audio?
Full range. It's a preamp output. Aiyima has a block diagram on their website.
I think it is time forAiyima to jump on the ARC bandwagon!
Ok im a noob, i listen to music via headphones or Bluetooth speakers or soundbars, please tell me where this fits in or why i need one?
Toss your BT speakers. This unit will drive many quality passive speakers.
I bought AIYIMA T9 today start down the rabbit holes of audiophile stuff wondering if i need dac and streamer to play my Amazon Music
Aux out is controlled by the volume control ... us it for sub out.
Can I connect my 1TB external hard drive with 1000 CDs as WAV files and have it index and play them?
The rear panel diagram lists the AUX output as a possible Subwoofer output.
That's my question.
@@pickyaudiophile Yeah but the small speakers are getting all the low bass (not cut off). Found out the hard way with a pair of small JBL's. Woofers got rattily and had to be replaced.

As soon as I heard Texas Instruments I was interested.
About the Loop... how is it at a concert? I used to have some by Senner. They weren't exactly linear but worked fine. When I lost them I bought some by Ropone. Yeah, no. Bass makes them bottom out, which are obviously sounds bad and is rather counterproductive. How about the Loop?

Does it have High Pass Filter, cutting frequencies below ca 100hz for small speakers?
Great video! Where can I find that McIntosh t-shirt? 😊
Would make a great zoning amp for an AV reciever
Most subs have line input with Low pass filter, thus this could still play a part...
Not sure why I watched the whole video bc I have no idea what this is or why it would be helpful to me in any way..LOL Can this make my Edifier M4's sound "better" or louder or something with out blowing them out? Or what the heck is this for? I am trying to look for some kind of subwoofer to connect to my M4's bc it apparently can be done but have no idea which ones or even how to do it .
on amazon in the photos it shows an "Aux" output with small pics that say "Amp + passive speakers", and next pic says "Active Sub", does anyone know if you can play the sub and the normal speakers at the same time, or not, because its a dedicated Aux Channel

I was where you're at about 5 months ago. I kept trying to make them sound "right" and they just never did. They don't sound bad, really, but they just don't sound natural to me. One happy outcome was that I ended up with a glorious Cyan 2 dac in my quest to "fix" the amp(s) - it was a huge improvement but still not quite on.
